An oasis away from home, Zen and relaxation was the theme we were going for with this guest bedroom. My clients wanted the guest room to have a hotel feel. This bedroom was a blank slate of unfinished walls revealing the studs, floors and open ceiling in my client’s basement. A monochromatic color story, neutral palette, harmonious and tranquil theme flows throughout the space.
Using varying tints and shades of gray to achieve dimension was the foundation for designing this guest room. Creating a room that was not only a place to sleep but also functioned for multiple purposes was something my clients and I discussed during the consultation. It was imperative that we design a space for sleeping, lounging, watching television, reading, writing, and computer browsing. Because the space was not defined when we started we had to redefine the room—closing the walls, ceiling and floors. Creating a floor plan, ceiling treatment, furniture plan and layout was our mission the rest came together seamlessly.
My clients were not only happy with their new guest room but also enjoyed the experience. Now they have a place to entertain their guest overnight in comfort.

This stone out building was once a barn on my client's property. A dream come true, the space was converted to be a writing office for my client who has published and continues to follow her dreams of writing fiction. This home office doubles as sleeping guest quarters with a sleeping loft and full bath. The space is entirely the wife's in this home.

The Trenton Room was the smallest of the three bedrooms. In order to have both a writing desk, and a chair suitable for reading, a reproduction secretary desk was used in the space, allowing for more room next to it for the chair, which can be used for reading, or pulled up to the secretary desk as needed. Each desk has a writing pad, a guest book about the space, and with helpful guest information. On top of this desk is another New Jersey soldier. The New Jersey Blues ( the 3rd New Jersey) wore a distinctive blue uniform coat with red facings. This inspired the red banding on the window treatment. Nailhead trim on the chair adds a handsome bit of elegance to the space. Bob Narod, Photographer. Design by Linda H. Bassert, Masterworks Window Fashions & Design, LLC.

Vintage mahogany English writing desk with gold accents stands against pure white walls. The gilded frames of the art work balances with the gold accents of the desk. The bench provides a great place for writing and reflection. Polished black granite floors reflect the drama of the space. Vintage Chinese planters are on either side of the desk.

The perfect place to write the next great American novel! Although we couldn't paint the trim in this space or change out the blinds, the overall effect of the beautiful iridescent Hartmann & Forbes grasscloth, linens, and lighter furniture finishes minimizes the effect of all the wood trim and creates a truly beautiful coastal sitting room.

Soft neutrals throughout this room blend seamlessly with the intensity of fuchsia and pink hues, and the faux bois writing desk adds sophisticated whimsy.

The interior design - is not easy thing. Let us take one of the key, the key secret of building interior composition - the harmonious arrangement of the living space, where everything interacts: furniture, crockery, plants, decorative fabrics and so on.
All things that are selected and by which life is organized, have some sort of form. For example, the cabinet can be quite simple, in the form of a cube or a prism. Snack bar, usually consists of several parts: top, bottom, interconnecting elements (drawers, doors – this form is much more complicated. Because the buffet, as well as a bedside table, consists of two simple parts, is also similar to the prism. Two different object, but the same shape, made of the same material, the same decoration can be described as the objects of the same type. They go well together, they share a common line. Therefore, in the selection of items it is very important to determine the main form and line, the contours of objects. It is necessary to look in a furniture (bedroom or dining room), and many things will become clear. They have a common shape, they are of the same material: design of furniture is well and carefully considered. Now you have to choose the other items. Here, first should pay attention to line and shape, decor, whether there are panels, inlays, whether the object is decorated with carved or painted. Very often objects may be the same shape, but very differently decorated, whereby they are not combined with each other. You can adhere to the following principles.
First option is to select all items of one and the same form with the same decoration, the same color of the same material (set). Second variant is to buy objects of the same shape but of different materials. It should focus on the items of the same decor, not to get involved in a variety of materials. For example, it will be wooden and wicker furniture, ceramic vases and lamps. Third option assumes the preferring objects of different shapes, but the same material. For example, a sofa and armchairs round, coffee table and TV stand - rectangular, lamps and floor vase - a complex shape with a wavy contour, and the material is the same everywhere - wood and glass. The fourth option is to undertake various forms of objects made of different materials - a combination difficult, but possible (it depends on the development of your taste).
The main thing in all tips is to adhere to the magic number 3. It means to keep in mind that the room is acceptable not more than three kinds of shapes of objects, such as rectangle, oval, cone. In addition, no more than three decorative materials: ceramic, plaster, marble or wood, leather, brass and so on.
