The Treehouse is the home I share with my daughter Miss Noa. It is our sanctuary and our refuge, our playhouse and our house of rest. It is carved out of the roof of a 100 year old craftsman home, so the spaces are all unique, and intimate, which I love. The colors I chose for the space are all slightly weathered as though they spent years in the sun. The vibe is bohemian, with all sorts of collected (Faith) and created (Noa) art. I have a passion for small spaces- they are just fun and playful, so to accentuate the element of play in the space we painted the ceiling with circus tent stripes in muted tones and turned my bedroom into a bedouin tent! Every inch was considered to maximize play, storage and comfort while maintaining a clean aesthetic that can evolve with its young owner. The custom built-in bed forms the centerpiece of the room, integrating sleeping, climbing, lounging and storage into one cohesive structure. Inspired by a treehouse or indoor fort, an elevated rope hammock creates a playful destination for reading, relaxing and imaginative adventures. Integrated climbing bars and bold red accents bring energy to the warm natural palette, while custom birch millwork provides extensive storage for books, toys and collections. Deep drawers beneath the bed platform maximize otherwise unused space without adding visual clutter. A built-in desk and shelving near the window provide a dedicated place for homework, reading and creative projects while preserving natural light and outdoor views. The resulting bedroom balances playful features with clean lines, warm wood and thoughtful organization—creating a space designed for both the child he is today and the young person he will become.

THEME Inspired by the Magic Tree House series of children’s books, this indoor tree house provides entertainment, fun and a place for children to read about or imagine adventures through time. A blue sky, green meadows, and distant matching beech trees recreate the magic of Jack and Annie’s Frog Creek, and help bring the characters from the series to life. FOCUS A floor armoire, ceiling swing and climbing rope give the structure a true tree house look and feel. A drop-down drawing and writing table, wheeled work table and recessed ceiling lights ensure the room can be used for more than play. The tree house has electric interior lighting, a window to the outdoors and a playful sliding shutter over a window to the room. The armoire forms a raised, nine-foot-wide play area, while a TV within one of the wall’s floor-to-ceiling cabinets — with a delightful sliding ladder — transforms the room into a family theater perfect for watching movies and holding Wii competitions. STORAGE The bottom of the drawing table is a magnetic chalk board that doubles as a display for children’s art works. The tree’s small niches are for parents’ shoes; the larger compartment stores children’s shoes and school bags. Books, games, toys, DVDs, Wii and other computer accessories are stored in the wall cabinets. The armoire contains two spacious drawers and four nifty hinged storage bins. A rack of handy “vegetable buckets” above the armoire stores crayons, scissors and other useful items.
