Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!

Inspiration for a transitional kitchen remodel in Boston

This green kitchen remodel makes efficient use of a small space and features reused bamboo flooring that was taken out of another home. Idaho Granite Works produced countertops from boulders that came from a quarry a few miles away. Quatersawn white oak cabinets with shaker style doors and pewter knobs were custom built by Mike Anderson and assembled in place. All cabinets have Blum soft close hinges and guides. Dual spice rack pullouts flank the range hood, and several lower cabinets have pull out bins to maximize storage. Rounded corner shelves create a smooth transition from the reed glass door corner upper cabinet to a large opening that looks over the family room below. A toe kick heater is barely visible lower left. Notice beveled toe kick on either side of range, a great feature that makes sweeping under cabinets easy and eliminates dusty inside corners. A simple custom cornice trims the upper cabinets to the clean, flat white ceiling (formerly heavy popcorn texture)

KITCHEN: This open floor plan kitchen is a mix of materials in a modern industrial style. The back L portion is black painted wood veneer with dark stainless steel bridge handles with matching dark stainless countertop and toe kick. The island is a natural ruxe wood veneer with dark stainless steel integrated handles with matching toe kick. The counter top on the island is a honed black quartz. Integrated Miele refrigerator/freezer and built in coffee maker. Maximizing the functionality of this space, and coordinating the new kitchen with the beautiful remodel completed previously by the client were the two most important aspects of this project. The existing spaces are elegantly decorated with an open plan, dark hardwood floors, and natural stone accents. The new, lighter, more open kitchen flows beautifully into the client’s existing dining room space. Satin nickel hardware blends with the stainless steel appliances and matches the satin nickel details throughout the home. The fully integrated refrigerator next to the narrow pull-out pantry cabinet, take up less visual weight than a traditional stainless steel appliance and the two combine to provide fantastic storage. The glass cabinet doors and decorative lighting beautifully highlight the client’s glassware and dishes. This Master Bath is knotty alder wood. The door style has bead board in the panel. The homeowner wanted a furniture look, so we added legs and pushed the toe kick back under the vanity. The contractor added toe kick lighting.

This spacious kitchen in Westchester County is flooded with light from huge windows on 3 sides of the kitchen plus two skylights in the vaulted ceiling. The dated kitchen was gutted and reconfigured to accommodate this large kitchen with crisp white cabinets and walls. Ship lap paneling on both walls and ceiling lends a casual-modern charm while stainless steel toe kicks, walnut accents and Pietra Cardosa limestone bring both cool and warm tones to this clean aesthetic.
