Completed in 2015, this project incorporates a Scandinavian vibe to enhance the modern architecture and farmhouse details. The vision was to create a balanced and consistent design to reflect clean lines and subtle rustic details, which creates a calm sanctuary. The whole home is not based on a design aesthetic, but rather how someone wants to feel in a space, specifically the feeling of being cozy, calm, and clean. This home is an interpretation of modern design without focusing on one specific genre; it boasts a midcentury master bedroom, stark and minimal bathrooms, an office that doubles as a music den, and modern open concept on the first floor. It’s the winner of the 2017 design award from the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and has been on the Tribeza Home Tour; in addition to being published in numerous magazines such as on the cover of Austin Home as well as Dwell Magazine, the cover of Seasonal Living Magazine, Tribeza, Rue Daily, HGTV, Hunker Home, and other international publications. Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary medium tone wood floor kids' room remodel in New York with gray walls

I was hired by the parents of a soon-to-be teenage girl turning 13 years-old. They wanted to remodel her bedroom from a young girls room to a teenage room. This project was a joy and a dream to work on! I got the opportunity to channel my inner child. I wanted to design a space that she would love to sleep in, entertain, hangout, do homework, and lounge in. The first step was to interview her so that she would feel like she was a part of the process and the decision making. I asked her what was her favorite color, what was her favorite print, her favorite hobbies, if there was anything in her room she wanted to keep, and her style. The second step was to go shopping with her and once that process started she was thrilled. One of the challenges for me was making sure I was able to give her everything she wanted. The other challenge was incorporating her favorite pattern-- zebra print. I decided to bring it into the room in small accent pieces where it was previously the dominant pattern throughout her room. The color palette went from light pink to her favorite color teal with pops of fuchsia. I wanted to make the ceiling a part of the design so I painted it a deep teal and added a beautiful teal glass and crystal chandelier to highlight it. This stylish home office seamlessly transforms into a cozy guest bedroom with the help of a stunning built-in Murphy bed unit. The sleek design features integrated storage and overhead lighting, adding both function and elegance to the space. A patterned area rug grounds the room, while natural light and a touch of greenery enhance its modern, serene aesthetic. Perfect for maximizing space without compromising style or comfort!

A zoomed-in view of a bedroom highlights thoughtful layering of textures and color. A walnut wood headboard anchors the space, complemented by a white nightstand and an abstract blue-and-gold watercolor artwork above. I worked with Christen Ales Interiors to style this 1200 sq. ft. home that the client rents out on Airbnb. The goal was to add art, accessories, and decor to the home to give it a local Austin flair, while at the same time creating a warm space to enjoy.
