After five years of drought and a devastating wildfire, our yard in rural Healdsburg was brown and sad. We asked Village Landscape Architecture to design a new plan that used our existing hardscape, rather than come up with a totally new footprint. Alan Villamaire accepted the challenge. He listened carefully to our preferences, learning from us the plants we did not like and suggesting others we might prefer. From the beginning, we felt a part of the design process. We found him easy to work with, flexible, and always on time. As a result, we have an imaginative, totally unique area which is serene, beautiful, and drought-tolerant.

The entry courtyard seat wall, benches, fountain and trellis create such a nicely defined area where there was previously unused driveway area. I'm looking forward to wrapping up designs for the ADU landscape, tennis court and orchard path destination areas out at the far ends of the property.

Alan Villamaire designed the first phase of our fire rebuild landscaping. He listened well, incorporating our ideas and proposing his own and addressed our timeline. His landscape plan covered the important areas of layout, grading, planting, irrigation and lighting. He has good knowledge of Sonoma County low-water plants suggesting both the beautiful stalwarts and options we hadn't considered. When the inevitable minor project hiccups occurred during installation, Alan was quick to provide solutions and/or alternatives. The thought and care Alan invested in our plan not only look good, they complement our site and home beautifully.

I'm quite happy with the different "rooms" we had incorporated into a yard, that isn't overly large, while keeping the feeling of space and privacy. I'm also pleased that the finishes came out so well. The new portion of decking is seamless with the original, and the poured in place concrete pavers look so inviting as an extension of your living room.

Working with Alan is an absolute pleasure! He is a knowledgeable, talented designer who is kind and patient. Alan designed the front and back yard for our fire rebuild in Coffey Park. As you can imagine the rebuild process was a difficult, emotional one for us. Alan took this in stride, working well with our builder and creating beautiful landscapes that would work within our budget. I am an avid gardener and my husband is a designer, so we came into the project with strong opinions. Alan listened to all of them and built upon them in wonderful ways that we never could have anticipated – considering not only the outside but also each view from the inside. We are now beginning to build our landscapes and with each step in fulfilling Alan’s plan I find myself happier and more at home in our rebuilt house. This would not have been possible without Alan’s guidance and hard work.

We worked with Alan (Village Landscape Architecture) to help us with a large corner lot front yard after removing all of our lawn. We wanted drought tolerant plantings that would be a benefit to wildlife, but didn't know where to start. We asked Alan to deliver a plan, in the form of drawings, that we could implement ourselves. Alan was easy to communicate with and listened carefully to our parameters. Beyond recommending the placement and varieties of plants, Alan drew a plan that also incorporated an inviting addition to our walkway entrance. We loved his creative additions of hardscape which tied back to our love of Mother Nature's natural landscape. We still love the design today - 4 years later. Alan was easy to work with, a good listener, and provided the deliverable on time. I highly recommend him.
