If I could choose zero stars I would. This is by far been the most horrific experience I have ever had with a professional company. Last June our home was devastated by a tornado and we have spent the past 11 month rebuilding it. The final step was to refinish our oak hardwood floors, and we chose Artisan, (the most expensive bid by far) from what we thought was one of the best companies in Austin, I really wanted the floors to be stunning. When I walked in and saw the finished result I was terribly disappointed, the floors looked dull and dirty and the area that had warped due to water damage that they had replaced and patched did not match the other wood, it is very noticeable. Additionally they neglected to repair three other damaged boards in other areas. When we contacted the owner David he drove out to our house and glued a mismatched board over the cracked board by the front door and when de did so he dribbled gobs of glue next to the front door that he neglected to clean up, and the board he put there is now coming undone. When we contacted David again he stated that he could do nothing else and that he had completed his work and he wasn't going to do anymore. After I insisted and reminded him that he had assured me before he began the work that he was willing to come in afterwards if I was unhappy with the finish and add more shine to the floors since I had told him all along I did not want dull floors. David had also told us from the beginning that our floors had a very high moisture content, and that as a result they needed to place in dehumidifiers that were very expensive and that we could not use a polyurethane finish. He said that we could not use polyurethane on the floors (which was in place for 30 years with no problem) and that his ugly oil finish was our only option and that it was very very low maintenance. We have contacted 3 other reputable professionals and they looked at the work and they all said that he had misled us and that we could in fact use polyurethane, and that he had used the wrong type of wood to patch the floors. Not only that, but the oil finish is very high maintenance, you have to remove all the furniture and reapply two coats every six months (David neglected to tell me that when I asked him about maintenance), which is very troublesome as we have large, heavy furniture pieces that are going in the space. When my husband relayed our newly acquired knowledge to David, he still refused to do anything and got very angry and began yelling, he threatened us and sent my husband text messages demanding the remaining balance be paid within 4 days as we (luckily) have only paid half of the estimated cost, otherwise he would turn us over to a collection agency. Meanwhile we have to hire and pay another company to refinish the floors properly in a very rushed manner. complete. total. nightmare. My honest opinion is that David was looking for a quick job and made up the story about the polyurethane and insisted on the oil finish as it is much less time consuming to apply, our home is 30 miles outside of Austin, poly would require more time and trips, I truly think he made this whole ridiculous story up to make things easier for himself.
