Re-landscaping our backyard was long overdue. We had many heritage plants -- fruit trees, berry bushes & perennials -- we wanted to keep & incorporate in our new scheme. Bonnie and her team helped move and replant them, while also adding some lovely new additions -- mostly low water, pollinator friendly, and native plants. Her subcontractors did a wonderful job -- very pleasant and professional. It was also fun to get her help selecting boulders at the materials supply yard. And though we had to learn the hard way with her about setbacks and city permits for positioning the new shed, she was very gracious & helpful in getting all that resolved. The transformation of our backyard has been amazing; we are thrilled with the results. We added three planter beds, a shed, a beautiful new travertine patio + pergola, and stone paver pathways that wind around a Verde Buffalo grass lawn. There are multiple places to sit and view the yard, trees and plants; it all provides a peaceful, restful and attractive retreat to relax, work, entertain and enjoy. We are very happy with the completely redone front/back yard that Bonnie and her team created for us. We love the contemporary natural aesthetic. While planning our house remodel, we started working with Bonnie She stuck with us and adapted the yard plans as the house plans shifted. It's great that Bonnie and team were able to reuse a number of trees and plants (relocating some). Much of the planting happened during some hot early summer days, and, not surprisingly, not all plants survived. But Bonnie was supportive in replacing plants as needed. We are loving living in our new outdoor space - gardening, bird/monarch butterfly watching, and enjoying the fruits (and veggies) of our collective labor!

We hired Bonnie Brock in the spring of 2024 to completely redo our Palo Alto, Calif., yard, and we couldn't be more pleased with the experience and the results. Bonnie started by meeting with us to look at our yard, listen to what we were hoping to achieve, ask insightful questions, tell us about how she worked, and ask us about our budget. She came back with a preliminary plan that was very close to what we ended up doing. It incorporated our ideas, but just as important, included ideas she had that we had never thought of (for example doubling the size of the concrete/brick raised patio that comes off of the rear of our house, something we didn't think could even be done.) She gave us a timeline and an estimated budget, both of which were within the parameters we had set. She drew up the plans and put it out to bid to the hard scape and soft scape contractors she works closely with, and the bids came back right where she said they would. It was a large project (path and tree lighting, full irrigation, new driveway, large brick side patio, gravel seating area, small shed, grass in front and rear, flagstone walkways, and plantings). The contractors we hired did excellent work and stayed on budget and on schedule. They were both very attentive to Bonnie and our needs. Bonnie provided overall supervision during the entire process. We now have a terrific new outdoor living area that I am sure we will treasure for many years. I couldn't recommend Bonnie and the contractors she works with more highly.

We got introduced to Bonnie from a recommendation from our next door neighbors who also had their yard transformed by Bonnie. From the get-go, we had a sense that Bonnie had the expertise and sensibility that was going to serve us very well. As a couple, we had put off the work of designing and working on our outdoor spaces for over a year as we had distinct and seemingly incompatible ideas for what we wanted to accomplish with our space. Given our visions were not aligned, we didn't see how someone could come up with a plan that would satisfy all of what we were looking for when we ourselves didn't have the foggiest idea of what that would look like. Bonnie navigated all of our differing ideas and concepts and artfully came up with a design that not only met what we were looking for - it exceeded what we had in mind. She took all of our input and desires and processed them through decades of experience of what works and what doesn't. Ultimately, the output not only met what we wanted, but Bonnie was able to elevate them beyond our simple concepts to a unified design that made sense and worked. She navigated us through the design, the actual build, and beyond into the ongoing maintenance of our space. Highest recommendation for Bonnie and all the teams she works with - we've been so happy with the quality of the work and the care placed into every detail. Also found that we were never surprised with additional costs - Bonnie always communicated very well for all the potential impact of every change that we proposed. One piece of advice to anyone that doesn't have experience with this kind of work - plan on things taking longer than you expected, and potentially more expensive than you had in mind. Both were true for us. But as we look back on our project - the only regret I have is that we didn't do this sooner. The outdoor space that Bonnie has designed for us effectively increases our usable living area and we are using it on a daily basis.

We interviewed several designers before deciding on Bonnie. She turned out to be the perfect match for us. She listened to what we wanted but also offered her own suggestions. She is also very reliable and responsive. The result for us was a beautiful landscape in our front and rear yards. The biggest challenges in this project were designing patios that would allow us to take advantage of the sunlight throughout the year as well as to accommodate and set-off our two large heritage oaks, one in the front yard and one in the rear, with appropriate plantings. Bonnie was able to come up with a creative plan that met both these challenges and we are enjoying the patios and the plantings that she installed. Every season has brought pleasant surprises and we are waiting now to see what the winter will bring.

Bonnie Brock designed and installed my new garden last summer. Without exaggeration I have enjoyed my new garden every single day since then. Bonnie is skilled at gathering the information she needs in order to create a garden just for you. She is a patient, intuitive listener. She is highly knowledgeable about all aspects of landscaping so she is able to give important guidance and give good advice when requested, always tactfully. Bonnie came up with beautiful and creative solutions to my individual site and wishes. Bonnie and her contractors are personable and reliable – and just really fun to work with. Bonnie is an amazing designer and a consummate professional. She listens to your interests and adapts accordingly but will also step in if she thinks you are making problematic design choices. She has a great vision and really pays attention to the materials chosen. She does not cut corners and invests in high-quality materials and work, but also offers lower-cost alternative ideas where possible. Bonnie completely converted my grass front yard on a corner lot with a slight slope, to interesting trees and plants with low watering needs - and a hardscape walkaway to give our home curb appeal. Probably what I appreciate most about the work she did is: 1) The end product / front yard looks beautiful, with a complementary color palate, which has wonderful surprises in each season. 2) She has a great relationship with her contractors but also has high standards and makes sure any mistakes are corrected - she is a perfectionist! 3) She is into conservation and works that into her designs, materials, and equipment. Highly recommend Bonnie!!

Bonnie was a joy to work with. She brought fresh ideas to our backyard landscaping project, while working to preserve or reuse elements already in place. She was extremely adaptable and an excellent listener, who helped us formulate a vision of what the yard could be and then turn it into reality. The sub-contractors she employed were all excellent and we've retained the gardening crew to maintain the work they installed. Bonnie is also budget conscious and looked for ways to keep our costs down without compromising on aesthetics. Whenever we made changes or asked for alternatives, Bonnie always obliged with a positive attitude that made us feel she was a true partner in the project. I'd give Bonnie my highest recommendation.

Bonnie is a talented designer with exceptional ideas and customer service. We wanted to upgrade both our front and back yards, and gave her high-level goals of having a landscape that was low maintenance, low water usage, and colorful all year around. She more than exceeded our expectations with her designs and ideas. We were thrilled that she had contractors that she regularly works with; she handled all the quotes and interface with the customers. A little more than a year ago we asked Bonnie Brock to redesign our plants and hardscape. We are extremely pleased with the result. Specifically we asked her to design and install a new landscape that was visually attractive, compatible with our mid-century modern house, required little maintenance, need minimal irrigation, and that produces little or no runoff. Bonnie took our front yard down to dirt (other than a few large trees) and started over, creating a masterpiece. We get many compliments on the result, including from complete strangers as they walk by our house.
