Comfort Architecture

On the sage advice of our contractor, we hired Randall Comfort to design the renovation to our Master Bedroom/Bath and the guest hallway bath. Prior to accepting the final design, we had originally thought we could expand one of the walls out into our backyard. With Randall's input, we realized that would be a big error which, also, would greatly increase the cost as well as create a big hardship for our neighbors. Randall worked very closely with our contractor to determine the best way to achieve our renovation. His precision and attention to every architectural detail was first rate. Additionally, Randall's wife Linda is a color expert and also worked with us and team to accomplish a very beautiful palette of colors we would not have looked at nor considered (we've always gone to beige and cream). As a team, they are very forward thinking but also considerate of our wishes for the outcome. Our project started and finished on time per their contract; billing was done in very timely fashion. Randall Comfort designed an approximate 500 square foot second-story addition for our home. We added two bedrooms and converted an existing bedroom into a bathroom. We were initially presented with three distinct interior/exterior options and Randall worked with us to combine different elements that we liked best into the final design. We could not be happier with how the project turned out. Randall utilized every inch of space and gave us a ton of additional storage. He came up with a very creative solution to use dead space and open it up to the kitchen below. Besides how well the interior works for our family (three young children) a big concern with additions is making them not look like additions at all, but like they are part of the original structure. Randall absolutely accomplished this and if you didn't know what our home looked like before you could not tell that we had built this addition. Randall also added tremendous value in referring us to a fantastic general contractor with whom he has an excellent working relationship. This made things go smoothly once construction began. We would not hesitate to recommend or use Randall Comfort again. He is a friendly, creative, patient person. *Total project cost below is for the entire project, not just Randall's cost.

Randy has the ability to design tastefully free of clutter and 'foo foo'. He's gifted at adapting to time periods and style to the modifications.

Randall with Comfort Architecture made creating plans to reimagine our 120+ year old brick home a pleasant experience. He was professional and on time for each meeting, with enthusiasm that put us at ease as we explored ideas for our home. Randall created existing conditions documents and architectural renderings for the project, including both a base level and more ambitious option for the changes. These renderings capture our love for usable space, natural lighting, and outside accessibility. The views of the plans Randall created are 3D renderings of the interior and exterior from any angle imaginable. As we've begun meeting with contractors, Randall's work has clearly conveyed our vision and goals.

My company helped Comfort Architecture put together their website and during the process my wife happened to see their work. She exclaimed that she LOVED it and wanted to invite their firm to do some drawings on our house. Specifically she wanted to know if he could fix the problems we had in our kitchen. Their principal architect Randall was willing to set up a meeting on our schedule (he came to our house at 8 p.m. after dinner so we could relax a bit after work). He sat with us and asked a lot of questions- we ended up telling him all about how we cook, and how much time we spend in the kitchen- what we liked and what we didn't like. He even had us wash some dishes and cut up some carrots so he could actually see us in the space. He took photos and did some measurements and before I had even finished my beer he said he had what he needed. When he came back a week later to show us what he had put together he gave us two different sets of drawings- one met all of the parameters of the project we gave him. They were really great ideas and we would have been delighted with what he gave us until he mentioned that just for fun he had taken some liberties. He put forward an idea that still to this day boggles my imagination. I had never considered converting the dining room into a kitchen with an island, and he made it so we could have a half bath (we didn't even tell him we wanted that, it was just some minor fact that had dribbled out in conversation- but not something we requested.) His design was beautiful and on more than one occasion I have pulled it out to show friends because it is so brilliant. We bought the project from Comfort Architecture and are now saving money to implement changes to our home that I would never have dreamed of- I am highly satisfied with this company- they were wonderful to work with and their design is nothing short of genius.

I have worked with Architect Randall Comfort for over twenty years now. Since the summer of 1993 my company has completed numerous construction projects that were designed by Randall and each experience was nothing less than professional. Randall possesses a unique creative talent that I find rare in this cookie cutter age of design and construction. I have worked with other design firms and found that they often fall short when it comes to creativity. Not only has my company worked directly for Randall's clients but I have also employed Comfort Architecture in a design-build capacity on many occasions. Randall always provides very detailed complete sets of working drawings that make my job as a contractor easier. Many of the local muni- cipalities I work in recognize the quality of his work and the permitting process is often expedited. One last note regarding Randall's services. His customers and my company have used and bene- fited from incorporating a schematic design phase into the project. A qualified contractor can often provide preliminary pricing to help create a sound budget before the construction drawing process begins.
