As one of twenty eight award winning projects from a record 294 entries in The Renaissance Awards Program, sponsored by Remodeling Magazine and The National Association of Home Builders, Spiral Rail was published in Remodeling Magazine, with a caption that read:

So... what does this do?” First, it does its basic job of keeping people from falling into the stairwell. But beyond that, it stops people in their tracks and makes them notice, and wonder. It’s art, and it’s craft, and it’s wonderful. The designer says he was inspired by the treble clef, the French horn, a roller coaster, fireworks, a Slinky® toy and a corkscrew. Boinggggggg.
