Introspecs

Introspecs was referred to us by our architect Marty Buckenmeyer for help on a major remodel to our 1926 home. We finished our basement and gutted our top floor to add a master suite and extra bathroom for our children. This project was to huge for us to handle on our own, Allisen was super easy to work with and very organized and communicated well with us throughout this entire project! She helped us blend the existing main floor with the new additions keeping it clean and simple. By suggesting painting our kitchen cabinets and changing out fixtures, our main level looks brand new as well, making it seem like we have a brand new house! Allisen and Virginia have great attention to detail and we will continue to use them in the future, as we have a few more projects to complete. We look forward to working with them again!

We had lived in our home for 8 years when we were at a crossroads: make our home work for our family of five or move to a new home. We love our neighborhood and seized this opportunity to make our home a better fit for us. My husband and I hired Allisen and Introspecs in the process of working with Olson & Jones to remodel our kitchen. Having never worked with a designer before (or done any kind of renovation), we didn't know what to expect, but now our standards are set very high because of our experience with Allisen and Virginia. They created a just-right, workable re-design of our small-footprint kitchen, one that feels now 6 months after full project completion like it's always been this way. Allisen was masterful and kind as she talked us through the process, answered to our satisfaction each and everyone of our questions about the contract and budget, which was not exceeded at any time, and made meetings both pleasant and productive. Virginia was also a joy -- especially in her sense of color and spirit. She helped me imagine how one of the tile options -- one that I was drawn to but a little out of my comfort zone but wanted very much to use -- could work in a interesting and gently vibrant way without being overly dramatic. Overall, my new kitchen is light, bright, calm and very functional. Every morning, I smile when I enter it. Without hesitation, we would work again with Allisen and Virginia and recommend them to others. They are polished professionals, good listeners who are also willing to explain their recommendations and adapt to our needs, experienced pros focused on both the big picture and important details/deadlines, and just good people!

Introspecs got involved at the beginning of this complex remodel of our 1965 ranch home. They started with lighting and electrical diagrams, designed the kitchen helped us find new furniture and flooring then in the end art placement. Basically, Introspecs did the entire interior design - start to finish. From the start they were well organized, understood how to use technology and have outstanding communication. You need all three to get through a project of this size! In particular - Allisen's positive, uplifting and prompt communication style was a big help when things got stressful.

We really loved working with Allisen and the Introspecs team and plan to continue working with them on any future projects. We did a kitchen/bathroom/closet remodel and addition. It was a big job so it was important to get the right fit. Our contractor referred me to Allisen and I immediately loved her portfolio. Allisen came up with beautiful designs that met with our esthetic as well as working with the overall look and feel of our 1929 Tudor Style House. Her style is fresh. She puts a lot of thought into functionality of a room as well (cabinets, drawers, layout). What I really appreciated about Allisen was her decisiveness and confidence. Working with Allisen to design our kitchen remodel was truly a pleasure! Our 100-year old home is full of many period details (built in cabinets and woodwork) which we knew we’d be keeping. But we also knew that we wanted a kitchen with a contemporary look and feel. Allisen and her team were perfect for this project. Deeply knowledgeable and excellent listeners, they have a terrific sense for space and how to create livable designs. And they were easy and fun to communicate with at every step of the way. Introspecs helped us create a beautiful design: some bold tile on the floor, cast concrete countertops, simple plywood cabinets, and clean and functional lighting. The process felt unrushed (there was plenty of time for ideas to percolate) but at the same time it felt like we were always moving forward. We hired Allisen and her team member, Erik, to design the interior of our 800 square foot ADU. We are a retired couple who are going modern as we enter this new phase of our lives. Allisen has been great to work with and has been a consistent and enthusiastic communicator. She and Erik have been sensitive to our opinions about the belongings we want to include in our new space, but they have also encouraged us to stretch our minds to incorporate more cutting edge ideas into our interior.....without pushing us. My partner and I have had a superb experience working with Allisen, Erik and Scott from Introspecs. I initially hired them because I was really drawn to their design aesthetic, but in addition this has been such a supportive relationship, and one of the most positive aspects of an otherwise stressful process of remodeling a house and business. As a designer and owner of a remodeling firm I collaborate with Allisen on various projects. On our most recent collaboration we met with the clients and discussed some challenging issues with furniture placement their fireplace and the windows. We had the basic concept down, but needed some outside input to help us finalize what we wanted to accomplish. She brought some original ideas and helped us solve the last design challenges to help us keep the project moving. Introspecs designed our kitchen and a multi-use room (laundry, office) and we are currently finishing the last details of the remodel. We are very pleased with the functional design, aesthetics and Allisen’s recommendations for materials. Through the process, Allisen was flexible and made needed adjustments or changes upon learning our needs and how our family functions. We would hire her again, and recommend her wholeheartedly. We recently worked with Allisen from Introspecs to design a new kitchen for our midcentury forest dwelling. The existing kitchen was the original from the 40s and was barely serviceable. The strange, L-shaped kitchen provided few opportunities for new, modern appliances and kitchen layouts. The design task was daunting so we reached out to Introspecs for a design quote. From the very beginning, Allisen dove right in and offered valuable insights and saw exactly how to solve the problem. She even offered several layout configurations but ultimately showed us the wisdom of the one we ended up selecting. Her deep knowledge of midcentury was extremely helpful in shaping the overall vision and keeping it authentic to the period while still affording those modern ammenities. Allisen's design work and drawings were thorough and clearly laid out a plan for the execution of this project. She provided dimensions and all the views needed to capture the space. There was nothing missing. Overall, I was impressed with Allisen's ability to truly listen to us and understand our vision while adding insight from her own experience.

We hired Allisen to help us generate ideas/select materials for our kitchen update/remodel in our NE Portland 1910 home. She was very fun and professional to work with. She was quick to respond to emails/phone calls and made us feel like our project was her number one priority. We could not be more pleased with the interior design that Allisen Larson created for us. She was prompt, efficient and classy. We bought a classic 4 square Portland home and needed window coverings, interior paint, wall decor and furniture. She met with us in our home in order to grasp an understanding of our individual ideas for our interior. She made sound design choices based on our tastes in style and color. We hired Allisen and Introspecs early on in our project, and it was one of the best decisions we made. Allisen was our constant advocate through the ups and downs of a major construction and remodel project that lasted for nearly three years. We could not have done it without her. She's also not afraid to get dirty, and crawl around with you on site when something's just not quite right. In part of our project, she stepped up and performed some project management when we really needed it. She's quite good at that too. We can't say enough good things about Allisen. We had never worked with a designer before so we weren't sure how much control to relinquish. From the moment we met Allisen at Introspecs LLC we were completely put to ease. Her gentle nudging to look past our knee jerk reactions helped us to be open to seeing our space in a new light. In trying to meet our budget she worked hard to find the perfect fireplace surround and then worked directly with the fabricator to make sure the size and shape of the design would be accurate. Introspecs LLC has provided design services for me on a number of projects over the past few years. We appreciate their knowledge, great space planning and layout skills. I engaged Allisen from Introspecs to remodel our "forever house", a 1907 bungalow that had seen a patchwork of remodeling over the last 100 years. Among other things, she has drawn floor plans, lighting plans, selected furniture, designed cabinetry, selected colors and finishes, recommended moldings, etc. Quite simply, she's fantastic, and here's why: 1. She really listens. I'm the type of person who has a vague idea about what I want (but very specific budget requirements), but articulating these ideas in 'design speak' baffles me. Allisen spends a lot of time listening and presents me with 3-5 options: a "literal" option (e.g. Japanese-inspired = tatami mats); an "abstract" option (e.g. origami-like wall tiles); and an "edgy" option (e.g. Roku-glazed tiles with a pop of coral). 2. She's very responsive and keeps in constant communication via email, phone, and even texts. I love that she comes up with ideas at random times and sends me emails for feedback: it shows that she's thinking about my project even when not officially "on the clock". 3. She's flexible in accommodating my schedule, but always punctual, precise, and delivers when she says she will. 4. She works well with contractors -- I especially love that she'll do a walk-through with our general contractor and/or his subs to go through the finer points of detail. 5. She has great "hard" design skills (CAD, architectural functions, etc.) and "soft" skills (furniture selection, upholstery, colors, etc.) to create a holistic, put-together style for our house without making it feel like a chain hotel. I would recommend Allisen without reservation for anyone who is looking for thoughtful, creative, but liveable design.

I would highly recommend Allisen and Introspecs for your design work. I've never remodeled before so I went into this project without a clear vision. She did a great job of helping me understand the potential for my new kitchen, combining my ideas with well thought out expertise to design a space that will be beautiful and efficient. I loved working with Allisen at Introspecs LLC. We had a good idea of what we wanted when we contacted her and she helped us flesh out the details and provide drawings to get a more concrete description to the contractor. She also advised us against some of our ideas that would have ended up making us feel more cramped (in our tiny galley kitchen) and she did it in a respectful and educating way - even as far as showing us a detailed drawing of our idea and comparing it with a different one to help us make the choice. She also came up with innovative design solutions for us as well, in regards to a liquor cabinet door (sliding chalkboard door instead of a swing chalkboard door for better clearance within the available side walls). It was great being able to turn to her for advice during this job as she explained her opinions and design recommendations on any of those matters no matter how small. She is easy going and fun to work with, she is very positive and is a great listener. Also, she works fast! She stayed in constant communication as we tried to get the drawings done in record time to start a project with a looming deadline. She also kept the contractor (Modern Organic Construction) in the loop on every single detail as evidenced in all of our cc'd emails. I will show photos once the project gets under way.

Allisen of Introspecs provided kitchen designs for a total kitchen remodel. Along with the design and specs for the kitchen she assisted in helping pick the finishes and materials used. We are very satisfied with the services that Allisen provided. We hired Introspecs to help design a custom 12-ft wardrobe for our unusual master bedroom, which had been expanded from its original 1961 cube to include both a bump-out sitting room and a loft sleeping area over it. This alienated and marooned the original bedroom footprint, which became a walk-thru with two orphaned and constricted closets. We had an idea and a gifted carpenter. Allisen of Introspecs became our design medium, creating a turnkey design that incorporated the midcentury lines with a modern aesthetic appeal that both anchored the space and made it functional! Her clever design also gives the illusion of symmetry until the closet doors are open and the interior compartments are visible. Allisen was always punctual, professional, and a very good listener. She communicated regularly and was also good on the follow-up. I would hire her again!

We hired Introspecs to provide the design and management of our Portland Office and it turned out fabulously. Allisen was able to take our requirements for a professional polished look with a comfortable (Portland/IT) office feel and turn it into the reality of our new space. Allisen Larsen with Introspecs was our design consultant when my husband and I were building our home. Not only did she provide design and working drawings for various parts of the home project such as the kitchen, library, closets, bathrooms etc., her advice was invaluable. Allisen provided design consulting services on a whole-house interior rebuild of our 1954 ranch home in SW Portland. We had suffered a fire in the house resulting in the need to completely remove the interior finishes (all sheetrock and plaster). This presented the opportunity to make several changes, most notably to the configuration of the kitchen and the removal of two interior walls separating the kitchen from the dining room. Allisen also provided design advice on colors, closet configurations, window coverings and flooring throughout the project. Working with Allisen has been a great experience. She's got a great innate design sense but she also listens closely to the sensibilities of the client and organizes her proposals around those likes and dislikes. Other things that are great about working with Allisen are that she's extremely responsive and available at short notice for help with construction decisions, her fees are reasonable and she's got a great quirky sense of humor.

We worked with Allisen on a referral from a contractor friend of ours and she didn't disappoint. We needed to work to design a master bedroom and bathroom out of an unfinished attic space with plenty of challenges. She did an exceptional job of really getting to know my wife and I, our tastes, and what we were comfortable doing with the space. From there, she hit every single deadline, and very nearly literally held our hands through the process. I first met Allisen almost five years ago. I hired her for one major reason as she has a degree in Interior Architecture as I needed someone who could appreciate my desire to move doors walls and closets in my home and redesign two bedroom suites each with their own private baths. Allisen is a remarkable designer as well we both worked well together determining my budget selecting contractors ( a plumber and a tile installer) to assist in the remodeling work. We worked closely together picking out tile for the new showers and fixtures for my home. Since we have completed my work I regret not having yet another project for her to work on. I recommend her highly.

We hired Introspecs to help us design a residential kitchen that we were remodeling in an old 1928 Portland bungalow. Our experience with Allisen and Introspecs was fantastic. Allisen was able to listen to our needs and design style, make thoughtful suggestions on how to maximize the efficiency of the space and workflow, propose designs that were true to the period of our house (something that was important to us), and create a set of final drawings that allowed us to bid the project out to three general contractors in a fair and organized manner. Once the kitchen remodel was underway, Allisen really had our back to ensure the final result was true to her/our design. Allisen spec'd some really cool Hafele cabinet organization fixtures that our contractor had never heard of and wanted to switch to something they had worked with in the past. Allisen went to bat for us and helped the contractor source the correct fixtures, and now that we have them its hard to imagine the kitchen functioning nearly as well without them. Every storage detail was really thought through by Introspecs - some workflow things we never even knew we needed, but now we can't live without them. Allisen has a pleasant personality, really listened to our needs, and added a ton of value to our project! Thanks!
