I recently had an upper (aluminum) and lower (PVC) deck added to my house through Exterior Craft. I love both decks and I am now enjoying the choice of where to sit and relax in my backyard. It was a pleasure dealing with Tim and his crew, Darren, Wes and Josh. They worked so hard during the heat wave - their work ethic is amazing! And it is matched by the quality of their workmanship. To be perfectly honest, there was a small miscommunication at the beginning of the project. The only reason that I am mentioning it is that it was handled so well by Tim and Darren - only apologies and remedies, no excuses or defensiveness. Things sometimes happen, and it is good to know that Tim and his team can handle situations responsibly and think first of the customer. I would not hesitate to recommend Exterior Craft to anyone looking for a deck (and, in fact, I already have!)

Tim and his team did a great job on replacing our old deck. With Tim's advice about materials we chose a PVC deck surface which looks super and will eliminate the need for annual sanding and staining. I also appreciated that Tim was always available by email, text or phone, and replied promptly. The work was done in a timely manner, as promised. We hired Exterior Craft following analysis of the reviews and following a phone call with Tim. We have a raised cedar deck and wanted waterproof patio space below the deck. Tim recommended the LockDry aluminum decking, and showed us samples of the different colour choices. We decided to go ahead with his recommendation. Tim came up with an innovative solution for providing the slope so that rain will drain off the deck. The work was done to a very high quality. The installers were a pleasure to have at our home, and they worked efficiently and carefully. They had to remove and then replace our glass railings, this was done without any problems. They cleaned up after the work was finished. We are delighted with the results, and can now enjoy the space under the deck.

I was nervous about this choice having always used cedar but the long last factor was appealing. We’re so pleased with the result - it is truly gorgeous. When we moved into our Ottawa home, we decided to remove the leaking hottub from the corner of our deck. We then searched for a company to fill in the resulting empty corner of the deck. We engaged Exterior Craft to replace an aging set of stairs and small deck at the back to of our house. Tim and his staff were a pleasure to deal with, were friendly and extremely competent. I found Tim (Exterior Craft) searching the web having no previous experience with him. My wife and I were looking to have a deck built in our backyard. Tim came over to give us a quote and view our backyard, and right from the start he was giving us ideas on what we could do based upon what our original plan was. He listened to our concerns and advised us on both the good and negative aspects to what we were thinking. By the end of our consultation, Tim had explained everything to us in great detail on types of deck materials we could go with, what we could expect for timelines and the overall process, and estimated costs. Tim and his crew built a wonderful 12’ x 17’ deck on our house made with Timber Tech composite deck materials (low maintenance, durable). Tim always kept us informed at every stage of the project. His team (Darren and Grant) were extremely professional and friendly. They were patient with us with our multitude of questions, and were very flexible to make minor adjustments at our request. At the end of each day the work place was kept extremely clean and tidy. The end cost of the project did not vary from the estimate. The work was of a high quality and it was a great experience working with Tim and his team!

Project: Deck 1 - 5feet x 13feet Azec Vintage Decking, 2 techno piles, glass and aluminum railing Deck 2 - 12feet x 20feet Azec Vintage Decking, Contact Lumber, cribbing design We had what we believe to be a pretty elaborate deck. We found Tim and his team wonderful to work with and would recommend them to anyone. Design and Contact Phase: Tim was available to answer question, we sent him tons of email and he made suggestions. We mocked up a drawing but he provided feedback. Our top deck needed support and he suggested the techno piles, the lower deck we wanted on the ground so he suggested contact wood instead of the piles. He was able to arrange the piles to be installed well before we got our fence installed (which is important due to access). The Crew and Construction: Darren was our foreman and he was phenomenal. What we really liked about his was that he made suggestions to us. What we thought we wanted we decided against (drilling a hole through the deck for gas line). The team was quick, efficient and did great great work. Our deck looks wonderful and we are very happy with it. We have a hot tub going in and were going to use crushed stone base. Darren actually suggested we box it in otherwise the stone might move. Our immediate thoughts were they wouldn't be able to fit us in as it wasn't part of the original job. Nope, Tim is quoting this as we speak and says it can be done when they come back to do the railing. The great thing about this is we didn't have to suggest it to them, they made suggestions as they went along. I do have to mention the younger workers that were with Darren. They were super quick, helped move things for us and very friendly. They cleaned everything, removed old deck and you can't tell they were even here. Anecdotally my wife found it pretty funny when Darren used his foot and a measuring tape to show us the width of the stairs, she said no one has every used their foot to show her a measurement. Electrical for Deck: Tim and his team actually slowed down a bit to let me coordinate an electrician coming in to run electrical through the deck for both the hot tub and electrical outlets on either corner. The crew actually fastened the electrical after they put the fascia on. I was worried about holding them up but it's clear they were not worried and were very accommodating. On one final note we had a bit of an issue with our neighbour when the project was going on. Tim actually went over to apologize in person and bought flowers. My neighbour said he has never seen a contractor do that. It shows me that Tim has the same philosophy we do which is owning up to things and making it right. I have to be honest, I spent a long time looking for someone to do my deck. I am very particular and I need to feel like we are more than just a job. We spent alot of money on this project (given the lumber prices and the Azek decking) and I don't regret any of it. This deck stands out and Tim was a pleasure to work with.

What an extraordinary experience. The best four words in renovations: on time, on budget! We replaced our 30-year-old wodden deck with a new and larger TimberTech creation. Tim, Darren, and crew were great workers, as well as respectful and polite. Tim's communication skills were excellent. I have just had a basic, attractive deck, in Azek, built by Tim Beadle of Exterior Craft. Living in a townhouse condominium complex, there were requirements and issues which, Tim copied throughout, I began discussing with our board and property management group ten months ago. Challenges/drama/delays through the intervening months and approval process. I could not have hoped for a more informed, more collaborative, more pleasant relationship with my builder in the face of that process. I give Tim high marks for his technical knowledge and support, which helped me to maintain some degree of equanimity opposite the referenced challenges. Further high marks for his management, in his peak season, of a sudden, unrealistic requirement for ‘immediate’ dismantlement of the old deck (to allow exterior brickwork on the house). And, at last, his swift, smart installation of a fresh, handsome deck in Azek. Professionalism and invaluable assistance to me, and crisp new deck, and I recommend Tim Beadle and Exterior Craft highly.

Earlier rating was a mistype, so I am redoing: Tim was very professional and friendly throughout. He provided a timeline and delivered our deck made of composite wood and aluminum rails within that timeline. When we had concerns, he addressed them. His design suggestions were also well received. We also liked that he drew our attention to potential water drainage problems below our deck and took steps to address that issue. On another occasion, when a sub contractor doing the techno metal poles accidentally damaged our gate, Tim took care of repairing it.

Tim did a great job of working with us to hone our vision and ultimately deliver a great result on time and on budget. Murt and his crew addressed grading issues, redid a fence and built a beautiful deck with artificial grass on the side. Whenever a question or potential issue came up both Tim and Murt were very responsive, working with us until we were happy with the result. The crew was pleasant to have around and the work was done as quietly as one can expect. I am happy to recommend Exterior Craft to others.

Exterior Craft provided an excellent, on time, and highly professional service for a 2-level deck project to replace and extend a backyard deck area. Our backyard was a long-neglected disaster. The ground had even receded, skewing the grade level and threatening drainage problems. So we needed the whole thing stripped and re-graded, followed by the creation of flower beds, a small lawn, a large deck, and a hot-tub pad. We contacted Exterior Craft in the busy spring season but they got to work quickly. They were extremely thorough, going to great lengths to truly strip the yard down to a blank slate that could be built up properly from the foundations. We particularly appreciated that they took small details as seriously as the big stuff. Any issues we raised were dealt with immediately and completely. The final result was exactly what we wanted: A simple, clean, functional, well-designed backyard at a reasonable price.

We had a number of companies come in to quote for a new deck and tear down. Most did not have the answers to our concerns and made the process confusing. He got the back deck done quicky so that I would have it for use during the summer such as the weather permitted. He waited until there were enough clear days to tear down and rebuild the front porch so that I was not left with a gaping hole while it rained. The final result was a very satisfactory job at the cost budgetted. I highly recommend him to do similar outdoor work - professional and personable.

We are very pleased with the deck Tim did for us -- not only did he take the extra time to create a design that met our wishlist (no railing, low maintenance, fit with existing landscaping), he provided prompt and thorough answers to numerous emails we had about materials and process, and came to our home a number of times before starting the project to discuss the design. In addition, he arranged for us to view a previous client's deck to see how the Azek looked in place. The work was done on a timely basis, and the area was cleaned up on completion. We are extremely happy with the design and quality of the finished deck and definitely recommend Exterior Craft.

I got a reply from Tim in less than 2 days (1st one to reply). Even after sending pictures of the posts to be replaced, Tim took the time to come over before submitting his estimate. His estimate was significantly lower than the only other company that provided an estimate. The project was done in a timely matter with great quality.

We hired Tim to design and build a deck leading to a patterned concrete patio surrounding our pool. Tim is a very kind and accommodating person to deal with. We had very specific ideas and he was extremely patient and flexible in the design process. His workmanship was excellent and he was done in a timely fashion. This company is terrific to work with. Tim, the owner, is clearly very experienced at building decks. We provided Tim with a plan. He explained how the deck would be constructed, and suggested small changes that maintained the overall look of the deck while reducing the cost significantly. Tim's crew was equally terrific. They were clearly experienced master carpenters, who were friendly, meticulous in their work, and kept the work area very clean. At the last minute, we wanted to make some significant changes to the materials that had been spec'd. Although we had messed up his schedule, Tim was very supportive, reminding us that it was important for us to get exactly what we wanted, even if it was going to take a bit longer. He referred us to previous clients who had used materials that we were considering, and they provided very useful advice. In the end, we got the deck that we wanted, we use it all the time, and we are very happy with the workmanship and the people that built it.

Tim and his crew from Exterior Craft ripped out our old, peeling cedar deck and replaced it with a beautiful maintenance free deck with Azek decking. We were very much impressed with Tim's attention to detail and meticulous work. The whole experience from start to finish was very pleasant as Tim consulted with us throughout the process, and his team was friendly and professional. I first heard about Exterior Craft from friends who had owner Tim Beadle help them design a new deck and subsequently build it to as close to perfection as possible. At first sight I knew that I wanted to replace our 5 year old deck using the same materials as Tim had used to build our friends deck. After doing our do diligence with other recommended deck builders we decided to go with Exterior Craft and their price was competitive and we knew that all of their staff was easy to work with and absolutely meticulous to a fault. I had the good fortune to hire Tim Beadle at Exterior Craft to execute on a creative Welwyn Wong building design for my townhouse balcony and patio area. Tim was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He used excellent judgement in recommending materials and hired sub-trades as required to produce a fabulous result. Exterior Craft's Mr. Tim Beadle completed a 2nd story maintenance-free deck project for us in 2013 for our house in west end of Ottawa that has a walk-out basement. The new deck was built using extruded interlocking aluminum decking planks providing a truly water-proof solution. The decking planks have a heavy duty powder coat finish with an embedded crumble for unmatched non-skid performance. The result is a beautiful surface that is super easy to maintain; a light sweep or hose down is all that is required. A staircase was also constructed using the same aluminum decking planks making for a light (not heavy) look. Beautiful black aluminum railings completed the final touches. The sides and underside of the deck was finished with elegant white vinyl panels with integrated pot lights for entertaining in the evening. The support columns were wrapped in white vinyl panels. Overall the aluminum railings and flooring, with elegant support columns and soffit all came together to make a spectacular look. We remain very impressed with Mr. Tim Beadle's professionalism and approach to work with us from concept creation, design, implementation, through to delivery. We are extremely pleased with Tim’s detailed and high quality work, the deck is magnificent and exactly what we were hoping for. The project was completed on-time and on-budget. Tim’s attention to detail is to be commended, and is reflected in his choice of team members and attention to every phase of the project. We would highly recommend Tim and his team for any deck project, large or small.

The project consisted of replacing our pool deck (done using interlock stones) by a composite product (PVC) with no maintenance needed. My wife and I were very impressed by the expertise and working experience with the proposed product. We were impressed by the ease with which we could discuss our needs, and the ability of Tim's team to explain how the work would be completed. Their work was excellent, they accomplished everything we requested within the projected budget and the workmanship exceeded our expectations. Tim Beadle (owner of Exterior Craft) was instrumental in carrying out the deck replacement of 48 upper balconies at our Condominium. Tim made many innovative suggestions with regard to the method of installation of an aluminum decking product called "Lockdry" as this type of project had never been carried out before in the Ottawa area. Tim's employees always came to work early and cleaned up the work site at the end of every day for the entire six weeks they were here. The project was completed on time and on budget.
