Greg is the best. He renovated out triplex loft in NYC and it wasn't easy. It was a combined apartment that was done very poorly (by an architect no less) Greg immediately understood what we wanted. He suggested we keep a few existing items (bathroom vanities etc) and put our money where it made sense-- the kitchen, floors and finishings. He brought in an incredible contractor whom he worked closely with daily. Greg was also very accessible (I called him a lot!!) --He's a perfectionist and a very nice guy to boot! Plus he's trustworthy and honest-- I always knew he had my best interest in mind. I have recommended him to friends and can't say enough great things about him. If you're planning a renovation or new construction Greg should be the first (and only) call you make!

We are extremely pleased with the work Gregory Colston has done for us. From our first meeting we were impressed by his energy and the excitement he showed about the possibilities for our apartment. The way he described the renovation process conveyed experience and practicality that instilled confidence--which we were right to feel! The design he produced, a welcomed departure from anything we could have imagined, maximized the potential of the space and views, and gave us a home we love! Greg and his very competent staff were with us every step of the way, greatly simplifying the daunting process of selecting finishes, fixtures and furnishings, and introducing us to materials and options we had been unaware of and were very pleased to find. Working closely with the contractor, they kept the construction phase on schedule and within budget—in a New York City co-op no less! The inevitable issues and changes were handled with ease and efficiency. We heartily recommend Gregory Colston Architect.

Greg is extremely good to work with, and did an excellent job on our project. He produced multiple design options for us efficiently and went over each of them with us personally and in detail. He worked closely with us through all phases of the project providing thoughtful advice on materials (flooring, windows, appliances) and other items, and spent a lot of time with us making sure everything was exactly the way we wanted it. He was always friendly and resourceful, with a can-do attitude and a diligent and responsive approach.

Working with Greg was the best decision I made concerning my apartment. He managed to make life unexpectedly easy while delivering a living space far beyond my expectations. Greg took the general Parisian aesthetic I wanted and fluidly married it to his modern and open sensibilities. He has a deeply intuitive understanding of space, light, and flow, and will guide you through the consequence of color and textures. Always keeping in mind the effect decisions have on the way you experience a space, Greg’s direction on every detail is as welcomed as it is effective. When it comes to working with Greg and his team, you’ll be hard pressed to find any other professionals as enjoyable and patient. Rather quickly, Greg fully understood my tastes and constructively filtered my choices to a manageable selection, saving me from endless browsing through dizzying catalogs. Relaxed and patient, he’ll lucidly explain the effect of your choices and will guide you towards what he thinks is best. The heavy lifting of overseeing the construction was done by Greg, as well. I trusted him to manage every step of the gut renovation, from filing permits, hiring and supervising contractors, and recommending and purchasing fixtures and furniture. As the inevitable issues arose, Greg’s experience and creative solutions were essential time and money savers.

As a real estate broker here in NYC, I have seen a good deal of renovated spaces and many that Colston Architects have renovated. When it came to my renovation I chose Greg's office because of the work and the positive feedback I had heard from his clients. Without doubt Greg squeezed every inch out of my apartment and made it better than I could have imagined. In a sometimes maddening world of renovation unknowns, Greg and his team cut straight through the noise. Greg presented clear designs and explained what each means from an ascetic and cost-benefit perspective. Greg has a number of working relationships with vendors and contractors and leverages those connections to negotiate the costs for his clients. I feel I received a tremendous value from a gifted architect. I have since recommended Colston Architects many times and will continue to do so until it's time for my next renovation!

I never understood why people complained about their architect. We have been lucky enough to have worked with Greg Colston for the past decade on 3 projects, and have referred him to perhaps a dozen friends (and even my parents!), and we've never had anything but high praise for his work and approach to a job. Greg is always optimistic, always fighting every line-item to keep costs down, and always seeking the best contractors for the job. He can create spaces that are traditional, warm and contemporary, or austerely modern. As a result, we have renovated two dumpy lofts into gorgeous homes that we sold with very nice returns. We are currently working on a townhouse that we had Greg see before we even put in an offer; he saw a diamond in the rough and is making us a gorgeous home, all within our time and budget (a rarity in New York City).

Commented: FlooringHi Jersey Cabana, I was on LBI all week! The floor is 7" sapwood ash and it is a solid wood floor. It is beautiful when whitewashed because of the heavy cathedraling in the grain that warms up...
