Harka was founded with an inquisitive spirit and lofty objective: to create beautiful and inspiring spaces that possess the lowest carbon footprint possible while empowering their inhabitants to live environmentally responsible and toxin-free lifestyles. Using existing carbon data, toxicology information, and life style analyses, our team makes informed decisions when designing spaces and specifying materials. Our innovative designs inspire a better world and inform a more thoughtful way of living. We worked with Patrick and Brad at Harka on an ADU design project this year. We didn't end up reaching the build stage (for reasons that had nothing to do with them) but we would have been thrilled to see it come to fruition. The did a good job of taking our rough vision and fleshing it out into something really interesting, despite its necessarily small size. They brought both practicality and creativity to the project and I think the small space would have lived really well. I would highly recommend them.

We consulted with Harka on a remodel, specifically looking for advice on energy efficient window choices and ERVs. Patrick’s knowledge for products and technology was current, accurate, and took into account our budget. We LOVED working with Patrick on this small consultation, and hope to work with Harka in the future for a guesthouse buildout, if we’re so lucky. :) Cannot recommend him enough!!!

This was our first venture into retail, so the choice of architectural firms was critical. We chose Harka not only because of their experience, but because they seemed to want to work in partnership with us, instead of just handing us a plan and moving on to the next project. Patrick and the other great folks at Harka were tremendous. They helped us in every way, not only with our general store layout, but also in planning foot traffic, signage, planning for security issues and more, including not only how the customer would see the store, but also making a design that was the most efficient for us operationally, and, of course, keeping our budget on track. It was a great working relationship, and would hire them again should the situation arise!

We feel so fortunate to have found Patrick and his crew at Harka and couldn’t be happier with their design of our off-grid cabin. We lost the original cabin, built by hippies in the 70s, to a wildfire. We loved that place and, while small, it left big shoes to fill. Patrick considered the cabin’s place on the landscape and integrated the elements into the design - the prevailing winds, the movement of the sun, potential snowfall, and rainfall. He maximized our views and natural light while making sure we had a building envelope that would keep us comfortable in the bitter cold of winter and the scorching heat of summer. The materials he selected were as sustainable and fire resistant as our budget would allow. He came to the table with creative ideas and, importantly, he listened.

We worked with Harka on a major remodel that retained only our basement walls and the foundation, and rebuilt the main floor with a new master suite above. Our home is in an established neighborhood that was built in the 1950s, and it was important to us that the new structure did not clash with the neighborhood, but also exhibited a modern design. Additionally, we were height limited by CC&Rs, and we needed to stay within the existing footprint due to our lot size. Harka worked within these constraints and surpassed all of our expectations. Harka's design maximizes the views of Puget Sound provided by our lot, while implementing appealing and efficient architecture that includes exactly the right amount of shading. We couldn't be happier with the results Harka delivered, and we routinely talk to each other about how much we love our new space.

We needed to remodel our two story house to make it accessible for a family member newly in a wheelchair. Patrick was amazingly creative in figuring out where to put an elevator, take out walls, and reconfigure the kitchen. Tammy worked with us tirelessly on various options for the kitchen layout as well as all the other details of the project. When there were inevitable and unexpected complications with construction along the way, they were instrumental in figuring out solutions. They were immediately responsive, thoughtful, and a pleasure to work with. Everything was done in the most professional manner. Our house looks amazing with a new elevator and a new floor plan that looks like it was built that way in the beginning. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I highly recommend Harka for architectural services. They designed our ADU apartment addition (an upstairs unit built onto our garage), and whenever I show people the space, the first thing they say upon entering is, "Wow...this is really nice!" I ran into budget issues that I blame mainly on my own naivety going in to this project, but having learned from experience, if I was going to do another project like this, I would definitely hire the Harka team again. They do great design work, they are professional, friendly, good communicators, and especially knowledgeable when it comes to energy-saving features and materials.
