Working with Shaul and Alon on our backyard studio was an absolute pleasure. From day one, they were flexible, easygoing, and brought a calm, collected energy to the project—even when unexpected challenges like methane mitigation popped up. Daniel and his team, who did the main building, were equally great to work with: steady, reliable, and always keeping the project on track. What really stood out is how much personality they brought to the process. Alon is a surfer and Shaul plays cello in addition to being fantastic general contractors, and you could feel some of that creative, pacified perspective shaping the way they approached the build. As someone who shares that kind of mindset in my own work, it felt like the perfect fit—we were speaking the same language. Of course, construction projects always have their ups and downs, but with these guys, it never felt like we were off the rails. My wife and I couldn’t be happier with the studio, and we’d recommend this team again and again. In fact, we’re already planning to work with them on our five- to ten-year renovation of our 1911 Craftsman house here in Los Angeles.

We recently completed a kitchen and guest bathroom renovation with the K&S team and are extremely pleased with the results! From start to finish, Shaul and Alon were highly communicative, proactively sharing timelines and keeping us informed every step of the way, especially when unexpected issues arose. This level of communication was a huge relief and made the entire process much smoother. While we might have approached the design aspect of our guest bathroom differently in hindsight (perhaps by working with our own designer), the general contracting work itself was excellent. The K&S crew did a fantastic job of keeping the project moving forward efficiently despite this, and we are thrilled with our beautifully renovated spaces. We highly recommend them for their professionalism and strong communication skills. And will certainly be working with them again in the future.

I would highly recommend K&S Design Build. I met with multiple contractors for my full house remodel. I decided to move forward with K&S because they best understood what I wanted to see out of this remodel, quoted within the budget I was shooting for and answered every seemingly ridiculous question I had. They were patient while keeping in close contact during my decision process. Shaul and Alon were both very knowledgeable and seemed just as excited for my project as I was. It made me confident they were the right choice. Throughout the process, they did an amazing job. They were quick, with solid work. They stayed on the city for permits and planning and did everything within their control to keep things moving to hit our target timeline. The work is all top quality and anything that wasn't perfect was fixed quickly and with a good attitude. You could tell they understand that this is a huge expense and that the work needs to reflect that. They never made me feel bad for any idea, even if it was brought up way later than it should have been. Everything we brought to them they made work. Anything we weren't 100% happy with they fixed and made sure we were a priority throughout the process. I would absolutely recommend them and will plan to use them for any future project.

K&S really saved the day for us! Out of all the contractors that my wife and I interviewed, Alon and Shaul offered the most competitive pricing, while also bringing their passion, imagination, and flexibility to the project. And they also surrounded themselves with other talented individuals who were able to turn our vision into reality. We broke ground in February by stripping the house down to its studs. Our space is a 3 bed/2.5 bath built in 1939 with a relatively small footprint (~1400 sq. ft.) meaning that we had to get creative with our design to accommodate the needs of our growing family. A major part of the work that K&S did for us was to break down multiple walls separating the cramped kitchen, dining and living rooms and opening them up into a single spacious great-room. Kiki, the interior designer, was invaluable during this process. To accommodate our home's limited space, she proposed several ingenious designs to meet our needs. This included running a pair of beautiful open shelves across the kitchen windows for extra storage space, as well as building an attached bench into the kitchen island so that the dining area would feel less crowded. These daring design choices were real game-changers when it came to making our house feel comfortable and unique. Vlad, the K&S architect, brought really good insight into the permitting process. As a former city permit inspector, he ensured that K&S was able to pull permits quickly and efficiently, so that we were able to start demo with minimal delay. Several other parts of the work also really stood out. The handmade artisanal tilework in our kitchen and bathroom were so well-done that another contractor friend of ours made a point to call it out. Likewise, the drywall work has a smooth clean finish that transitions seamlessly into the ceiling. And finally, the custom-made cabinets that the K&S carpenter built for us have a luxury look-and-feel to them that would have been impossible to replicate if we had gone the pre-fab route. K&S also did a great job of helping us navigate the unexpected surprises that come with home renovation. Because the house was so old, we faced a number of issues such as termites, mold damage, and a leaky roof. K&S was flexible and quick about adding these issues into their scope of work, and they were able to find subcontractors who could fix those issues efficiently. They were also great about updating us regularly throughout the project via our WhatsApp group. We moved into our place around August and got settled in quickly. The space already feels like ours, and we hope to call this place our home for the rest of our lives. Overall, the experience was excellent, and thinking back, it would have been a VERY different story if we had gone with a different contractor.
