We contacted Breff McLaughlin with a general concept for the house that we thought we wanted ☺️ and he worked with us to create plans for a house that was actually feasible (snow load, seismic concerns, just to mention a few). Not just feasible (which is obviously very important), he created a house that was significantly better overall. He created a space that made the most of our view; he understood and worked with our relentless west winds; he planned the space to cater to our personal needs/desires. Throughout the planning process, Breff creates video walk throughs of your space with the software he is using to create the plans. This is invaluable. The video walk through is a multi-dimensional experience which allows you to feel like you are in the house. You can look out your windows to make sure you are getting the views you intended. You can stand in your kitchen and look around to make sure you have the space needed. Being able to walk through your house prior to building it provides actual confidence that a plan on paper could never provide. I can't stress enough how valuable Breff's design process is; we made so many changes, that we would not have seen on paper because of the video walk through. While we weren't able to build this year, our plans are ready for when we are. We are super happy with our plans and have Breff and Lisa to thank. Not only is the design great, we feel very lucky to have been able to work with such genuinely kind and lovely people. We highly recommend McLaughlin Design & Construction.

Breff (and his project manager Lisa!) took a vision and dream and turned it into reality. They actually listen to the customer. The project turned out perfect. Breff was very professional to work with. He listened to our requests and conscientiously incorportated each detail into our plan. The CAD program he uses offered another, more personal, dimension to the project, giving us a clearer picture of the finished design. He communicated with us consistently and finished in a timely manner.

Breff helped us take a building plan that had previously been worked on by 2 different architects and make the changes necessary to complete a half-finished design which allowed us to end up with the place we really wanted. I am someone who really needs to "see" something to fully understand it. Breff's computer program allowed us to visualize what he was doing in real time, examine alternative choices and then make our decision. Kind of like magic! This was particularly helpful for us since we were 2,000 miles away and had to connect remotely. Breff was professional, knowledgeable and worked hard to finish our project even with a condensed time frame.

We really enjoyed working with Breff! Our design meetings took place at his house which was designed and built by Breff. We often walked around to look specifically at different elements like widths of doors or window placement. Seeing our plans come alive on the computer was especially helpful for me since I have a hard time picturing things in my head.

We hired Breff to be our general contractor to renovate an entire house we purchased. He also provide us with CAD program designs so we could see how the finished project would look. He and his subcontractors did a very professional job. We also had Breff help us out when our original house was destroyed in a fire. He had the original CAD program showing the previous layout and we were able to develop new plans based these. It made our experience so much easier to rebuild. Breff is hands on, very professional and extremely helpful. I would highly recommend him to help you with your construction project.

We really enjoyed working with Breff on the design phase of our custom home. He is a good listener, incorporated our ideas and added the design flair we needed. I appreciated his knowledge of space and design principals. He was also very flexible with meeting times. Watching as he changed the design right in front of our eyes and seeing those changes immediately in 3D added to the experience. Life circumstances changed and we decided against moving forward with the build on this particular property, but McLaughlin Design & Construction was our first choice.

Starting with a graph paper design, we contacted Breff to help us design our ranch style home near Hood River Oregon. At the time we were living in Wisconsin and did long-distance changes via the Internet and his computer program. Breff easily made changes while we watched in real time. The process went amazingly well. Although construction took a little longer than we had hoped, we are very happy with our new house. Breff was always very professional and easy to work with. I would recommend Breff especially for his design work.

Breff designed and built my 1700sq-ft modern house. We were able to maximize the woods and Mt Hood views with floor to ceiling windows, while minimizing the very close neighbor. The open main floor plan makes the space seem huge and I love the flow in general. Being able to watch and add input during the 3-D design sessions was amazing. I loved seeing the furniture in place. Breff was careful to help explain what some of my requests would do to the budget and we worked on “prioritizing” a lot. I love my new house ❤️

Bref designed a remodel for our customer. His 3D renderings gave the client the opportunity to see exactly what the finished product would look like and gave me, as the contractor, a solid design to build from.

My wife and I bought a 1900 farmhouse in Hood River which most folks would kindly term “a project house”. Without Breff’s design capabilities, insight into local building codes and hands-on approach to managing a project this could easily have turned into a nightmare. Instead, we have recently moved into our dream house. From the start, Breff listened carefully to our concerns and more importantly what we wanted out of our new home. Given the scope of the project, the gap between the design and making the design a reality was a challenge given the location of the home and the scope of the construction. It is hard to believe that given the time and complexity of this project that we moved into our home has faced a few problems during the design and construction process. Contacted Breff McLaughlin after reviewing his website and seeing what he could do for us. We have a small 1000 square foot house with a detached garage that we wanted to remodel and update. We asked him to provide us with some drawings and floor plan adding an additional bathroom, laundry room and connecting the detached garage. We were very impressed with the various design options and the promptness of getting the designs back to us. We are looking forward to the construction process in the Spring.

We sought out McLaughlin Design to design the plans for our custom home. We came with a strong idea of what we wanted for a floor plan and a Houzz portfolio of exterior “looks” we wanted the house to end up looking like. Breff did a fantastic job of understanding our vision and created an exterior design that aligned with our vision and married it with the floor plan layout ideas we wanted … and all pretty much on the first try! Together we tweaked things over a few rounds of revisions but it was clear that Breff had not only carefully listened to what we wanted but furthermore, had the ability to implement and bring to life what we could barely conceptualize. He was efficient, hit his timelines and there were no surprise charges. The 3D program he designs in was very helpful during the process, allowing us to easily envision what the house would look like, especially when making changes on the fly and seeing the result immediately. Very excited for our new home.

McLaughlin Design did a great job listening to our needs and desires and turning our ideas into a tangible plan. We were able to see 3D images of our conceptual home that we had been dreaming of for close to 20 years. Breff did an outstanding job developing a file for my 1904 Historic renovation property in Hood River. It's proving a valuable aid in marketing activity with commercial clients interested in completing 21,000 SF of remaining upper level floors. Breff is free to use my file in support of his business.

Breff was very responsive to get started, was accommodating to my schedule and had a good eye with regards to home design. Made sure all the information was provided in order to obtain a building permit, and helped solve regulatory requirements. We used Breff for our initial design consultation for a restaurant and distillery in Hood River. Breff was great to work with. He was able to take the mandatory requirements I needed and creatively put them into play. Some designers we worked with had too many layers of ego to work through, not Breff. He could hear what we needed and put an architecturally creative spin on a blank idea. Unfortunately we didn't get to use him throughout the entire process as we were required to use a final architect and contractor, but I've seen Breff's work from start to finish and hope to work with him again on my own remodel.
