From our first meeting with Mantell-Hecathorn Builders, it was immediately clear that Hunter and Greg were the right team for our project. Our goals for our retirement home in Durango were for a high quality, energy efficient structure, with a design that complemented the building site and surrounding Twin Buttes views. We wanted an open interior design that would meet our changing needs as we aged. Hunter and Greg were very easy to work with; they listened to us and were responsive to our wants and needs during both the design and building process. We lived out of state and construction occurred during the Covid pandemic, so we greatly appreciated their constant communication and updates. The team was meticulous with their attention to detail. They are talented and dedicated, ensuring that each area of the home reflected our ideas and met our present and future needs. Hunter and Greg are experienced, knowledgeable, and award winners in building extraordinary energy efficient homes. But perhaps the most impressive aspect of working with them is that they made us feel like family. And while sometimes the decisions seemed overwhelming, they and their team were always available to patiently provide ideas, options, and guidance to help us meet our goals. We found Greg Mantell-Hecathorn’ s trustworthiness and attention to detail during the entire building process to be a great relief and a refreshing change from contractors who seem to have an excuse for every problem that arises during construction. Greg offers solutions to problems and not excuses and gave us peace of mind through the process. The home was completed as promised by Greg in 7-8 months, not the 12-15 months that some of our neighbors have had to endure for their homes. I am a retired CPA with over 45 years of experience and expertise; Greg has been a contractor for as long as I was a CPA and his experience, skill and trustworthiness are without question the best I have seen in a builder.

After buying our lot and interviewing a number of local builders, we selected Mantell-Hecathorn Builders as our first choice. Our goal was a Durango home that was built according to green standards of excellence and high energy efficiency. Together with architect Brian Huff of Reynolds Ash and Associates, Greg and Hunter Mantell-Hecathorn were attentive to our goals during the design process that resulted in an open concept dining, living space, and studio linked to an incredible kitchen. This design and construction team made certain our home was placed on the lot to maximize the views of the La Plata Mountains with a deck that is seamlessly connected to the living space. All aspects of the build were of the highest standards. Through personal meetings, phone calls and video conferencing, we were able to collaborate in all aspects of the interior design, which is spectacular and fits our lifestyle exactly. We have the highest regard for Mantell-Hecathorn Builders and recommend them most highly.

In 2018 I contracted with Mantell-Hecathorn Builders to construct a custom home for my family in the Twin Buttes development in Durango, CO. Greg and Hunter have outstanding relationships with subs, and all their subs are exceptional. They were open to alternative suppliers that we suggested. Their budget estimates were spot on, and their office staff is extremely efficient and helpful in every way.
