Once we started the building process, we learned that building in Durango is not like building in a big city. Subcontractors tend to be smaller outfits. This makes progress a bit slower (as does the Colorado winter), but it also leads to very personal relationships between Asher and its subs. We felt that the subs really trusted Asher and wanted to do a great job for them and for us. This resulted in great craftsmanship. We feel like Ed and his team were always open to answering our many questions and working through any concerns we had along the way. Any bumps in the road were dealt with head on and honestly. The open lines of communication fostered a great collaboration, ensuring that our concerns were addressed promptly and effectively. We loved that Asher is a true design build firm. Russ, Tracy and Bailey are an incredible in-house team. No request was too big or too small. This aspect of Asher really made a difference in ensuring that our vision was realized. As the build progressed and decisions needed to be made, they were called to our attention promptly and efficiently so that we knew what we needed to decide and when. In this way, the project moved along extremely smoothly. At the end of the project, it was obvious that the team was committed to dotting every I and crossing every T. The team made a punch list and we made one and every item was taken care of for us. Anything that has come up since we have moved in has been addressed promptly. “Being from Missouri but always trekking out to the southwest year after year, we have had a long-term goal of building our forever home in Durango. After purchasing our building lot we researched the area to get a feel for the region’s builders and contractors. We were introduced to Monica, owner of Ellis Piccoli, through our neighbor’s whom had finished their home a year prior. We were impressed with the design, quality finishes and overall ‘feel’ of the home. It felt open and large with a beautiful second story deck overlooking the Animas Valley. After meeting with Monica at several of her custom homes located throughout the Durango area we knew we had found our builder. She was easy to talk to and understood our needs and wants in the home’s ultimate design. We had a relatively modest budget and ultimately built an amazing home on time and within our budget. Any overages were our own decision as we upgraded a few finishes to match the overall quality of the home. She guided us during the design phase pointing out functional ideas and way to save money yet achieve our goals of a spacious feeling home that appears much larger than its true square footage. The second story covered deck is stunning and completes our home’s contemporary look and feel. Her key to a successful building project is due to having her own carpenter employees and great relationships with top-notch local tradesman and contractors. We were only in Durango for a week and she met with us to pick out final finishes and guided us along the way to keep within budget. She understood how each choice affected other budget considerations and that’s a key difference. Instead of saying ‘yes’ to all our thoughts, she informed us on how each decision would drive up costs, change a room’s layout and functionality. She ensures that you stay within your selected budget along the way unless you absolutely choose to upgrade a finish or feature. We met the building crew and they were professional and knowledgeable. Despite building the home entirely remotely from Missouri, we felt connected the entire time as Monica would send us frequent updates by email and text with photos and any questions, comments or punchlist items we needed to answer.
