Supremely professional with a great team. Would recommend! We used New Leaf to assist in designing an addition to an outbuilding in our soon-to-be century home. We were working with a unique property and needed specific code variances. New Leaf helped us work with the city, attended the Zoning Variance meeting, and we were able to move forward with their great design.

A few years ago Hallie designed a bedroom, bathroom, closet addition for my 1950's ranch and also redesigned the kitchen to take down a wall, create an island, and open the kitchen up to the living area. The addition also included moving the laundry room upstairs. I had the kitchen work done a few years ago and waited to do the addition. That work was completed last fall and I couldn't be happier. From both the inside and outside it looks like the addition has always been part of the house, not like someone stuck a room on the back of it. While it took a few years to get everything done (having nothing to do with Hallie) I'm glad I worked with an expert for the design since I plan to be here for the long term.

We used New Leaf Home Design to renovate our kitchen, back hall and make a screened porch into a four season room. Hallie helped us reconfigure our kitchen and back hall making it into a larger entry with a bench area with hooks and closet. She designed a stone exterior and determined window placement so it would accent and coordinate with the look of the existing exterior of our home. Hallie is very easy to work with. Her insights and knowledge are invaluable. She can design to help people “age in place” and she is knowledgeable of energy saving construction. We highly recommend New Leaf Home Design!

Hallie was an easy person to collaborate with while designing my age-in-place, zero-steps, energy efficient home. Her ideas and suggestions were valuable in arranging for flexible spaces connected to the greater outdoors. Because I live in a frequently cloudy location, it is important for me to avail myself of available natural light. Hallie tracked the path of the sun throughout the seasons then strategically situated windows to maximize natural light throughout the day and through the seasons. My home is airy and light filled with a robust connection to the surrounding environment. Hallie has extensive technical knowledge of green building, including prioritizing excellent interior air quality, efficient heating and cooling systems, and suitable insulation types and applications. Besides being energy efficient, she designed my new home to be solar-ready. My home, which will soon be completed, has to satisfy many roles. It will serve me as an age-in-place home that is also accessible for a frequent visitor who has significant physical disabilities. The extra wide doorways, halls, and roll-in shower are equipped to accommodate a wheel chair user. Furthermore, by locking two doors, my home will provide me with some retirement income as a two bedroom, one bath rental with its own entrance. This is a lot to achieve from a single-family, three-bedroom home, and with Hallie’s guidance and design knowledge it has been effectively accomplished. Additionally, Hallie paid attention to the livability of my home with strategically placed widows to watch the sunrise, and a much desired highly functional and beautiful kitchen, with an attached porch. In my garage she included a large south-facing window design for starting seeds as well as a much-needed dog wash. It is her excellent listening skills and her being attuned to my lifestyle that will make my new home comfortable throughout the year, and a joyful space for my visitors and myself. Working with Hallie has been a positive collaborative experience that resulted in a multifunctional, energy efficient, and decidedly livable home.

Hallie Bowie did a fantastic job designing our zero energy ready home. She listened to us carefully about what we wanted in our house and her design exceeded our expectations. Her knowledge and attention to detail not only about the architecture of the house but also what was needed to make it zero energy ready made the entire process seamless. The other element that we wanted in our house was design for “living in place” as we age. Hallie was also knowledgeable about this aspect of house design and had many good suggestions. We get many compliments about how the house perfectly “fits” our wooded lot and how the windows, views and light are wonderful. My husband and I wanted to add a sunroom, garage, and deck onto our home; we had the vision but we needed an architectural expert to help us coalesce our ideas . We had an initial meeting and then several follow-ups to get the design just right. Hallie was able to take all of the most wanted parts of the project and turn them into a beautiful, efficient and energy-conscience design, which we love. The fees charged by New Leaf were in line with other architects that we looked into who were not as knowledgeable about the areas of green building that we hoped to include in our project. Hallie Bowie was the architect for the new home we built in 2018 and we are extremely happy with the results. We started working with Hallie in August of 2017 and found what we had been missing during the planning process: an architect that is 1) detailed and thorough, 2) acted on our feedback, and 3) designed a house we could afford to build! First, Hallie is meticulous in her planning and execution. During the first few conversations, she had generated pages and pages of notes that captured all the details of our needs and wants for the house. She translated all of those into the architecture program (a formal document of our needs and wants). That attention to detail was a huge benefit as Hallie started designing the floor plan and layout because we all referred back to the list to help us decide what was most important. Second, as the design and layout progressed, Hallie was very open to feedback. We discussed what we liked or didn’t like about the floor plan, explored options that weren’t apparent until going through the design, and really dug into the details of how we would live in the house. Walls were moved, rooms were rearranged, and the final floor plan was exactly what we wanted. Third, Hallie was able to design a plan that we could afford to build. It is very easy for architect and client alike to add more square feet to the house at every turn during the design phase. But no budget is unlimited and we weren’t interested in building a mansion anyways. This is where Hallie really shined. She was able to design a home with the form, fit, finish, and features we wanted and maintained a close eye on how this would affect our budget. Her ability to fit the pieces together and use space wisely was impressive and much appreciated. Overall we very happy to have had the opportunity to work with Hallie. Not only did she design a beautiful house for us, but she is also great to work with. We definitely recommend Hallie for anyone looking to design a custom home!

I approached Hallie Bowie of New Leaf Home Design with an idea to remodel my beautiful 1930 home to solve the problems of an inadequately small garage and no mudroom. Hallie produced concept drawings based upon my idea. These drawings convinced me that though my idea was feasible it only marginally corrected the problems that I was trying to solve. With her architectural expertise Hallie then presented me with two alternate remodeling approaches. Both of these solved the deficiencies of my home and were real improvements to my original idea. My husband and I engaged Hallie Bowie of New Leaf Home Design to assist with the architectural designs for a renovation of our home in Brecksville. We love the home we live in designed by New Leaf Design. Every inch of the home is perfect from the traffic flow decisions they prioritized to the distinct transformation while maintaining the style of the 1950s Cape Code family home. She weaved the memories of our grandmother's home seamlessly with desires for modern touches. Hallie designed a remodel for our sixty year old ranch home in 2009. She was very professional and we were, and more importantly still are, thrilled with the results. Hallie was very sensitive to our wants and delivered her designs on time and for the agreed upon fee. She also provided timely follow up support with us and the building contractor when questions arose or changes (small) became necessary. We still contact her periodically with questions unrelated to our original project and she is happy to give her advice. We used New Leaf Home Design to design a portico for our 1952 home. The home had no curb appeal and we wanted a covered porch of some kind. Hallie was great about listening to what we wanted and what would work with our home. The portico needed to "float"; there was no room for support columns on our current porch. Also, the front door is not centered on our home and we were concerned that a portico might accentuate that. Hallie designed a beautiful, rounded, vaulted portico that gave us a very light, air feel. She moved the front door just a few inches to help visually offset the fact that the door is not centered. She was very easy to work with and listened to our ideas as well as sharing her own. We would love to work with her again.

I hired New Leaf Home Design for a complete remodle of my condo. The condo was gutted, walls and plumbing moved, Kitchen and two bathrooms completely changed. Hallie was very professional, efficient and gave very clear instructions tot he contractors through her drawings. The outcome was more than I could have hoped for and I love my new updated home.
