Adapt Architecture & Construction

We just competed a complete remodel of a 100 year old church in alamo heights that we conveyed to a 4 bedroom home. We worked with another well known builder/design for a few month but moved on because they could not seen the problems in their own plans until we pointed them out (I’m not talking about preference issues...this was code issues that would tank their plans or major design flaws) . And then after every meeting it was back to the drawing board. anyway we switched to Adapt after a friend recommended them and it was clearly a good choice. The timeline was 5 months out of the house and it took 6.5 but we added several major things during the project that added to the timeline. We want about 25k over budget but again I would say 90% of that was choices we made to add to the project. (We essentially have a new 2800 sf house that fits comfortably into the old shell) Morgan was our primary architect and GC but Pete (the other partner) was active with additional input. Their pricing structure was about 20% fee added to construction subs cost and materials. (Plus some additional design cost on the front end) They work very hard to find good budget alternatives when things are costing more than expected. Morgan is a totally great architect but has a great design eye too. We did not use a “stylist” like several other design/build firms had suggested. Their subs came in way under what we could have gotten ourselves if we had bid it out. We got a completely new ac/electric/plumbing/wood/ refinished floors with tons of alterations of original floor patch jobs/ new kitchen/ 2 additional rooms and 2 new bath, and tons of new tile work and complete new painting. The subs were all respectful and we had no problems with things going missing. (We moved Most stuff out but there was still lots of stuff they could have stolen if they wanted to and they did not.) Adapt was flexible through out the process And responsive all the way to the end of the project. Also they respected the original architecture of the church even to the point of finding a stained glass window to create a facade for a closed of side porch that so many people have commented that it looks original to the house. I think the pics speak for themselves. We hear that relationships get very strained in a major remodel but my wife and I joked that we never really felt the strain. We love the new space

We are custom cabinetry builders and have always been impressed with the level of commitment to detail and creative design Morgan & Pete have for each of their projects. We have been hired as their subcontractors for many projects now and it always feels like family when you come onto the job site with clients relaxed and enjoying watching the progress. Renovations are VERY challenging emotionally and financially-- Adapt has a way to keep it all in perspective. I highly recommend this Design/Build firm!

Morgan, Peter and Grant were great. They did our addition, and foundation work on the existing house. They were always responsive, and totally executed our vision - with minimal involvement from me - and on budget. What more could you ask for. We liked them so much that as soon as the addition was done, we used them again to do the residing of the existing house, and some light landscaping. We probably have 2 to 3 more phases of work to do on the property, and are planning on using Adapt for all of them. Would highly recommend

No words to describe this amazing Castano beautiful Project. The master suite is a soothing oasis of its own, with a private master bathroom that features a separate steam shower and tub, large walk-in closet and access to the patio. The home is surrounded by a tranquil outdoor living space that can be enjoyed from both the front of the house as well as two outdoor patios,neutrals are great tones to work off for any type of accent wall, can said, suggesting grays, beiges or even shades of off-white.

We came to Peter and Morgan with an old stone cottage in need of remodeling, that we could not get our family members into. Peter and Morgan spent an extensive amount of time learning about our needs for accessibility, our desire for universal design so that we could age in place, and our desire to keep as much of the old cottage charm as possible while still modernizing plumbing, wiring, and drainage. Then they worked on a creative and livable design. The process took time but the results are wonderful. One of our new bathrooms was featured in a local design and builder magazine! Our 'new' home is comfortable, accessible and charming. We look forward to years enjoying it.

Peter Dewitt Architect provided a professional and quality design for the Peterson House remodel. Specifically, his talent not only facilitated the rehabilitation and improvement for our project, but his understanding of our needs welcomed and included our own very acute architectural ideas. He made a reality, our personally-designed-dream of our home.

I hired Pete and Morgan to transform my backyard into a cooking, dining and entertaining area. The results were amazing! They took my basic ideas and built on them in every way to create something even better than what I could have imagined. I had an outdoor kitchen combined with a peaceful sitting area complete with a modern design fire pit and elegant water treatments. They xeroscaped the entire area so that it required minimal water usage to keep it beautiful. I was extremely pleased with the results and look forward to working with them again on future projects.
