Our kitchen was nothing short of a disaster but my husband and I decided to wait until after retirement to do a remodel. We had seen many of the Wise Design and Remodel signs in our neighborhood. We did meet with 5 remodeling firms in all and chose Wise. The day we met with Phil and Kim at our home was the day we decided to hire them. They took time and looked over the kitchen and adjoining rooms. Then they sat down with us and asked what we were looking for in a new kitchen. They really listened to what we wanted. We met with Phil, Kim, and Jason a few times to discuss options, things that would need to be done to accomplish what we wanted and then the destruction and construction started. Absolutely everyone, from the demolition crew to the final painter, was friendly, respectful, professional, and kind. Our questions were answered promptly and concerns were discussed and dealt with quickly. The remodel involved removing part of the dining room wall and matching the wood trim. We also had new windows installed throughout the house. The upstairs bathroom was retiled and retrimmed. Remodeling your home can be itimidating. Wise Design made it easier than I ever thought it could be. We are delighted with the new kitchen, bathroom, and windows. Would definitely hire Wise for any future projects.

We did a basement and an upstairs Bathroom remodel with Wise Design. This was the first time we have done a major home renovation in our 1950s home. Phil and Team not only did a great job, but they were phenomenal to work with. Phil’s team is professional, courteous, and easy to work with and provided strong guidance throughout the process. In addition, the contractors they use are the same and it felt like one big team. We did our remodel while we were expecting our first child and Phil and Team drew up a plan to get the jobs as completed as possible before the baby arrived around the year-end holidays. We really appreciated the Wise Design team staying true to their expected timeline so that there would be minimal house impact when our son arrived. Moreover, we enjoyed being able to monitor the project timeline on the builder trend app where we could clearly see who was coming and when and progress photos along the way. The basement remodel added a lot more livable space to our smaller home, and the bathroom remodel provided a much-needed refresh from the prior old and dated look. We would definitely recommend Wise Design as Phil and Team will treat you fairly and with kindness.

Valentine's Day seems like an appropriate time to write a review of our friends at Wise Design, since we did have a lovely experience from start to finish. After our initial consult it was clear that they were a kind and knowledgable team, and gratefully that was consistent throughout our endeavor. What stuck out to me at the onset was when Phil said something like, "it won't all go perfectly and things will happen since it's such a big project, but when they do I'll make it right." He stood by that promise and we appreciated his integrity and care. It was indeed a big project and a few things didn't go as planned, but he fixed every concern we had, building not only a beautiful new front of our home, but trust along the way. The entire crew was adored by our neighborhood by the time they were complete! It's a nice and rare combo to find people who are not only talented at what they do, but fun, communicative, caring and funny at the same time. We enjoyed the months-long process that included: consult, design, front porch tear off, new porch construction, new roof, siding, entry tear off and rebuild with replacement front door, new window, lighting inside and out, and beautifully tiled entry way. It's even better than we imagined and wouldn't have been possible without their expertise! We've recommended them to plenty of our neighbors and now want to tell you to call them too! Wise Design team were professional and thorough. We had a home project happening ahead of a large entertaining event at our home--installing a number of new windows. The team were extremely communicative and dedicated to getting the job done to high standards and on time. They even did an exceptional job of clean up despite the cold temperatures. The only thing that our guests saw were the improvements! Working on another project with them this year!

The basement remodel was is our first time doing a major renovation. As we interviewed different contractors, our conversation initial with Phil at Wise Design made us feel comfortable around what to expect in working with his team. He was very welcoming, and you got the sense that he will treat our space as his own home. One of the things that stood out was Phil’s thoughtfulness and all the upfront work that he took into account, so that on the back end we can mitigate as many surprises as possible. The Wise Design team would conduct multiple visits to the basement to take a look at the space, cut holes into walls to check for gotchas, and fine-tune some of the design plans. They did a really good job and their thoroughness was extremely valuable! Doing these upfront visits mitigated any surprises when it came time to break ground. Additionally, Phil’s team is excellent to work with! Not only his immediate staff, but even their contractors. We loved working with Tim, the Wise Design lead project manager. His communication was outstanding. During demo, we were out of the country and Tim sent us progress photos every day. That kept us informed and at ease. Tim, Johnny (carpenter), and Carson (carpenter) became like family. We would spend time with them get to know them and hear about what was going on their lives. The Wise Design team did an absolutely phenomenal job! Their thoughtfulness on each piece of the design came to life wonderfully. The care and consultative role that the whole team played made our vision come to life. The kindness, trust, and respect made us feel comfortable in making decisions. The renovation really enhanced the quality of life in the space! We love it!

We renovated the kitchen in our 1914 home with Wise Design & Remodel. It was a great experience, and I’m so happy with the finished product! I feel like the design team did a good job of listening to what we wanted and then helped us make decisions that could stay in our budget. Kitchen remodels are expensive!! While it wasn’t fun not having a kitchen for almost 3 months, there was minimal disruption in the rest of the house after demolition, it wasn’t nearly the mess I was anticipating! Communication was clear and any issues were dealt with quickly. Overall, my new kitchen is a dream, it was lovely to cook a holiday meal in the space and not feel crowded and overwhelmed. I still walk in and pinch myself that this is my real kitchen now! I would highly recommend working with them!

We had a general home renovation consultation with Phil and Kim that was very informative and helpful. Already needing a full roof replacement we hired Wise Design. The job was well managed by Tim. We’re really happy with the quality and look of the shingles, gutters and gutter guards. We would definitely welcome working with Wise Design for future home renovation projects, they are great to work with.

We picked Wise Design & Remodel to transform the unfinished storage area of our basement into an extra bedroom and modern laundry room because of some very inventive examples we saw on their website for small space design in homes like ours. And we were not disappointed! Their friendly project design & scope process is collaborative, flexible, and fun - and once construction began, the crew was always professional, upbeat, and always mindful of the fact that we were living and working in the house while they were there. Throughout the process, they communicated well and were always glad to answer our questions, offer suggestions, and solve problems as they came up. However, as remodeling projects often do, things didn’t go entirely as planned; just as the crew completed the framing and drywall stage, a rainstorm caused significant water intrusion into an unrelated (and previously finished) part of our basement. This is where Wise Design & Remodel really shined; although we had to put their project on hold for several weeks while we addressed the water issues, Phil, Jason, Tim, and Jhony went above and beyond, offering us advice, referrals to remediation vendors, and suggestions on things we could do ourselves to save money on all the unplanned costs of water remediation. When the water issues were resolved several weeks later, Wise Design & Remodel was back to quickly finish out their previous work and help us complete the new flood-related reconstruction with new insulation, drywall, paint, flooring, and finishes that matched their original part of the project. Despite the major setback of the flooding, the project was a complete success because of our fortunate selection of Wise Design & Remodel. We’ll be doing more projects with them in the future!

After months of interviewing different home remodelers, I chose Wise Design & Remodel because of Phil’s experience with making the most out of small spaces. He also knew the importance and history of my home to preserve some of the meaningful things while designing a space for my family. The best part of working with Wise was the communication and the hands-on nature of Phil and his team to make sure the vision is being properly conveyed in the actual build. We were so happy with the results that we decided to put my home on the MSP Home Tour in the Spring of 2023. We had an excellent experience with Wise Design. The project re-imagined our kitchen, creating a dramatic transformation of our main floor that also enhanced the functionality and style of our entryway, living room, and the transition to the lower level. Philip and team are creative, accountable, efficient, and client-oriented to design and build the best remodel for our space. The craftsmanship and attention to detail was excellent. We now have a unique kitchen and dining area that works within our original home footprint. The result is a refreshed, striking home that we can thrive in as a family.

My house and garage roofs took hail damage during a storm this summer. Wise Design & Remodel worked quickly with myself and the insurance to get the roof repaired quickly. I also had the chimney removed at the same time. It was no longer used and it made sense to get the work completed at the same time. The crew worked efficiently and was able to compete all the work in a day even with a couple pauses due to rain, and did a great job keeping the yard clean.

We hired Wise Design to do a complete basement remodel. From the moment we met Phil and his team, everyone was a delight to work with. Phil was very thorough and professional with his contract, timeline, and deliverables. He and Tim were very responsive and consistently kept us updated on the project’s progress with photos and detailed check-ins and walk-throughs. Jhony and David were prompt and careful with their work, and they always left the work site clean. The project was finished in a reasonable timeline, and we couldn’t be happier with our beautiful new basement.

Wise Design re-roofed my house and also repaired the top of my chimney September of 2021. Two years on the roof and the chimney repair are all perfect and I've had no water or ice issues the 2 winters since. As part of that work I also had a light tunnel put into my kitchen which was an amazing addition to my house. The light that it adds to the room is amazing, especially since the house to the south is taller. I was so happy with the company after this that I hired them again for a much more extensive project in 2022. That is in a separate review.

Wise Design and Remodel did an incredible job on our recent bathroom remodel! We could not be happier with how everything turned out. Their communication was excellent, the work was done very professionally and in a timely manner, and their attention to detail was extraordinary. I can't believe how smoothly the whole process went! We used Wise Design & Remodel for our basement remodel project. Phil's team of professional craftsmen built an exercise room for us, complete with a custom sauna. We also added a custom wet bar with a built in wine rack in the adjacent room. The work is of the highest quality, and Phil's attention to detail at every stage was amazing. We also appreciated Phil's honesty with regard to value added options and the trade-offs that come with every decision. It made us feel confident with our choices. Can't say enough about how pleased we are with the finished project!!

We worked with Wise in 2022 to remodel our kitchen and had a great experience. Phil and team were easy to collaborate with, responsive to our needs, and always clearly articulated changes and tradeoffs. They also handled unforeseen issues due to the nature of working with an older home with grace and skill. We're grateful to have had them by our side throughout this process and there was always a high sense of trust. The end result is exactly what we envisioned and I almost don't want to recommend them since we have too many other projects ;)

Wise Remodelers did a wonderful job finishing part of our basement. Thanks to them, we now have a beautiful sauna, bathroom, and laundry room. Most importantly, everything was thought out and planned properly, is done well and looks just like it should. Philip kept us informed of the project’s progress and communicated in a friendly and open manner. For example, to avoid problems in the future, Philip explained that ventilation and plumbing in the walls and ceiling surrounding the sauna needed to be rerouted to minimize any risk of humidity condensation. Details matter even in a big project! We’re thinking of finishing the rest of the basement. That will be our next project with Wise Remodelers.

Our kitchen remodel couldn't have turned out any better! We needed major updates to our space but wanted to honor the Craftsman charm (with a touch of Prairie School) in our beautiful old 1914 home. Phil's patient and collaborative approach paid off in the creation of a design plan that perfectly complements our home and creates new functionality, but without compromising the vintage aesthetics of the space. We'd actually talked with a few "designers" in the past but found their ideas fussy and impractical. Phil is the real deal, not many contractors can blend his knowledge of design with seamless execution. His crew was responsive, timely and very tidy! We're so pleased with the outcome. Next up: a bathroom!

I have lived in my small house for years already and have wanted to remodel it for some time but life was always too busy. The pandemic opened up both my time and imagination and I reached out to several local design & remodel businesses looking for someone who would partner and support me in my remodel dream, chose Wise Design and Remodel and am thrilled with the 'new' life of my old house! Wise Design was responsive and creative during the design and planning process, open to my ideas and then expanded and improved on them. It was a process I thoroughly enjoyed. Phil and his team did a great job renovating my Minneapolis industrial condo! It was my first time remodeling and he was very helpful with explanations and information about the process. Wise Design & Remodel recently redesigned and completely remodeled our kitchen and dining room area, and I can't say enough about how great Phil and his team are. From the first phone call, through the design phase, contracting, project management, construction, and close-out, Phil and his crew were incredibly attentive to us and our project. This was our first major remodeling project, and Phil did a great job of anticipating potential issues and communicating with us so we understood what to expect. Once the contract was set, the project stayed on budget and on schedule from start to finish. The project management software Phil uses keeps everything organized so that the homeowner has access to all relevant project information and updates on the schedule, timeline, and change orders. There you can view contracts, submit change orders, post photos, send messages, see the day to day schedule and much more. We found ourselves logging on there multiple times a week. Daily update phone calls were also very helpful and informative. The lead on-site manager is a fine craftsman. A job wasn’t done until it met his high standards. We had been intending to remodel our home for a number of years when we met Phil from Wise Design. Our renovation with Wise Design and Remodel included a complete kitchen gut, custom cabinets, new hardwoods throughout the main level, a refreshed mudroom and basement finishing work. We chose Wise Design and Remodel based on the creative options, experience and expertise provided by the owner, Phil Hide, to help us think about our space for both function and design. Phil guided us through each step in the process, understanding the importance of family-friendly (and pet-friendly) designs. He shared trade offs and realistic costs associated with the options and brought new ideas to the table (something other contractors we met with did not). I loved the ability to log into the BuilderTrend portal, which housed key documents, tracked schedules and project milestones, tracked to-do's and change orders, recorded key decisions, and allowed us to follow along with daily pictures. Phil was an expert project manager, with the project finishing ahead of schedule despite navigating the global pandemic. The overall level of project visibility was extremely helpful as we moved out during the remodel (we had planned to live through the remodel, but had a better temporary housing option across town). The crew and tradespeople were reliable, trustworthy, cleaned up after themselves and produced great quality work. We love our new space and cannot thank Wise Design and Remodel for creating a functional space our family and friends will enjoy for years to come! Phil and his team did an amazing job on our renovation. We gutted and redesigned our kitchen and living areas and this included removing walls to give us an open concept. Phil was patient and guiding through our design process, giving us ideas and pointing us in the right direction. What impressed me the most was his attention to detail and his team's cleanliness throughout the entire process. We hired Wise Design & Remodel to renovate our family home which I believed was built in the 1940’s. The house was so old that the bathrooms and the kitchen had to be gutted to bring them up to code. Anyway, we met Phil twice before the renovation to discuss the details then we took off for six months during which he kept us posted via email, text and FaceTime. He basically picked out most of the fixtures for us since we were not in Minneapolis. Phil is very knowledgeable, organized, accessible and punctual with the deadline. The end result is astonishingly impressive, like walking into a cover page of Architecture Digest.

From start to finish we were extremely impressed with Wise Design and Remodel. Phil and his team did a phenomenal job! We are so pleased that we selected them for our home improvement project. They were very personable and professional and the workmanship was unequalled. Phil was extremely organized and attentive to detail. Wise Design completed a remodel of our family room, including 3/4 bath. Now it's too nice to call a "basement," we refer to it as "the lower level." Philip listened carefully to what we wanted, made great suggestions, and brought in experienced craftspeople to complete the job. He made sure to add those craftsman-like touches to his design to make this a unique space. He personally managed the job from beginning to end (he and I hung the new big screen TV as a last step). He remained flexible throughout, and took adjustment and changes in stride. Recommended

When we were finally serious about remodeling our small outdated galley kitchen we met with several contractors. Phil listened to our needs and had us rethink the entire space. He was the one contractor that offered ideas that we never even had considered. And, when we told him we were considering updating our heating system, he offered good solutions on HVAC and installation that made the entire remodel workable. He designed a beautiful Kitchen that functions smoothly, offers more working counter tops and our storage space has more than doubled. When it was time to get to work he laid out a realistic schedule and budget so there were no surprises during the remodel. His contractors were very professional, and for the times we did experience some problems he handled them in a very professional and efficient manner. He communicated throughout the entire process paid attention to all the details and has a great sense of humor, which one needs when your house has been dismantled. We enjoyed working with Phil on our remodel and would definitely recommend Wise Design and Remodel.

We had lived with an incredibly dysfunctional and inefficient kitchen for about six years. The layout and positioning in the house was so awkward, I had a hard time imagining what could be done. We had other contractors visit and come up with limited ideas, in some cases suggesting very little change other than new cabinets. Phil was able to see possibilities in an awkward and confined space and transformed our kitchen, and thus our home, into a beautiful, highly functioning, space! We got more than what we imagined possible - great flow, more storage, natural light, creative use of materials and space…the list goes on. The entire process was seamless, in many cases things got done earlier than planned! Phil was incredibly responsive to our needs, questions, concerns etc. and facilitated consistent communication. His attention to detail is amazing, and just what anyone would want in a contractor. The subcontractors he worked with were all fabulous, timely, and kind. I absolutely recommend Wise Design!

We were recommended to Phil Hide by word of mouth thru our painter. We found him to be a very personable professional who took his time to get to know us before we started our project, turning an absolute wreck of a kitchen into a cozy place that reflected the charm of our older home. He gave us a kitchen that reflected our storage needs but was also ergonomically friendly. Importantly, there were no budget surprises and the work was finished in a timely manner. We found Phil to be a good listener and communicator throughout the project and someone who paid excellent attention to detail. He is a perfectionist and that only worked to our favor. From putting in a solid new floor that got rid of all the mouse holes to insulating the outside kitchen wall, he understands the need for a solid foundation to begin with and is not all about the glamour. We love our new quartz counters, though. He understood what we wanted and needed and we couldn't be happier cooking and baking in our new, lovely kitchen. In a word: Brilliant!

The custom cabinetry was very well done and Phillip's ability to listen to our needs and maximize our small space helped create a beautiful, yet very functional kitchen. When issues did come up, as they usually do, Phillip communicated right away and corrected them immediately. Everyone was very professional and personable throughout the process and we always knew where things were at as far as the schedule. For the past several months, Phil has managed an extensive corporate office building renovation in Lindstrom, MN. He and his contracting crews have been efficient, courteous, respectful and innovative while keeping mindful of the tight project costs and timeline. Phil's experience and ability to visualize a project is extremely helpful in understanding challenges and opportunities as the project has progressed. Communication regarding project scope, timing, and change order costs during the project was timely and comprehensive. The renovation project is in the final stages and has had very minor changes that were not discovered during the planning stage.
