About Us

For each client, I provide a full range of services that will lead you from our initial discussions about your dreams and goals for the project, design, and final occupancy. My professional services include a feasibility study, all project planning, design with 3D modeling, and construction administration. For every design project and business relationship, I strive for clear and thorough communication, inclusive collaboration between the client and the project team, creative and practical solutions and opportunities, and a hands-on approach to the entire project. My projects are diverse and include a mix of architectural and building types for both residential and small commercial work. I have considerable experience with historic preservation and adaptive reuse, retail, residential remodels, additions, new custom homes, as well as retail, office, and food/drink businesses. My design philosophy is grounded in sustainable and healthy environments, a contextual approach to your building site and neighborhood, and a commitment to balance the economic, environmental, and aesthetic aspects of each project. Sustainability in design integrates the building and site, is energy and resource-efficient, and ensures a healthy environment for its occupants.

Robert Saladoff is by far the best architect I have worked with in the Portland area. We have done a couple different projects together and I hope to do many more. He is very easy to work with, honest and upfront, very smart with every step of the project and easy to communicate with to find the best solution for each phase and scope on the project. His plans are always easy to work off of which is key to running a smooth job from start to finish. I recommend Rob to all of my potential clients who are in need of an architect. He is highly recommended.

Rob can spin straw into gold! He helped turn our cruddy basement into a beautiful living space. He considered all our ideas, spoke in laymen’s terms, knows the permitting process, cares about the work. He’s like a gentle trusted doctor, for your house.

I am the owner of a construction company in Southern Oregon that specializes in commercial buildings and custom homes. Rob was the architect on several projects I did in Ashland, Oregon - two of which were the Ashland Animal Hospital, and a custom home on Church Street. On both projects, I was impressed by his forethought in design, attention to detail, and the quality of materials his plans called for. His attention to the conservation of the site, as well as his focus on green building practices was a plus. From using recycled lumber and materials to calling out for in-floor heating on the house, it was evident that he believes in, and designs for, sustainable building. Working with Rob through each project was a very positive experience. I found his plans to be extremely detailed and easy to understand. His communication and accessibility were excellent. In closing, I'd say working with Rob is definitely a Five-star experience. Since he moved from Ashland to Portland he has surely been missed. When I think of Rob, the three words that first come to mind are patient, empathetic, and transparent. As first-time home renovators, we didn't know what we were getting into; Rob held our hands through the process with kindness and a commitment to doing right by his clients. And we were not always the easiest clients – at times we didn't know what we wanted, were slow to respond, or changed our minds partway through the design process. But if Rob was ever frustrated, he sure didn't let it show. Quite the opposite – he'd politely coax us along when we needed a push (probably a shove, TBH), make time to answer all our questions, and deftly offer his own expertise without overpowering our vision and ideas. I also so appreciated that he was quick to admit when he made an error or didn't know something; it would get corrected or researched promptly, and his honesty and transparency gave me even greater confidence in the end product. Finally, I appreciated his kindness. Rob was not just our architect, but a confidante and cheerleader during an unexpectedly trying and exhausting time in our lives. Ultimately we ended up with a beautiful new addition and a new friend to boot. Two thumbs up from this household.

We brought Rob on to help us draw up our plans, and do some design iteration for a remodel project that would see us completely gut our second floor, kitchen and a bathroom. He offered smart alternatives to our vision when required, and was very accommodating of our wishes. Rob was on top of the permitting process for us as well, which saved us lots of time in the overall project. The end project is exactly what we wanted, and we're fully satisfied with the work Rob did. We're working with him again to draft out a basement renovation and are excited to to see where we end up with that project!

Robert Saladoff designed my home in Ashland, Oregon, and did an excellent job. Although my home was new construction in a historic neighborhood, Rob designed a home that fit beautifully into its surroundings, and won an award from the City of Ashland's Historic Preservation Commission. He has an eye for details, and also is environmentally conscious. Rob was easy to work with, professional and conscientious. I highly recommend him.
