About Us

It all started with one goal, to give our clients a unique home or commercial space they absolutely love. Uniik Design was founded in 2013 with the focus in designing unique and timeless interior and exterior designs for homes and commercial spaces. We assist clients in designing their dream spaces for their new home builds, home renovations, or business/commercial space renovations. People spend an average of 87% of their life indoors and we believe these indoor spaces should be designed with purpose. Our mission is to collaborate with you and design a home or space that improves your quality of life. We believe interiors should reflect your personality, lifestyle, and brand. Throughout the years, we have experienced that most clients feel overwhelmed when it comes to a renovation or a new build and our goal is to eliminate that as much as possible. With 8 years of full experience in the industry, we have custom built a specific process for our clients to follow so they feel 100% confident and comfortable. Our purpose as your Interior Designer is to be a friendly liaison between you and the contractor so the design and building process is smooth and efficient. We want to walk alongside you every step of the way to make the project a stress free experience. We collaborate with you and take care of everything from vision to move in day! Over the 8 years we have expanded our team from a single designer to a larger team of unique visionaries who work across all design styles. We are deeply passionate, driven to enhance and transform spaces to fit our clients’ personalities, lifestyles, and brand. Who we are: Maria Rojas Principal Interior Designer B.A.I.D Maria Rojas is a graduate from the Bachelor of Applied Interior Design program at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. On impulse we bought a house on the perfect lot, in the perfect location, but the interior was circa 1978 complete with orange carpeting and sunken living room. We gutted the entire house and started our full home renovation with Uniik Design guiding us along the way. We found Maria to be an excellent and innovative designer who worked well with us and our contractor (Timber Wolff Designs). Maria listened carefully and studied our inspiration photos to understand our vision. Then she put her creative and ‘Uniik’ designs into a plan for us. Her 3D schematic drawings were excellent and helped us visualize our goal as the project progressed. Our contractor reported that the construction drawings were accurate, complete and among the best drawings they had worked with. When it came time to choose hard surfaces, finishes and furniture Maria met us at the showrooms to help us make our choices. She took the lead to give us our desired look and feel, while managing color, texture and the flow from room to room. While she was respectful of our preferences, she used her expertise to steer us in the right direction to achieve the look/function we were wishing for. We found Maria to be kind, generous with her time, and willing to discuss concerns and explore new ideas with us. Her confidently humble personality sets her apart from other designers that we interviewed, and her pricing was much more reasonable than many of her competitors. In fact, her economical referrals (eg. to have furniture custom-made) along with her designer’s discounts added up to very significant savings – enough to pay her fees!! So, we were able to build a ‘stellar’ home for about the same cost as building a ‘not-so-stellar’ home without her. We would never attempt another renovation without her help! We are convinced that Uniik Design has some of the best design talent in Calgary, and they are able to meet the design needs of their clients at a very reasonable price. We love our new one-of-a-kind home and are very proud to share it with our friends and family. Even as experienced renovators, we could not have achieved our dream home without them. Thank-you Maria and Uniik Design for giving us our forever home!! Stacy and Reg Wild

I don't think it is possible to speak too highly about Uniik Design. This was our first major renovation in our first house and it was a doozy. We wanted to redo our 1980's kitchen/sunroom/living room/dining room and had no idea where to start. My wife and I have very different styles which has often resulted in some scattered and often ugly layouts in small renovations. Uniik met with us and within 20 minutes, was recommending ideas that we both loved. Over the next little while we went back and forth sharing ideas, and by the time they started sending over floor plans, colors, and designs, we were floored with what they had created. Needless to say, we didn't have any revisions. As amazing as they were at molding our ideas together and creating a cohesive design, their true value came out as we worked with our sub-contractors to build the different aspect of our kitchen. They knew what questions to ask and when things would be worth the money vs. something that would not give us much value. Also, simply by working with them, they were able to get some special discounts with suppliers that more than paid for their cost! Even if this wasn't the case, hiring Uniik was the best money we spent on our renovation and we will be using them for all of our future renovations.

Our project was an extension and development combination renovation. Maria is the owner and primary designer for Uniik Design. Maria is an amazing interior designer. Her ability to listen to her clients and integrate their vision in a design that looks beautiful and functional. There where many occasions when we were stuck for ideas or we did not seem to know how to express our vision. Maria seems to know how to ask the right questions, and presents visual examples in order to get the design elements and style to make sense. Her ability to calmly handle difficulties during the project and always being there for the client was invaluable. Maria was very punctual with her design plans, material selections and appointments. She is patient and kind, thoughtful and creative. I will only use Uniik Designs for all my projects.

Recently moved to Calgary. We had the idea of redecorating the whole ground floor of an open concept with additional Four Season built on. It always pays to get a good designer who is attentive and understands your needs and wants. We sought out a designer and came across Uniik Designs. They provided us with colour paper designs of each room with photographic samples. Both Quinn and Maria helped us reach our goal of a modern /contemporary style including the purchase of all new furniture in entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen area and Four Season room, including selection of art work, area carpets and cushions and wall paper on feature walls. They also helped select gorgeous chandeliers and pendant lighting over the large kitchen island. They were very good at sourcing all furnishings and art work / accessories and area rugs. They have good access to suppliers for our needs. Here are some photos taken by us and does not do justice to see it in person. Thank you again Quinn and Maria. Highly, highly recommended. We were fortunate to get introduced to Maria and Uniik Design through our renovator, Kurmak Builders for a kitchen and main floor renovation. We cannot say enough about how amazing Maria and her team are and how much they helped us with our decision making. Maria guided us through the design and renovation of our kitchen and main floor with professionalism, ease and ultimately gave us the kitchen of our dreams. Maria and her team are client focused, detail oriented and creative. One of their strengths that set the apart is their listening and problem solving skills. They are very much client focused and are intent on the client’s aesthetic and not their own. We’ve had previous experiences where designers would talk us out of ideas that they thought couldn’t be done — Maria, in contrast, took the extra time and with a little research showed us that our ideas could be realized. We are so thrilled with the design and renovation and will definitely use Maria and Uniik Design for our future design projects.

Greg & Julie

Maria met with us in our house and quickly understood our wants and needs. She generated a complete set of drawings which allowed us to visualize and refine the final product; and, obtain accurate time and cost estimates from the contractor. Furthermore, she accompanied us to several supply houses and helped select finishes and fixtures. We found Maria to be very professional, easy to work with, honest and understanding. We are thrilled with our final renovation and would not hesitate to recommend her and Uniik Design Inc..

Kathleen & William Vandermark

Recently we had a main floor living area renovation which entailed living room, kitchen & dining area. The design included removal of walls with an open concept which Maria worked with us in terms of over-all design, cabinets, flooring and colours. We found Maria to be very sensitive to our conservative life-style, but at the same time knew when to push us out of our comfort zone for a new fresh look. We were always very satisfied and happy with all of the suggestions she made. Maria also supported our decisions. and was not scared to give her opinions when she felt there was a better solution.

We had the pleasure of meeting with Maria for a significant renovation of our home. Maria is kind and very easy to work with. She is prompt, reliable, provides professional and detailed construction drawings, and truly listens to her clients. Her ideas are thoughtful and constructive and she demonstrates sincere concern for her clients experience.

Maria assisted us with the renovation of our bungalow and was key in helping us navigate the many design issues this entailed. She encouraged us to recognize the limitations of our space, see its potential, and understand that ‘practical considerations’ had to be addressed. She incorporated many of our ideas and, in combination with her own insight, created a bright, modern updated main floor and basement bath. First, Maria helped us create a vision and then guided us through the decision-making process, greatly reducing the amount of time and stress such a process can entail. The time we spent with Maria was always productive and her pleasant bright personality made her a joy to work with. We utilized Maria’s experience to assess our own selections and, if they were not appropriate, never felt forced to agree with her first suggested alternative. Maria recommended a colour scheme, type of counter top, hardwood floor stain, plus door and fixture styles we would never have considered but are now so very glad we did. Maria effectively illuminated a path for us through a forest of renovation decisions. She will definitely be the first person we call for any future design work we need.

Maria is professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. While it took me several hours trying to make decisions on hardware, tile and such, it took Maria a little over an hour and all our decisions were made. Her designs are high end and so beautiful; we get many compliments while showing our home with new lighting, painted walls and bathroom ensuite. She also connected us with the right contactor for our budget. Overall we're extremely happy with our guided choices, service and quality of work performed. Maria saved us time and money. We're glad we hired her and you should too.
