Walker Architects

Walker Architects designed a condo for me. They created a living space that is both beautiful and functional and that reflects me and my tastes. They supervised my contractors and found many things that were not done to their standards and had them corrected. In addition, when a cabinet that was built for me on an outdoor patio began to fall apart after two years, they helped me win my case with the contractor, and the entire cabinet was rebuilt at no cost to me. I would enthusiastically recommend Walker Architects.

We used Ruhl Walker for the renovation of a 10+ year old condo in downtown Boston. They worked with us on all aspects of the project, from initial design to project completion. We also used them for decorative design consultation. We found them very professional and excellent designers with a keen eye for detail. They were responsive to our design ideas and worked with us to bring about a truly wonderful home. Brad Walker was our team leader and he was personally involved throughout the project. We have and will gladly recommend them to others.

We hired Ruhl Walker to renovate a loft in a brick and beam building circa 1900, which Brad Walker completed in May, 2016. Brad listened carefully to what we wanted and designed a beautiful interior that maintains the building's aesthetic while providing us with all the modern amenities. He has an excellent sense of design, color, and space and knows how to lay out a living space in an efficient but comfortable manner. He immediately saw what we needed, provided us with drawings, and began the project within weeks. He worked well with both us and our contractors, whom we vetted with his help. Most importantly, the final project came in on time and on budget. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

Ruhl Walker Architects did a fantastic job of designing and overseeing the build-out of my open, one-room 1400 square foot loft in Boston. The project presented many unusual obstacles such as uneven concrete floors, 20-foot ceilings, and round rooms with walls of windows. The Ruhl Walker team capitalized on these unusual circumstances and created a uniquely beautiful finished space with two bedrooms and two baths, including an amazing master bath with oversized tiled shower. In addition to creating a beautiful space, the team also did a tremendous job of interior decorating. All of this was accomplished within our agreed-upon budget and on time. I have to also comment that the team was amply supported by an impressive builder, Paquette & Associates, whose good nature was an unexpected positive experience for this home owner. In short, I highly recommend everyone who worked on my project!

We worked with Ruhl Walker on a massive overhaul of our 1886 house in Cambridge. The project involved redoing all the systems - plumbing, electrical, HVAC, the works - and doing an astounding quantity of general repairs, replastering and painting, and floor refinishing throughout, as well as significantly reconfiguring about 1/3 of the first floor to create a kitchen/great room with a wall of steel windows to the back yard, all while protecting and restoring original detail. (This required foundation work to shore up the footings below some enclosed porches, removal of a back staircase and an unused chimney that went up four stories from the basement, reframing the entire back of the house, and much, much more.) Ruhl Walker also planned further phases of the renovation, to be executed in future years (e.g., redoing the third floor). Despite the overwhelming scale of the project, which took nearly a year, I can say that we do not have a single bad thing to say about Ruhl Walker. We worked primarily with Brad Walker and Keith Case, and both are exceptionally smart, insightful, creative, professional, attentive, responsive, and just plain really good people. When things were difficult - as is inevitable on such a project - Brad and Keith were unfailingly calm and helpful, both making us feel like things would be okay, and finding solutions to make them so. Their design work was everything we could have asked for (and we asked for a lot), and their project stewardship was just indispensable. We give Ruhl Walker our highest, unqualified recommendation.

Ruhl Walker designed a loft for me in Massachusetts; it was a fabulous place but alas, I was transferred to Ohio very soon after it was completed. Not to be denied the joy of living in the space they designed, I hired them AGAIN - this time to turn the 1980's vintage house I purchased in Ohio into something great.
