Karen is a talented, passionate and committed visual artist and art professional. She's very thorough, always thinks two steps ahead, and is able to adapt to various work environments. Karen is also very responsive and a great communicator. She has been an absolute pleasure to work with and her professional, positive and warm nature is a refreshing presence in the contemporary art world!

Karen's work is...ethereal, spiritual, and moving, yet calming. She is deeply creative and that depth can not only be seen but also felt when looking at her work. I had been looking for the perfect art piece for a very selective client, and when I presented Karen's painting, "Lake of Light", the room came alive and the client absolutely loved and purchased. I have worked with Karen Fitzgerald on several projects over the years and I could not recommend a more professional, creative artist. Karen’s work is beautiful, unique and inspirational, and she is an expert in providing the “right fit” for her clients’ art needs. Karen Fitzgerald’s canvas shape and use of materials sets her painting style apart from other artists. Her use of gold and silver leaf combined with oils creates a luminous affect on the canvas. The placement of boats, flowers and other objects on top of this surface brings an otherworldly dimension to everyday subject matter. We had the pleasure of working with Karen in Spring 2014, when she exhibited in our “Second Nature: Beauty in the Ordinary” show held at transFORM’s New Rochelle Showroom. Her work then moved down to our NYC Showroom where her glorious piece “Dahlia” graced the entrance of our showroom for several months. Not only is Karen a gifted artist but a wonderful person to work with as well.

I am a contemporary artist that also collects exceptional art works to surround myself with lots of inspiration. I only collect two contemporary artist work Karen Fitzgerald and Judith Motzkin. I believe both have taken their individual disciplines to the highest level of artistic standards. I also have the good fortune to have known Karen since 1976 when we attended college together at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She has always had an incredible work ethic and a passion for her work that dwarfs most artist I know (self included) when compared side by side to Karen. She is a gifted painter of the highest order and she has spent years creating her own visual language which is very exciting for the viewer. Looking at one of her gilded works is like watching a camp fire burning and like a camp fire it is hard to keep your eyes away from the ever changing light of the flames Karen has created in her tondo space. Karen is also uncompromising when it comes to her search for the truth with her visual arts talents and with the quality of her work. I know many working artist, and Karen is at the top of the spectrum when it comes to expressing a visual thought or a poem in her work. At this point in her career everything she puts her artistic efforts into is a master work of painting, and I would easily compare her work to Mark Rothko in a tondo format. Yet, she has moved beyond Rothko, especially in her more recent gilded work. The surface of the painting changes in the light of a room or the time of day. This new dimension in contemporary painting is done with such grace and delegacy that the metal surfaces blend into the colors and they harmonize perfectly. This is not an easy task since using gilding and paint has a high potential to appear over done or just not believable. Again, I am an artist and I know how far Karen has moved the bench mark in contemporary painting, I am also a collector of art, and I only collect work that is exceptional to make my life richer. I am happy to say I have 5 of her works including a water color from our undergraduate days. Her work blends into all surroundings well and the work has a never ending story to tell me the viewer. Her use of gilding creates light that articulates her wonderful use of space and time. Time is a hard subject for a painting to capture, but with her every changing appearance of these reflective surfaces creates a work of art that travels through time. I believe the power of her work speaks for itself. But, what is so wonderful is that the work so easily fits into our eclectic interior design with no problems. I would highly recommend Karen and her work to any interior designer because it is so compatible with most interiors. I would also recommend her work as some of the strongest contemporary painting in today's market which is flooded by so much mediocre work. Karen and her works are the real thing. Both from an art historical point of view as well as a quality view Karen's work is far ahead of the crowd on the Art World stage.

Not only is Karen an inspiring artist with a clear vision and a firmly rooted mastery of her artistic skills, but she is a joy to work with. Her communication, follow-through, and light-heartedness facilitate clear discussions, so I can align with her viewpoint. I highly recommend working with her.
