Black Turtle Builders

Black Turtle Builders did a stunning job renovating the master bath and guest bath in our mid century modern home. Watts Humphrey and his team did a masterful job in all phases of the project - design and space planning, selection of materials, demolition, and construction. We couldn't be more thrilled with our 2 new, beautiful spa-like bathrooms. I would recommend them for any remodeling project.

We engaged Black Turtle Builders, Inc. in July 2013 to renovate our beachfront condo in Venice, Florida that was built in 1973. We purchased the condo with the plan to do a complete renovation. We obtained three estimates from different contractors and eventually selected Black Turtle Builders, Inc. because they were the lowest estimate, but in addition we felt comfortable with the owner of the company, Watts Humphrey, sensing that he was not only competent but honest as well. Our sense about Mr. Humphrey's qualities were proved true by his performance in completing the work to our complete satisfaction. It required us to work closely with him in completing the drawings for the new floor plan as well as picking out all the tiles, granite, appliances, and all other decisions that go into the completion of a total renovation. The work consisted of tearing out all the existing kitchen and bathrooms cabinets, sinks, showers, flooring and removing all the debris. After the tear out was completed they redid the ceiling to cover the popcorn style to a smooth textured style as well as lowering it sufficiently to allow wiring to be installed for light fixtures and fans. The next phase was to install ceramic flooring tile throughout the condo in all the spaces including the lanai. The two bathrooms were completely remodeled with new showers, sinks and toilets. The master bedroom was completely remodeled including a walk-in closet and the guest bedroom was likewise remodeled including adding a closet. The kitchen, dinning room and living room were also completely remodeled including new appliances. All the work was excellent and we were more than completely satisfied with the quality of the work that was done for us. We would be happy to engage Black Turtle Builders, Inc. .again if we were to have the need for their services in the future.

As an Architect, a great working relationship with the General Contractor is key. Working as a collaborative effort to make sure the client gets what they want not only aesthetically but in terms of quality, budget and schedule is the best for all parties involved. I had the pleasure of working with Black Turtle Builders on several projects of different type, scale and budget. Black Turtle Builders take pride in every project they are involved providing expertise and professionalism, I look forward to working with them again.

Work Completed: Major renovation of 1969 vintage Single Story Home on LBK. Reworked floor plan, updated one bathrooms, moved one bathroom, and added a third bathroom. Rebuilt drainage pipes and re-piped Hot/Cold water pipes through attic of house. Remodeled Kitchen. Installed new floor tile throughout house. Installed several new windows and doors. Review: Builder was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the project. Builder's training as an engineer very helpful for planning and completion of project. This builder is very detailed and created a "scope of work" and drawing's that helped frame the project and minimized changes. Builder was accessible and reachable by phone as I was not always local during project work. Sub-contractors used were also skilled and professional. Suggested suppliers for Kitchen remodel and tile and for plumbing products were all knowledgeable and had large selection of styles/products to chose from. The projects initial timeframe was exceeded by 30-45 days but the tradeoff in high quality work was worth it. Builder's followup on "punch list" after renovation completion was timely and well done. Builders willingness to fix, at his cost, several minor problems that occurred several years after completion of work showed pride in/commitment to "warranty" his work.
