I rarely write reviews, but wanted to share our experience to warn anyone considering this company. We hired Element Home Remodeling in 2020 for a remodel of our kitchen, with an attached deck, pergola, and retaining walls. Our project started well, but progressively deteriorated into a living nightmare.
We later discovered that most of their online reviews have been faked in an attempt to inflate their reputation. Many reviewers describe projects which never occurred (based on building permit records search, some include stock photos) but are acknowledged by the owner as if they were real customers. Their reference turned out to be a friend rather than an actual customer. They also appear to rent their RMO license from a retired contractor in Southern California who was not involved in our project. These guys are running a scam and I advise others to steer clear.
We chose this company because they were well reviewed, responsive, and represented themselves as having the staff and experience to complete our job quickly and competently. We eventually learned they were a small, inexperienced, and deceptive operation who were in over their heads and struggled their way through our project. There were serious problems with the quality of their work, they caused substantial damage to our property, were arrogant and unprofessional, and failed to properly supervise their workers.
After we signed a build contract in early July, the tone and responsiveness started to change. They began demolition a few weeks later, confident that they would quickly obtain permits, but badly misjudged this and required 3 rounds of review and nearly 3 months before the permits were approved by the city. This was mid-pandemic, so we dismissed our concerns. However, after work started in late October, they caused significant property damage with a tractor, began antagonizing our neighbors, and attempted to shake us down for more money.
They left a 10 foot hole in the side of our house completely open to the elements for more than a week and rushed to complete the kitchen remodel on the schedule they had proposed. They treated our driveway like a garbage dump, smoked inside our house, and used our kitchen knives as box cutters.
After the kitchen was completed, we began to find serious problems with their work. While the owner made meager attempts to correct some issues, he tried to shift blame and demanded payment on a different schedule than we had agreed. On Christmas day, we had rain water running down our living room and kitchen walls. This happened a total of 3 times through early January, as the contractor repeatedly failed to cover roof penetrations.
After they left the job, we had their work independently inspected and discovered even more significant issues with their workmanship. We have spent more than $80k (so far) repairing their damage and defective work, and are currently engaged in legal action.
