We have had nothing but trouble with getting quality work completed in a timely manner. They do not honor their commitments and there have been continued cost increases throughout the project that started in late March and has yet to be completed in late July. This project was originally quoted to be completed in 6 weeks. They even made me pay more for solid core doors only to install hollow doors. I have had to work with subcontractors on my own because they have had a lot of attrition of their PMs, some of which were ineffective at project management. I don't understand what I'm paying this company for when I'm effectively managing the project myself. We were promised white glove service of not having to work with contractors directly and it has not been our experience at all. They have no respect for those that work from home and constantly require last minute contact which has been extremely disruptive to my job. In my vast experience, I have worked with countless contractors across our 3 properties and none of them have been this unprofessional and lack this much integrity. I caution you to stay far away from Elkstone as they have been a complete headache to us for months now. They will leave you with shoddy and sloppy work and will not honor their warranty. They are not to be trusted as they will not fix anything without extreme resistance and a fight.

Wish I could have had a better experience. Was really looking forward to getting my basement done and having an amazing space to enjoy. Not the case.

I hired Elkstone to finish my basement (about 1700 square feet) in March 2016, so this review is a bit late but can speak to the longer term quality of Elkstone's work. They were very responsive, quick to answer questions that I had, and willing to make a number of changes to the proposed floorplan. Their personnel had some very good--and stylish--recommendations on how to obscure overhead venting, pipes, and a radon mitigation pipe. They worked closely with local suppliers to match my existing house's trim, wall colors, and design motifs. You cannot tell that it was added four years after the house's build date! It's now been three years, and I have had zero problems with any of Elkstone's work. They use quality materials and employed quick, reliable personnel who clearly had the expertise needed to get the job done and done correctly. There are two areas that I feel the prospective client should be aware of prior to hiring Elkstone. Neither of them are reasons not to hire them, but just some minor inconveniences that I encountered. First, if you choose to use another supplier or subcontractor for an aspect of the work (I decided to use Costco for carpet instead of Elkstone's contractor), you will need to be there and coordinate that work. I assumed the Elkstone project manager would be there to let in the carpet guys, but that didn't happen. Second, their overall electrical engineer had some definite ideas about what he wanted in terms of lighting. I had to argue with him to get what I wanted when what I wanted went against what he felt should happen. The man was an expert in his field, and the quality of the electrical work was fantastic; he just was a bit stubborn at times if he didn't like what you wanted to do. In the end he did do what I wanted. This was three years ago, so the gentleman may not even be there anymore. Again, neither of my cautions are reasons to avoid Elkstone. They were very competitive in their pricing (indeed, about $15000 less than another bid for a very similar floor plan), their workmanship is fantastic, and they were a joy to work with. I heartily recommend them to anyone looking for basement finishing services.

When we initially called Elkstone, I was sure they would be the most expensive. We had them come out for a free quote as well as company that is owned by someone in our neighborhood. Steve was our salesman. He asked what we were envisioning and what ideas we had. He gave us an idea that we hadn’t even thought of. It was brilliant and utilized the space beautifully. After a couple weeks, we received the quote from the other company via email. They didn’t break out the cost for each item nor explain what they were even going to be installing (carpet/tile/etc). They were WAY over our budget. This made me extremely nervous. Steve came back out and went over all the costs, showed us a 3D model, explained the VCCs, and explained exactly what was going to happen. I couldn’t believe how nice everything was going to be. This made me even more nervous for the price. He showed us how much it would all cost. It WAS in our budget, even with the VCCs! I was so excited! He said to think it over and let him know when we made a final decision. As soon as he walked out our door, my husband and I said we were going with them. Construction started very soon after. Our PM was Brandon and he was very helpful. Any questions or issues we had, he handled it. Construction was slated to take 5 weeks (with a 1 week break over Christmas), so 6 weeks total. There were a few things that came up along the way, but Elkstone took care of it and made sure we were happy. Our basement has been completed for over a month now and we absolutely love it. We only have around 590 finished square feet but our friends think it’s larger than that because the space has been utilized so efficiently. We will always recommend Elkstone to anyone that is looking to finish their basement. Thanks again!

We met with 4 contractors for our basement project. ElkStone was recommended by a friend and we are so happy we decided to have them finish our basement. We were impressed with the thought of a 5 week project, we were a little skeptical that it could be done that fast, but that was the biggest factor in choosing them. Not only was every single employee friendly, knowledgeable and professional, all of the contractors that they used were also. Our finished basement looks better than we anticipated and they were on time, even with a few hiccups along the way. I cannot recommend them enough!

We had our basement finished by ElkStone a few months ago and absolutely love the end product. They made every step of the process easy and enjoyable. Our project manager, Kendra Runung, was the best! I would highly recommend ElkStone to anyone thinking of finishing their basement.

My wife and I contacted Elkstone for a basement finish. We found the entire process to be professional and friendly. All of the contractors that arrived for work on the project we top notch! We're very happy with the design and our space!

Pros - Reasonable cost, didn't charge for a couple of code/company standard features not included the original estimate, good design Cons - Went 2 weeks past scheduled completion date, unnecessary/unattractive cuts into brick for egress window, had to pay for a sewer line locate after they could not locate during construction Overall good experience compared to another basement finishing company I had hired for a prior our previous house for a basement remodel (that company is no longer in business) I do think that they have a decent model to complete basement finishing on time, but there were several days without any progress any time a subcontractor did not meet scheduled dates which put the overall project behind. I do like their itemized pricing and most of the cost was reasonable. They did resolve the issues to my basic satisfaction.

Elkstone just completed our basement. We had a bedroom, bathroom and wet bar installed. David and Justin were my contacts and were great. They were very responsive and finished on time.

Elkstone just finished completely renovating our basement. From start to finish, this company was wonderful. Our project manager/foreman, Phil Walton hands down is the best we have ever worked with on a project. He is a "yes" man and strives to keep you well informed and happy. Not only did they finish our job with beautiful craftsmanship but they also finished on time! Phil came by every single day to ensure things were running smoothly and we were happy. He certainly knows how to run a group of contractors. No delays, all workers were respectful and professional. They did a great job at adjusting things when we changed our minds on materials, design, etc. We really appreciate how nice they were to work with on this project. They truly understand that it was our home and did what they could to make us happy. They worked with us to upgrade some features and save money on others. I would recommend them to anyone who asks for a basement refinishing company.

Elkstone did a fantastic job finishing my basement! The entire process went great; from design through final walk-through and the results were beautiful. We considered several other contractors to finish our basement, but Elkstone was a clear choice and one I'm glad we made. Randy, our salesman/designer was very patient with me as we went through several iterations of the final floor plan and Phil, our project manager during construction, was the best. He was there every day to make sure things were staying on schedule and being done to my satisfaction. If there was a delay in some step of construction, he was quick to communicate with me and let me know how they were going to mitigate it. I highly recommend Elkstone Homes to anyone wanting to finish their basement. You will not be disappointed!

You need more than 5 stars! Absolutely excellent job! I have nothing to say but positives for every aspect of the project. From the first contact with Dave, to the last day with Phil. Everyone was professional and did exactly what they said they would do. ** Phil is one of the best GM's I have worked with in many a year. He is not only a great guy, but is on top of every step of the process and communicates well. He is timely in every thing he does. * All the trades were here on time each and every day. All were very receptive to my concerns and/or changes. * Materials were handled well and waste was dealt with appropriately. * All vendors were also easy to work with during deliveries. * Control of dust and dirt is always a challenge and I think they do the best they can. This is always one of my concerns, but thats just me. * The printed schedule was right on. Good layout and timing for each phase. Again, Great Job and I will do my best to promote your company whenever I can.
