I hired JG Michaels to finish my basement and renovate my den - to create more useable space for my growing family, which now includes 3 kids and a dog. Several people we know have used them in the past and I've seen their work posted on FB. Based on references from our friends, we knew they wouldn't be the cheapest option but people were quick to point out that, especially in home renovation, you get what you pay for - or more like, you don't get what you don't pay for. After meeting with Michael and Jay, we were impressed with their knowledge of the ins and outs of home improvement and appreciated several of their suggestions on how to best make use of our renovated space. We were sold. They were on time every morning and communicated very efficiently through calls/emails/texts, whichever was the most appropriate method. They answered all of our many questions and made sure we thoroughly understood all the answers they gave us. They also took time to join us in the exhausting search for materials (tiles, cabinets, faucets, etc.,) whenever it was possible in their schedule and helped me keep in mind the re-sale value of the the things we purchased for the renovation - I may love that super expensive floor tile, but I most likely will not see that money back if we ever sell the house. They were able to offer more budget-friendly options for things we absolutely loved but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on. Also, I've heard from other friends who had work done in their homes, that any time you amend the contract, even slightly, the contractor will charge you exorbitantly for the adjustment. I didn't get that experience with JG Michaels. There were times that charges were added to my original contract, but they were all things that were fair (updating an old breaker box in order to support the new electrical wiring, repainting a room after I decided I didn't like the color). Michael worked with me extensively before we started to really understand what I wanted out of the renovation work, and by doing so, most of the details we hammered out in the beginning didn't need to get changed. Also, they were upfront about all the costs involved and provided us with receipts for our records. Aside from enjoying working with them, their actual work was beautiful. They were very meticulous about every detail and took lots of pictures throughout the process to show us the progress. We are so happy with the end result. Everyone oohs and aahs at our new spaces. I appreciated their professionalism and workmanship so much that before my basement and den were done, I also hired them to do work on updating my living room and bedroom. Bottom line, even though we were originally considering going with a cheaper contractor, we were so glad we used JG Michaels instead. We could actually count of these guys to show up every day, work hard every minute they were here, treat our home with respect and finish the project within a timely fashion. The value of their work exceeded what we paid for.
