I was reluctant to start building an ADU after hearing so many horror stories but Dan McDunn was so easy to work with, so reliable, and so consistently on time and on budget (how often does that happen?) and did a beautiful job. We sailed through all the inspections and paperwork. Dan supervised a crew of experienced and totally capable and accommodating workmen. There were no mistakes, no delays, no problems. He always answered my questions right away. And beyond that, he has excellent taste. Work with Dan--you will not be disappointed.

I have worked as the interior designer with Dan on two projects in Berkeley so far, and have found his work to be excellent. Dan McDunn of McDunn ADUs and his supporting crews did an outstanding job of converting my partially remodelled garage into a beautiful, light-filled studio. For a variety of reasons, my earlier attempts never quite got off the ground. Dan broke the project down into manageable steps within a clear timeframe, and it worked. I now have a lovely, but practical, studio that should serve my family's needs for years to come. I also found Dan to be an excellent communicator and fun to work with. My dog Sam misses him very much.

Our experience working with Dan McDunn was excellent. Our project was on a challenging site, with a very steep hill and limited street access. Dan and his team were fantastic partners in bringing our ADU vision to life. Dan is that rare find: a kindhearted business owner, easy to work with, who offers a special combination of skilled craft and tasteful visual sense: he offered trusted advice when I became overwhelmed with decisions (colors, materials). Dan McDunn and his crew just completed a fence project at our house in El Cerrito, and we couldn't be happier with it. The job was started by a different builder who offered us an enticingly low bid, but after a few weeks of slow to no progress, more than one misinterpretation of the building plans, and a less-than-professional work crew, we realized we had gotten exactly what we paid for, and ended that relationship. On the recommendation of Alex Bergtraun of Studio Bergtraun (the designer of the fence - also highly recommended!) we hired Dan to complete the roughly 80% of work that remained. He reviewed the plans, communicated with the designer and the property surveyor to ensure everybody was on the same page, and got to work. Dan is very professional, friendly, and easy to communicate with. He was onsite whenever his presence was required, and otherwise left the day-to-day to his capable and professional crew. We'll definitely get in touch with Dan when we're ready to start our next project.

Dan McDunn of McDunn ADUs is a reliable, adaptive and highly skilled contractor. Approximately six months ago I hired him to build out an existing structure behind my house to bring it up to both legal and aesthetic standards to rent to prospective tenants. Throughout the project Dan was always available to discuss any questions I had and never failed to provide a detailed analysis of possible options along with his recommendations. He also quickly adjusted project goals and timelines as priorities shifted or additional requests from myself or the city arose. His employees were professional and very respectful of my property and always left the space tidy and organized. This was incredibly important to me given that I have two small dogs that also use the back-yard space. Dan was also very kind and easy to talk to which are characteristics that are priceless in my opinion. The final result was absolutely stunning and perfectly up to city and county code. In fact, I was able to rent the property within weeks of posting it and received many compliments from all those that viewed it. I would highly recommend hiring Dan McDunn and McDunn ADUs for all your ADU construction needs.

Dan did exactly what I wanted and more. He built a glass fusing studio for me. I am really happy with it. His suggestions were great. He adapted readily to what I needed. He is an excellent contractor to work with. All of his employees are very skillful at the specific task that they do. His subcontractors were great, especially the fellow who finished the cement floor. It is perfectly level for my kiln. He is expensive, but worth every penny.

Working with McDunn construction on a 670sq.ft small house ( ADU ) was a pleasure. McDunn construction workers were total professionals, the process was seemless .With regular meetings, Dan anticipated my questions, made sensible suggestions, kept us current on costs, possible upgrades and just good advice. We now have a beautiful Jewel of a house that is well built and a joy to look at. I would highly recommend McDunn construction for any building project now or in the future. We have received a lot of amazing publicity about this small house and have McDunn construction to thank for their superb work.

dan mcdunn is a rockstar. this man did everything he said he would do and did it on time and at high quality. i am looking for more projects to do now that i know dan. can't recommend him enough. solid guy. solid work. you won't be disappointed.

Dan McDunn built my new ADU in North Berkeley, and I can't recommend him highly enough.
