I hired Nest Inc. Fine Interior Contracting ("Nest") for a full gut renovation of my 1-bedroom NYC apartment under a fixed-price contract, with an estimated completion timeline of 12-16 weeks. The project started around April 1, 2025. The project remains incomplete. Nest collected over 70% of the contract price within the first six weeks of commencement of the project — the work completed did not correspond to the payments made. In multiple instances, work stopped for extended periods. Despite having already collected the substantial majority of the contract price within six weeks of commencement, Nest continued to pressure me for additional funds throughout the project. This pattern of collecting substantial payments with minimal or no corresponding work was most starkly evidenced in Fall 2025, when I made payments totaling $21,000, which was followed by effectively a single day's work on the property over a six-week period. Nest charged me for additional work orders after the fact that I dispute as outside the scope of what was legitimately billable under the fixed-price contract. I was also charged for additional work orders I did not sign off on. When asked to explain their pricing, their stated reason was that it was difficult to provide. In one instance, in the Fall of 2025, Nest demanded full advance payment — 100% — for vendor work while the substantial majority of the work remained undelivered. That work did not substantively commence until January 2026. After I issued a formal written demand letter detailing these and other concerns, Nest did not substantively respond. Two days after I sent my demand letter, building staff notified me that Nest personnel entered my premises — without any prior notification or consent — to remove their tools and equipment. Nest subsequently filed a mechanic's lien against my property. After the lien was filed, I was later notified by my building superintendent that Nest attempted to access my property -- again -- without contacting me directly. In response to the filed lien, I served Nest a formal demand requiring a verified itemized statement of the lien. I had also served Nest an accounting demand as part of my demand letter. Both demands went unanswered. I do not recommend Nest. [I am inputting a project completion date of July 2026 because Houzz does not let me choose an "incomplete" option. The project remains incomplete.]

I had a very positive experience working with NEST for a home renovation project, and I highly recommend this business. My home is in a historic brownstone building with lots of quirks, and Mike, Ben and Steve, the NEST contractor team, took immense care to preserve the integrity of the building while dramatically improving my living space. When we ran into the inevitable snag, they had impressive problem-solving abilities were able to come up with good solutions every time. When they noticed some additional add-ons to the originally planned work, they suggested them without ever giving me the hard sell. They had great ideas and design sensibilities. Every single person who worked with them (including the subcontractors they brought along) was kind, punctual, hard-working and skilled. I would also like to add that Mike, Ben and Steve are great to work with, they are really communicative and thoughtful. I honestly don't have a single complaint!

For the past year we have been carefully planning a renovation of our kitchen. After a thorough vetting process we decided to go with Nest after they pitched us their design ideas. We couldn't feel more fortunate that we did. Renovations in the current climate are extremely fraught. Community and city rules can be draconian and supply chain issues can snarl the best laid plans. Through it all the incredible staff at Nest performed above and beyond. We worked with Steve initially who walked us through the design phase and helped us navigate the gauntlet of approvals and permits we needed to move forward. At every turn Steve and Mimoza received our ideas with thoughtful consideration and an open mind. The design we landed on perfectly combined our needs and wants with their beautiful aesthetic. Once we were able to move forward with the project, we worked with Mike who was exceptional. He guided the project with a steady hand and an eye towards the small details. No concern or issue was too small and Mike took it upon himself to ensure that quality was maintained at every turn. I cannot stress enough how impressed I was with Mike, Flavio and their team. Not only did they work tirelessly to solve every issue we experienced, but did so we a kindness and patience that was truly appreciated. When issues came up they were quick to report them and we were able to put our heads together to arrive at solutions that worked for all parties involved. Additionally, we have two small children which further complicated the renovation process. However, the team at Nest were beyond respectful of the needs of our family. To be able to juggle our needs as well as the logistical difficulties of every team that needed access to our kitchen showed a level of communication and organization that should not be glossed over. The final product that we have been left with is nothing short of breathtaking. It is exactly what we wanted in a kitchen and far more beautiful than anything we could have imagined. It has completely changed the character of our apartment and has given us the functionality we have always dreamed of. I cannot recommend Nest enough for your future home improvement project.

We can’t speak highly enough about the Nest team. Their attention to detail and unwavering dedication to providing the best final product is rare in New York City. The entire team is professional and caring, and is always focused on delivering a product that we will be happy with for 20+ years. They never once took a short cut or skimped on quality even with the difficulties the industry is facing obtaining supplies and labor. Nest is hands down the best partner for a project that anyone could ask for!!

Nest did a total renovation of most of our house in NYC, down to the studs and subfloors, including electrical and a new staircase. This was our 3rd project with them. They worked 6 days a week for 4 months and took great care with every little detail. One example: they counted the number of sandpaper passes to the edges of the new stairs so that they would be smooth enough to go up and down barefoot but still provide enough traction. They kept to the original deadline even as we faced the materials shortages of 2021 and the unexpected things one invariably finds when opening walls in an old house. We gave them 4 stars for affordability above just because it is possible to find cheaper contractors in absolute terms, but Nest's quality and reliability deserve 6. The whole team is a pleasure to work with: they are polite, reliable, careful, and clean. We felt that they were invested in our house and the improvements they were doing. The result is beautiful!

The team worked tirelessly until we achieved perfection and I am in love with my new kitchen. Steve was easy to work with, responsive, communicative, and really understood me and what I was looking for. I can’t wait for us to work on the other projects in my house!

As an interior designer, I’ve had the pleasure of working on a lot of jobs with Nest Inc, over the past 4 years. An excellent team, characterized by top-notch work executed with laser like precision, they are perfectionists with a superb eye for detail. In a field with a reputation for over-promising and under-delivering, they are professionals who deliver what they promise. Renovations are inherently stressful, but Nest Inc is masterful at managing the process to make it as seamless and easy as possible for their clients. Faced with the inevitable surprises that always crop up in construction, they are nimble thinkers who find resourceful solutions to problems. The entire team, ably headed by principal/ Designer Steve, is wonderful to work with. Consummate pros, they are organized not only with regard to actual construction, but with the back-office operations. Their paperwork, which is thorough, easy to understand, and transparent, is devoid of surprises. As a designer, when we recommend a contractor to our clients, we put our own reputation on the line. That’s why I always look forward to the opportunity to work with Nest Inc, they always have my back and they deliver a finished product that both my clients and I love. Highly recommended. The Nest team is professional, responsive, and did high quality work in our apartment. They took on a renovation of our apartment, which included: - powder room reno - full bathroom reno - bedroom reno (closed off a door, new closet creation) The crews are managed efficiently by Mike and they handled our apartment with great care. Steve has a good vision and was very helpful with some of the aesthetic choices and functionality required. Their whole team is pleasant/positive and was enjoyable having them around in your home setting. Trustworthy group. When we had questions and follow-ups at the end of the project, Steve, Mike and team were very responsive and helpful. We would love to work with them again.

When we bought our first apartment and knew that we had to do some work, we weren't sure how the process would go. NYC is known for its horror stories about contractors. Luckily, a friend recommended that we reach out to Nest and we are so glad we did! From defining the project scope to getting the (onerous!) amount of paperwork AND the board approval of our project, Steve's positive and professional attitude made all the difference. The project, once started, was done with utmost professionalism and care - everybody on the project team, without a single exception demonstrated the same level of care to our apartment. - they really worked to make sure that we were happy with the choices we were making (not to mention patient!) and that we were happy with the results. At times it almost felt like the Nest team was our family, getting us ready to move in to our first apartment, with the same excitement and enthusiasm that one's family would be. The project was completed on budget and earlier than we had planned - what more could we have asked for? This was our first time we worked with a contractor, and we are so lucky that we worked with such a great team. Couldn't recommend them enough!

Working with Nest was about the easiest thing I've ever had to do. From the start of the project, they were responsive, enthusiastic, timely, communicative, excitable, and solution-oriented. I was never worried about any issues that may arise because they were on top of it. The ideas they brought to the table made my home beautiful and they transformed my space into something I don't think I could have ever envisioned by myself. The entire team showed up on time every single day and were beyond kind to both me and my dog! They always had a smile on their face, were clean, and helped me move everything around my house (since I lived there during the renovation). The entire process was seamless and even with Covid delays, they made sure to keep me in the loop on any timing changes, any issues, etc and were always available to answer my questions.

We contacted Steve and Nest Inc. to help redesign a 2nd bedroom that had a very odd design and needed help to get the room ready for our new baby. Steve was was ultra-responsive and super helpful right away. We met with several other contractors, and Steve was the most straightforward and also had a very clear design vision and sense. With Steven you're not hiring "a pair of hands" but an artist who understands design theory but can also put it into practice! Steven very quickly worked with us to create a comprehensive plan for the closet and further improved the room by fixing a wall and helping us find a wonderful heater grate. In the next stage of our renovation was when Steven really showed his experience. Our building had a very unprofessional and unresponsive building manager and Steve helped us navigate dealing with the individual and gave us incredible support through a very challenging process. Once the job was finally approved, Steve and Nest Inc. completed the job on time and on schedule and giving us a new room that has exceeded all expectations.
