reno an inherited home, started with an addition, 2 car garage. one of the main issues with the house were the steep steps, when we had a meeti g and I asked Bob about the desing changes for the steps he said "I'm not sure" . This was one of the major issues we wanted resolved in the home! The 2 car garage was 65,000. ridiculous! My husband was just diag with a major illness. So we backed off on the addition and garage not knowingwhat the future holds. Wrong cabinets delivered and put up. Everything seemed to be a change order which meant more money. Because we cut back it was obvious that the focus was not on us. They have workers who have other jobs while they are working on mine. New wood kit floor installed was told they would find a color that best matched, well they didn't ask us which color we liked. One day it was just stained. doesnt match ,more orange, than exist ajoining floor, was afraid that would be a change order too. Some areas have bubbles in the finish, and some areas look more satin and others look glossy. Additionally there are larger spaces that have developed within the boards it was installed 1 year ago. Outside they capped the existing windows and door jams, caulk is missing, and the back storm door wasnt closing from the capping, Eric said you need a new door and would cost more money, that happened often. We werent living there at the time so he didnt clean up unless Bob and Joanne were coming to meet me and see the progress. Every week they expeceted money but when i questioned him about issues with whatever was going on I was advised it would be fixed later. kitchen design was confusing started with one person then was passed off to a woman who was rushing and yelling at me about a cabinet design. corner cabinet once installed could not be pulled out because the stove was
in the way. We purchased all new stainless appliances the microwave was scratched, when i contacted the builders i was told that Eric should have told me.
tried to replace the microwave door. 2 appliance repair men ,cabinet removal 1 builder from Tilghmans and I lost 2work days later we got a new microwave.
Lock box was missing when asked i was told Eric has the key and needed the box for another job. We just wanted the key,was told the cleaning people had it.
Cleaning people show up and we were moving stuff in asked for the key they didnt have it. Called Eric, he left it outside under a rock. never trusted this guy! I want to be honest we still owe them money 1700. ,but we had someone out to look at the floor its going to cost more than that to repair it, and I dont want them anywhere near our home. I would not recommend them ever, and didnt trust Eric!!

We are finishing a screened porch remodel with Tilghman Builders now. The overall work product is good. Bob was very timely getting the project started and doing estimates. After that we did not see him until it was time to pick up the final payments. Toni is his project manager and he became more difficult over time especially taking responsibility for a few things that were damaged and delays during construction. We still have small details that aren’t right after sending detailed videos of issues needing completion. We will definitely enjoy our porch but not without frustration getting to the end.

Comment from Tilghman Builders:
Jennifer,
We know your project is completed now, and we are very happy with how it turned out, blending with your existing home, and we trust you are happy with it, too. As with any project, we set our timeline and work hard to be planful for unforseen issues. We are sorry that your project did have some challenges, that we worked through together, and with your beautiful new porch as the result. The issues you needed fixed have since been resolved by our team.
We would be happy to help you on any future projects you dream for your home, and wish you only the best.

Had a laundry room added, new roof, gutters and downspouts, new mail box, stairs to garage attic and other improvement along to way. All work was completed to my satisfaction. Workers were polite and accommodating. I highly recommend.

We hired Tilghman Builders to complete a 100 sq ft addition and COMPLETELY gut our 1964 kitchen. It also included 1200 sq ft of hardwood floor refinishing and painting in the family room, dining room and office and stucco the rear brick façade of the house. This was a very LARGE project and after interviewing 6 potential contractors we choose Tilghman Builders. After completing the project ahead of schedule we think back to the other possible people that we might have hired and realized what a terrific choice we made. Although their bid was high, it covered all the areas that we wanted addressed in this project. Bob & Joanne's initial meeting with us was very comprehensive. They listened for 1-2 hours about what we were looking to complete. At the second meeting they provided preliminary drawings and a detailed list of what would be included in the contract. No other builder provided so much up front without a deposit. The reason for hiring was their professionalism, engineering knowledge in completing a project requiring a 22' long beam and frankly their friendly nature. Throughout the 3 long winter months progress was made EVERY day. In fact we were amazed to come home each night to see all that was completed! Eric, the project manager cared so much about every detail. We felt he had as much invested in our project as we did as he took so much pride in everything. He made terrific suggestions and was flexible truly trying to accommodate us in every way. We especially thought the coordination with sub-contractors was handled well and Eric was on-hand to oversee their work. We also saw that when required (getting the beam in and closing up the wall on a cold January day!) all of their guys were here to get the project going and even most other days at least 2 people were here. It seemed our project was a priority to them. For all these reasons we highly recommend Tilghman Builders. A BIG THANK YOU shout out to Eric, Junior, Alan, Tony and Will for all their hard work! You guys are the best! Who knew 100 sq ft could make such a difference? Our kitchen is amazing!

Back in 2009, with three growing boys (at the time, one 9 year old and two 12 year olds), we needed additional space in our home in the Yardley, PA area. The building program we initially discussed was quite modest (add a new master bedroom, home office, and master bath over the garage), but ended up being expanded as a result of some design opportunities that presented themselves as we discussed our needs and the design options that resulted from the space available (add laundry closet off the master bedroom, loft storae space over the master bedroom, bump out into the exsiting garage with a new larger powderoom and a mudroom, incorporate the old powderoom and a small hallway, and open up the old stairs to the playroom downstairs into a newly renovated kitchen). The results was spectacular; changing our whole experience of our home. After five years of enjoying the improvements to our home, we wouldn't change a thing!
Bob and Joanne Tilghman were very helpful in helping us develop our initial design concept, in order to take advantage of some design opportunities that would add a great deal of value to the final product without adding a comensurate level of expense. Bob's team on the job was headed by Jim Callahan, the project manager (whose creative solutions to numerous problems that popped along the way, which is typical on an older home, contributed greatly to the quality of the final product). Also on the team were Ed (who did a nice job renovating our side porch and with all the tile work) and Larry, an indepent electricial who was very helpful in addressing our lighting and electical needs on the project. All in all, we are very pleased with the work that was done and the process we went through to get it accomplished. We would definitely recommend Bob and Joanne's team at Tilghman Builders to do your next home expansion or renovation job.

We hired Tilghman Builders to restore our house after a serious fire. Every step of the project was handled and completed as promised. They communicated with us frequently and were able to adjust the project to incorporate changes we came up with along the way. At the end we felt like we were moving back into our previous home as we remembered with some terrific upgrades and additions. We would highly recommend Tilghman Builders for your next project.

We want to thank the Tilghman Builders for building us a wonderful deck. They always kept us in the loop, were available to answer our questions, and very helpful when deciding on the final design and deck materials. We want to give Tony Rossi a special thank you for putting all the finishing touches on the deck to make it perfect!

We called and texted you and your husband to see if you were satisfied and if there were any outstanding issues. You never responded to us. We would have continued to come back until you were happy. That’s what we do - we have come back years and years later for our customers, to fix things even well beyond the warranty. We have a great reputation and a very big heart, and all of our employees do, too, and they work really hard to please our clients.
I know you went through a lot of emotions when your husband became sick, and you needed to get out of your twin home as soon as possible for your comfort. We did everything we could to make that happen as soon as possible for you. As you said, we were building you a 2-story addition with plans and permits in place. We were supposed to start excavation the next day when you changed directions. We had no problem reducing the size of your project so you were more comfortable.
Your steep stair issue was being resolved in your new addition, but when you changed direction, we didn’t have many choices. The choices we did have you didn’t want to do. There was nothing that we could have done to change your stair situation, and for that I am sorry.
We are an extremely organized company, and sit down with our customers at the beginning of every project. One of the things we talk about are what can go wrong in doing any kind of remodeling on a home. Unfortunately for us, there are just too many hands that go into designing and building projects, that make human error happen. We have a “ what to expect list” which we shared with you that talks about what can go wrong, and how we will correct them if this happens. Unfortunately our cabinet company ordered you the wrong upper color cabinets. This is completely out of our control, and because the color was so close, our guys did not notice this when they put them up. Of course, when you told us, they immediately took them down and we ordered the right ones. We know this can be frustrating, but we fixed it for you.
The microwave unfortunately came in damaged as well. Again it is out of our control, but we immediately ordered a new one. When we did receive it, one of our guys was wearing a sweatshirt with a zipper, and put a small scratch in it. This was totally our fault, but things do happen, even with our own employees. We do whatever we can to make it right, so we thought it would be easier on you if we just replaced the door of the microwave, but in doing a lot of research we found it wasn’t possible, so we replaced the whole thing. This did take time, but you had a microwave to use, until the new one came in.
We were staining the floor to match your existing floor as close as we can, so there were no decisions that you needed to make. We would have come back and fixed any bubbles that you had.
I’m sorry our guys didn’t clean up all the time. We have a reputation for very neat job sites, but perhaps because no one was living there they thought they could do it at the end of every week, instead of every day. You just needed to tell us. Communication is so important and we would have corrected it.
We are a very detailed company, and have everything written in the proposal of what’s included in your project. We never have a grey area that leads to you not knowing what you're getting. If you want something else, we are more than happy to do it for you, but it will be at an extra cost.
We have pages and pages of people on our reference list who enjoyed working with Tilghman Builders. Eric, we call him “Junior” (our son's name is Eric as well and he is also one our lead carpenters), is our newest lead carpenter, and is extremely skilled in his craft — so much so, we put him in a lead position. He is such a good guy, and extremely loyal, so it hurts us to hear you didn’t trust him. He is a little quiet, and we can say, he needs to communicate more on a day to day basis of what is going on. That said, if you told us how you were feeling, and the things you weren’t happy with, we would have corrected them immediately.
We never leave a job, until you are happy with everything. You just never responded back to us, for all the calls, texts, and emails we sent you. We would be more than happy to come back and fix anything that is not up to your standards. We have high standards too, but without communicating to us, our hands are tied. If you get this review response, please respond to any of the ways we’ve reached out to you so we can work on a resolution for you.
- Bob and Joanne Tilghman
