About Us

David Mitchell has a unique philosophy about interior design. It is that each client is an individual and a client’s house should reflect their personality. There is a big difference between designing a home for a family with 4 children and designing a home for a single man. With over 20 years of experience, David Mitchell has the talent and know how to do both. He feels that designing should be fun, interesting, educational and a true collaboration between himself and his clients. Because of his unique perspective, David has been published in many shelter publications, such as House Beautiful, Veranda, Home & Design, Luxe, Southern Living, Metropolitan Home, Traditional Home, and Southern Accents. He was chosen by Southern Accents magazine to design the entire Old Dominion Showhouse/2005, in McLean, Virginia, as well as being chosen one of House Beautiful magazines top 100 Interior Designers.

I have been working with David Mitchell building custom furniture for over 10 years now. His knowledge of the history of furniture, wood and construction, along with his eye and creativity, have challenged me to produce some of the most outstanding pieces of my woodworking career. He always provides me with beautiful drawings and when a piece gets delivered to a clients house, they are always thrilled with the outcome. I’m always impressed with the interiors he creates for his clients, and over the past 10 years I have seen quite a few of them. If I could afford to hire David to design my own house, I definitely would.

We hired David Mitchell to design our new townhouse, and he did a wonderful job. Not only did he take into account through the meetings and conversations we had about our life style, our taste and our aesthetic, but he came up with creative ways to use some of the special pieces and art we have accumulated on our travels. He brought color and new ideas to us that we never would have thought of. David and his design assistant Elizabeth were a pleasure to work with. Always easy to reach, they kept us informed on the progress and on schedule with the finished product, our home. Our home is beautiful because of David's impeccable eye for design, fabrics, and accessories, yet it is still comfortable and truly reflects us. And it was within our budget! We highly recommend David Mitchell.

David designed two spaces in our Kalorama condo some twenty years ago. We loved it then, and continue to love, the pieces of furniture and lighting he chose. David is a thoughtful designer who creates rooms that are beautiful, comfortable, and soft. He blends traditional with modern pieces that get rave reviews. I have admired his work at Showcase Homes, in magazines, and in person. David always provided at least two options while keeping our budget in mind. Also, David has a lovely sense of humor which is always appreciated.
