About Us

Gilded Hearth is a narrative-driven, full-service interior design studio based in Culver City, Los Angeles. Founded by Emily Brownell, the studio crafts homes rooted in history, shaped by craftsmanship, and made for the way clients actually live today — rooms that stir rather than shout. We're drawn to architecture with strong bones and real history — Spanish Colonial, Tudor, Craftsman, Mediterranean, mid-century, and cottage-style homes — and we bring that same sense of depth and rootedness to newer construction as well. Every project begins with story: who lives here, what they've collected and carried with them, and what feeling the space should hold once the work is done. Our approach blends bespoke cabinetry, hand-selected vintage lighting and furnishings, and natural materials with close attention to architectural detail, so that no two projects ever look alike or feel templated. We work across Los Angeles and take on select projects nationwide, with a particular affinity for the Northeast, including the Hudson Valley and Adirondack region. Emily exceeded my wildest expectations with the incredible design work she did at my new home. After sitting down with me and getting a sense of what I was looking to do, she then proceeded to mock up multiple versions of what the spaces would look like fully decorated. As if that wasn't enough, she managed to continue to revise and improve on every design to my exact liking. The end result was perfection. Literally every single person who has visited my place immediately comments on the design and decor -- several have even asked who did the work and I have referred them on to her. I could not be happier with the final product and will definitely work with her again.

Without a doubt Emily completely surpassed my expectations and hopes for our new space! Loved working with someone who kept our own style and budget in mind throughout the process, while ALSO providing creativity and new ideas I wouldn’t normally gravitate towards! We hired Emily to help design our nursery, as I have no eye for this kind of stuff and we wanted something cute, warm and neutral but still fun for our first baby. I'm so happy we did because we absolutely LOVE the work she did!! She proposed a few different themes with some different story boards to choose from and then helped pick out all the items which matched that theme we chose. She was also very responsive every time we had a question or once we decided the direction we wanted to go. Everything is really adorable but also really functional, which is great because it's not a huge room. She also worked to match things with the few items we already had (crib, dresser and rocker). We get SO many compliments on the nursery. Our baby even loves to hang out and play in there! We are definitely going to be using her again when we get ready to design some of our other rooms!

Emily is amazing. I never would have considered hiring someone to decorate my home and thought it was out of my budget but Emily was exactly what I needed. We had a very stressful move and needed to decorate several rooms before we moved in. Emily was phenomenal about choosing larger pieces, advising me on smaller elements, developing an overarching decor scheme, and most importantly SAVING me money! Thanks to her tips and tricks and amazing skills at anticipating sales we saved as much if not more than what we spent for her services. My husband and I are very pleased and our friends all love our place!

Emily is fantastic and has helped me with interior decor for my entire house both interior and exterior. She did a wonderful job despite never having visited the house before. She was easy to communicate via e-mail, stayed within budget and receptive to my opinions. I gave her various themes to explore ranging from Middle Eastern to Asian influenced for different parts of the house and she was very flexible. I intend to continue hiring Emily as I update my house in the future. Am very very pleased and recommend her highly.

I loved working with Emily and would highly recommend anyone looking for an interior designer who brings creativity and designs something that fits your own unique style. Emily definitely took into consideration my own ideas and opinions about what I wanted as well as my budget. She definitely is NOT one of those designers that blow your budget or force you into a style that doesn’t really suit you. Emily knows exactly how to merge my wants with her own creativity in order to produce a space that you love looking at and love being in. I now LOVE every space she has touched in my house! Emily also did fabulous working under pressure. I had a deadline to complete on one of the projects and she came through. Emily was able to get the spaces designed before the deadline and they are some of my favorites! Now I just wish I can keep re-decorating my spaces so I can hire Emily over and over again to recreate another fun, gorgeous space.
