My process is built around transparency and education — especially for first-time homeowners — and that often involves in-depth, technical conversations. I believe strongly that clients benefit from understanding not just what things cost, but why. This level of detail supports informed decision-making and sets realistic expectations, ensuring clients know exactly what they’re paying for and why it matters.

To that end, I never begin a design engagement without first outlining a complete project budget, including fees for all design phases. Before this client committed to any design services, they were fully informed of the anticipated $65,000 all-in cost for both bathrooms. This included labor, materials, tax, delivery, project management, and all phases of design as part of a package price.

The initial fee covered only the concept phase—look and feel, functional planning, and space layout. We had not yet entered the stages involving specific material selections or construction documentation, which is why detailed drawings were not available at that point.

At this stage, if a client prefers to select and purchase items on their own, that is absolutely acceptable. They would provide their selections, and I would create the construction drawings accordingly. However, to ensure installation compatibility, I also offer a service to review those selections. In my experience, when clients purchase items without professional review, it often leads to disappointment, mistakes, change order fees, and unexpected issues. Most clients don’t have the experience or technical knowledge to properly assess product specifications on their own.

I understand this process isn’t the right fit for everyone, and I respect your decision to pause. I sincerely wish you all the best with your renovation.
