Open Range

We hired Open Range to design and build our backyard. They assured us their in-house team could execute the plans on time and on budget. We moved forward based on that promise, but what followed was a series of costly mistakes, poor communication, and a complete breakdown in trust. We raised concerns early on about slipping timelines and unclear budgeting, but no one told us the design we paid for was unbuildable. That only came to light after the crew left the job with no notice and we escalated to the CEO. It was that then that someone admitted the design was “impossible to build as drawn.” By that point, demolition was complete, expensive errors had already been made, and we were left with a torn-up yard and no clear plan to fix it. Major issues included: incorrect patio grading confirmed by a third party, rendering surrounding work unusable; trees cut from two neighbors’ yards despite clear property lines and warnings; steps and a path installed in the wrong locations; rock installed despite clear written direction not to; billing for utilities never installed; and fence post holes driven over by machinery and redone by us. In response to our concerns, the CEO claimed we made too many changes and that the team hadn’t walked off. To be clear, we made two real changes: removing front yard work and asking not to run some utilities. Other clarifications, like hot tub dimensions and conduit for the hot tub electrical among similar things, were part of the original scope. We paid all invoices and never said work should stop. When equipment disappeared, we asked and were told it was being serviced. Then the portapotty was removed with no explanation. We had no choice but to assume the job was abandoned. Around the same time, we also received a lien notice from a vendor due to Open Range’s nonpayment, dated prior to our meeting with the CEO. We’ve since terminated our agreement and are requesting a refund for the unusable design, unused deposit, and incomplete or incorrect work, about 50% of what we’ve paid. We’ve yet to receive resolution, and our concerns remain unaddressed. Strongly recommend avoiding this company. They do not stand behind their work, do not own their mistakes, and do not communicate when things go wrong.

Loved working with Lisman Studio!! We finished everything just before the pandemic shutdown. It was so nice to sit in a beautiful home that finally felt like mine. Belle and her team are fantastic to work with and took my ideas and desires and did their magic to make it happen. I will be calling them again when we begin our addition--cant' wait!

Scott helped us with two different projects in our house. We love the results! He made the process so much easier than if we had done it ourselves.

We replaced out 20-year old (functional but dated!) kitchen and family room with Lisman's help. Although we knew what we wanted, Scott Ross had a lot of ideas to improve on our vision. He has a tremendous eye and design sensibility, and everything came out perfectly. Also, Scott was able to function as the glue that held the project together, helping with everything between us, the cabinet maker, and the contractor. The result was fantastic. It's a beautiful kitchen and exactly what we wanted, even if it's not exactly what we thought we wanted before we started. I can't recommend Scott and Lisman more highly.

We hired Lisman Studio to oversee our construction project as well as design the space. They were wonderful to work with and went out of their way to make sure we were happy and satisfied. They always communicated well with us and were transparent in all of our dealings. They always responded to our many questions with grace. LaMar, Kristina and Alexis have amazing integrity and we always felt that they had our best interest in mind. The project ended up beautiful and we are very happy that we hired this company and highly recommend them to anyone, commercial or residential, that is looking for a top notch design team!
