Ruth Zimerman designed two very different spaces- one 3-story house and one condo- for me, between 2009 and 2014. She coordinated paint colours, textiles, and furnishings for a variety of rooms, including my main living spaces and my daughter’s and my bedrooms. She also helped us to effectively stage the condo, when we later sold it.
I was very impressed with Ruth’s work. She knows how to listen; though she made many suggestions, she did not impose her own aesthetic on us, but drew up plans based on our tastes, preferences, and circumstances. As I was raising two children, she helped me create warm, family-friendly rooms that still had the elegance and company-proof vibe I craved. She was also flexible in incorporating favourite pre-existing pieces of ours- if we said something mattered, she worked around it.
Ruth excels in organization. I am not a natural organizer, and so appreciated her suggestions and methods for grouping books, papers, clothes, etc. Ruth creates rooms that work.
She also keeps client information on file between jobs, which was a huge help to me when we moved.
Ruth is calm and inventive on big projects, and equally invested in small ones, which I appreciated. I was never made to feel that a smaller project (e.g.: my daughter’s new closet) mattered less than Ruth’s larger assignments.
Ruth has such a pleasant personality- straightforward and smart, but very kind- that I came to consider her a friend; I looked forward to our meetings. Yet Ruth never lost her professionalism- she was prompt, courteous, and reliable from start to finish. She knew which contractors to call and maintained excellent relationships with them, so that I was never troubled by problems in getting work completed. For this alone, I recommend working with Ruth- negotiating with contractors is not, for many of us, a favourite activity!
In short, I highly recommend Ruth Zimerman as an interior designer.
