About Us

Backyard Getaway is a family owned and operated outdoor living service business offering professional pond design, installation, renovation & maintenance services as well as many other outdoor living services in Bradenton, Sarasota & the Tampa Bay area including outdoor firepit/fireplace installation, landscape renovation & maintenance, flagstone & paver pathways & patios, lake fountain & bio-island installation, retaining wall seating & water features, re-purposed garden art and more. We are a proud business partner in the Be Floridian Campaign created by the Tampa Bay Estuary Program. As part of the campaign Lisa is one of 25 artists who has painted a plastic flamingo for a traveling exhibit called “The art of being Floridian.” Backyard Getaway’s water features have been twice featured in Water Garden News’ Designer Showcase & in Water Gardening Magazine.

Even though our job was small we were treated with the same respect as if it were a big job. We were kept in constant communication The suggestions they gave us were perfect and provided a nice picture of what it would look like and the end product did look just like they promised. Even cleaned up very well

Lisa and Dave have a unique service providing maintenance for ponds and other water features. In addition to a variety of support that they provide from their years of experience as dedicated pond and landscape professionals, they are quick to respond, and attentive to customer needs. I really appreciate having them to help with my pond-care and improvements to my home landscape, and feel that at any point ongoing, can rely on them to be available for continued help.

I had Backyard Getaway clear out a back garden area, and put in a running stream with landscaping and lighting. They also leveled and put in sod in a back area near the pool that was bare. They did a fantastic job. Started on time, finished ahead of schedule and cleaned up beautifully when they were done. Professional and responsive. The work was better than I expected. Dave, his son and his wife did excellent work for us. We purchased a home with an existing Koi pond and waterfall. We knew little about how to maintain it. Dave and his crew came to our house, explained how everything was supposed to work, then did a fantastic job cleaning and making a few minor repairs. We were even out of town when he was doing the work. He and his wife sent pictures and regular updates. We are so happy with their customer service and recommend them without reservation to everyone!

After going through 3 other companies to help maintain our pond which is located at the entrance of our business Backyard Getaway was the answer to our prayers! Not only did they fix some minor issues but they made sure that the plants surrounding the pond were groomed correctly and added greenery to float in the pond which added a nice touch. It wasnt just coming out and adding water like all the others it was paying attention to detail and giving our pond character. They also understand the sense of urgency when we feel something isnt working right and able to come out within 24-48hrs. We are very pleased with Backyard Getaway.

I highly recommend Backyard Getaway. Three things I look for when hiring a service company are: 1. quality of work, 2. dependability (they show up) a novel concept now a days, Affordable rates for their services. I am a repeat customer and have commended them to others who are just as happy.. Have used their landscaping services and plan on having them do paver patios and pond installation in the near future.. Family owned business, husband and wife team Lisa and Dave Burns.

Very conscientious and very creative! Dave offers a variety of ideas and solutions, and keeps budget in mind. We have two waterfall-river-pond systems and both are wonderful additions to our home. We continue to use Backyard Getaway for our ongoing pond maintenance .

Replace "dead" fountain in back yard, create lovely butterfly plantings around it and finish is nicely. Plant desired hedging in back. Follow up with watering next day. Mortar rocks around fountain to prevent dislodging by woodland animals. Backyard Getaway was responsive, most pleasant to deal with and efficient.

I have been using the Backyard Getaway for all my pond needs. They have done work for me for the past ten years. They are known to be reliable, efficient and finish the work in a timely manner. Recently I moved to Clermont from Sarasota and They created the best pond yet. I have had them do a Koi pond in Sarasota and expand on it in future years. When I moved I called them to create my new pond in Clermont. They harboured our Koi fish and took care of them until my new pond was built. I am happy to say that my fish survived the ordeal and they made a bigger and better pond for me. They also did a patio for me to enable me to walk to my pond. When we decided to build a pond, we visited every pond store from Bradenton to Venice. There was only one store that really took the time to listen to our ideas, questions, and needs. That was the Backyard Getaway. Lisa and Dave were more interested in encouraging us and guiding us than making a quick sale, and that is what sold us. We had an idea and they suggested various equipment. They explained why each piece was important. Lisa always checked for the most economical piece of equipment for our pond, and Dave was ready to assist with the installation. This is a family run business, and they make every customer feel important. They take the time to listen and offer a wide variety of suggestions. . Lisa and Dave Burns of the Backyard Getaway Store strive to make your pond experience fun and educational.

Dave and Lisa at Backyard Getaway have completed a number of outdoor projects at our home. The waterfall that Dave built on the side of our pond is amazing. It even includes a pondless waterfall on one side. He also constructed a deck and dock in front of our gazebo. There is a lighted pathway between the gazebo and waterfall. Also, beside the waterfall is a firepit with sitting boulders. Our front yard looks like something from a magazine. I can't believe it is my front yard! Dave also installed a huge bird aviary for my peacocks. It is wonderful. Lisa is always professional and goes out of her way for their clients. We wholeheartedly recommend The Backyard Getaway for any projects.
