Resourceful Construction

My husband and I purchased a 1930s Spanish last summer and while we loved the original bones and charm of the house, it definitely left something to be desired in terms of aesthetic updates made by previous owners. Working with Cheney and Jud, we were able to transform our home to our taste while also keeping with the original character of the house, and staying within our financial boundaries. However, only a small part of our job was cosmetic- the house was completely rewired the from the old knob and tube and copper plumbing was installed. Cheney and Jud opened walls, added a powder room and extended a closet. They pulled permits and worked with an architect to alter our floor plan . Jud oversaw all the subcontractors and Cheney has great taste when it comes to guidance in design. I would definitely recommend Resourceful Developments. They were mindful of our budget and always had creative fixes when some of our ideas were out of our financial reach. We love the way that our house turned out!

Earlier this year my husband and I decided to convert the single car garage of our 1921 Silverlake home into a shared office/storage space in order to reclaim our second bedroom for the baby that was on the way. After interviewing four different general contracting teams of various sizes and areas of specialty, we chose to work with Resourceful Developments on the project. I use the words "work with" specifically, as our experience with Shannon, Shawn and the rest of the team definitely felt like a collaborative effort in the best possible way. From the numerous visits they did to make sure they had an accurate assessment of all aspects of the job, to the level of openness and transparency they brought to the bidding process, to the comprehensive and competitively priced bid they ultimately provided, they instilled confidence and trust in our working relationship from day one. Shawn and his team were punctual, professional, pleasant, conscientious and incredibly resourceful every step of the way, and took advantage of several opportunities to save us money and time by salvaging and reusing discarded materials from the renovation. Shawn also exhibited an unsolicited sensitivity to the aesthetic side of the job, paying close attention to finishing details of our existing home so they could be replicated throughout the garage, thereby creating a continuity and appropriateness to the design that could have easily been overlooked. Ultimately, the project was finished in less time than originally quoted and exceeded our expectations on both a design and functional level. We would and will hire Resourceful Developments again for future work!

Working with Resourceful Developments was a truly fabulous experience. After having seen their staging work throughout Northeast LA (I'm a real estate agent so I had seen many homes they had staged), I hired them to stage my own home that I recently sold. They were uber professional, really communicative so I didn't need to worry about what was/was not happening, and so easy to work with. They were flexible and cool too - for example when I wanted an area staged a certain way, they brought in some more pieces to accommodate me. I gave them a key and they would come to water the plants and check on everything during the week. They certainly went the extra mile to listen and work with my needs. And very importantly, they did an incredible job with the staging! I almost didn't want to sell after I saw the home staged. Every person (seriously, everyone) that walked in gawked, oohed and ahhhed about the stylish interior design. I certainly give Resourceful Developments some credit for my quick sale. I would definitely recommend them and hire them again!

When my husband and I moved into our new home in February we hired Resourceful Developments to fix and upgrade a range of practical and cosmetic issues uncovered in our inspection: 1. Dig out and re-slope sewer at front of house. Rebuild front pavement. 3. Foundation repairs 4. Plumbing repairs 5. Electric repairs 6. Remove front awning and build new porch roof and wood railings. New wood railings at back porch. 7. Remove interior metal railings and build wood railing on stairs and in dining area. The team was able to complete all of the above within two weeks, which is pretty incredible! Jud and Cheney were extremely easy to work with and always available to discuss changes or concerns. Resourceful Developments was also very reasonably priced, allowing us to do so much work in such little time. We will be hiring them again to redo our kitchen and bathrooms!

Jud and Cheney are highly skilled, collaborative, efficient and competitively priced, but beyond that, they are always willing to go the extra mile to keep their clients happy, even after a project is complete. My company has worked with Resourceful Developments on a number of build outs, and they always provide the clients with remarkable personal attention and offer creative solutions to the smallest of problems, on even the smallest of jobs. Do not pass up an opportunity to work with Resourceful Developments. We purchased a duplex in a desired area of LA. It was in decent shape. But in order get the rent we needed, the units required some updating, creative design AND we were on a budget. Out of the gate, Cheney & Judson were full of ideas & solutions to all the problems our units had. They love what they do & its easy to see this in how they dealt with us & watching their creativity on this project. They have amazing attention to detail & are on the pulse of design & aesthetics. They were both in great communication with us every step of the way, willing to tweak things & be flexible regarding all of our concerns. Any unexpected factors that arose during construction were presented to us immediately AND with a solution in hand. The project was completed ON time & ON budget. We were left with a beautiful property that yields us a positive cash flow. I highly recommend their services.

We hired Cheney and Judd to remodel our bathroom, and though a small job, they treated it as if it were the primary focus of their attention. Cheney has a great eye, and the couple hires only dependable, skilled subcontractors. They paid attention to my deadline (we had guests arriving) and were always attentive and responsive in a timely manner. The final product is outstanding. We love our new bathroom! I give my highest, most enthusiastic recommendation.

Did a good job on my home and kept it all affordable. The men who work with them are very sincere, meticulous and trustworthy. They repaired the home foundation and bolted it, brought the water heater up to standard, brought the electrical wiring up to code, repaired plumbing issues and sealed the roof prior to my move in. Wonderful eye for home interiors. She walked into the home and had so many fantastic ideas and helped me keep it affordable for a new home owner. They refinished and repainted my kitchen cabinets and dining room staircase. They also recarpeted the upstairs floor and expanded the bedroom by removing the closet (it greatly enhanced the room). I felt good about them-good knowledge, good team of workers and generally a very genuine couple. I did have concerns during all the various projects, Cheney was my main contact person. Over the course of the house repair she become increasingly attentive and stayed in touch with me.
