Morlen Sinoway Atelier

I thought of Morlen today as I referred a casual acquaintance to him swearing that he is "the laid-back guy who is always on the 'bleeding edge' of NEXT". I've known him for almost 3 decades You can't overestimate him! Listen to him!

I worked exclusively with Morlen Sinoway Atelier on the gut re-hab of my live/work space in the Wicker Park area of Chicago. Morlen, Susan, and Lori were very hands-on at every stage of the design and implementation, they were on-site multiple times a week confirming measurements, regulating materials, managing budgets, and monitoring installation. By the end of the project, they had also taken on General Contracting duties, procuring materials, managing crews, tracking funds, and finalizing the move-in (all at no extra cost). From a design-perspective, MSA was able to provide some one-of-a-kind touches that are unique without being trendy, providing an aesthetic that will stand the test of time (photos attached). The two things that impressed me the most were the large-scale design vision: Scaling the implements to fit a large space, keeping it from looking "busy" (such as larger light treatments, back-splash tying into refrigerator housing, out-sized kitchen island, etc.); and the smaller in size but equally as important attention to detail (like the reverse baseboards, reveals around the doors, counter-top and light-switch heights, etc.) I have now been in the space for nearly 10 years and am still noticing things both big and small that I appreciate! All in all, I would give MSA my highest recommendation - they consulted with me every step of the way, and took 100% accountability for the project from start to finish.

Morlen Sinoway was the creative genius who not only made our new house gorgeous but who also made it a warm livable home. The true sign of the phenomenal job he did is that it has been 8 years and our published house just seems to get better as it ages and patinas. The Atelier is one of my favorite haunts in the city for tabletop, accessories, jewelry, and furniture. Some of my most interesting pieces that I wear, have in my home, and have given as gifts come from this store. As a matter of fact, when I wear certain pieces, or even carry a purse, I invariable get asked where it came from. They have such wonderful, artistic, and usable objects. I have also used Morlen to help me complete rooms in my home. He has a great eye, and he listens to what I'm trying to do with the space in my home. Also, the price always came in as he promised...not to mention delivery was on time too. I would use Morlen again, and I've recommended him to my friends.

I have worked with Morlen on a number of projects and his attention to detail, unfailing sense of design and knowledge of products and construction put him in a class of designer above most practicing in Chicago. His store offers a wide range of products from wall and floor coverings to artwork, jewelry and furniture, many of the items discovered on exotic foreign travels and offered up in his comfortable corner location in the Fulton Market District. His ever changing array of must-have items makes the store a certain destination for those interested in quality, uniqueness and just simply wonderful furnishings.
