The 1,750-square foot Manhattan Beach bungalow is home to two humans and three dogs. Originally built in 1929, the bungalow had undergone various renovations that convoluted its original Moorish style. We gutted the home and completely updated both the interior and exterior. We opened the floor plan, rebuilt the ceiling with reclaimed hand-hewn oak beams and created hand-troweled plaster walls that mimicked the construction and look of the original walls. We also rebuilt the living room fireplace by hand, brick-by-brick, and replaced the generic roof tiles with antique handmade clay tiles. We returned much of this 3-bed, 2-bath home to a more authentic aesthetic, while adding modern touches of luxury, like radiant-heated floors, bi-fold doors that open from the kitchen/dining area to a large deck, and a custom steam shower, with Moroccan-inspired tile and an antique mirror. The end result is evocative luxury in a compact space.

This coastal transitional home combines the relaxed beach decor perfectly with the contemporary pieces of transitional style. The pop of coastal detail in this home will make you feel like your on the beach somewhere. The blend of sleek and clean features with fun coastal accents creates a beautiful home to relax and enjoy.

With a background in interior design, her ideas strongly influenced the process, presenting both challenge and reward in executing her exact vision. Vintage coastal style grounds a thoroughly modern open floor plan, designed to house a busy family with three active children. A primary focus was the kitchen, and more importantly, the butler’s pantry tucked behind it. Flowing logically from the garage entry and mudroom, and with two access points from the main kitchen, it fulfills the utilitarian functions of storage and prep, leaving the main kitchen free to shine as an integral part of the open living area. This home is casual and welcoming yet completely pulled together with an elevated coastal style. The open floor plan has a large kitchen with two islands, a breakfast nook and a great room with fireplace and built-ins. There is a 3 season porch off the kitchen with a fireplace, dining area and sitting area. The X-detail is repeated in the stair railing, kitchen island and cabinetry, and primary bedroom cabinets. The high ceilings are highlighted with beams and shiplap and the wide oak wood floors warm up the mostly white interior. The furnishings are coastal as well with various shades of blue used throughout. Unique lighting, gold tone plumbing fixtures and hardware are used to warm up the spaces. Outdoor spaces include a covered seating area, pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen.

The kitchen is probably my favorite space we renovated in the home. It's super crisp...which also might be my favorite interior design term :) The marble 3-D backsplash brings depth and texture. Loads of storage in this kitchen as we added cabinets under the grand island. We carried the water vibes through by adding blue Art & accessories. The white Quartz countertops are practically maintenance free: they are stain, acid, scratch, heat and impact resistant...perfect for a family.
