Greg, i sent you an email. WHERE as white quartz may not stain, it has to constantly be wiped off with scrubbing bubbles or the like, to get rid of the grey lines which are caused by an alloy being in an object. Otherwise it looks awful! Why do none of your guys know this ? my guy did not know this either until i told him, as no one ever gave him this feedback

My tile guy had never had this feedback from any of his his customers that had purchased white quartz. But he was very grateful for my feedback so going forward he could advise accordingly to his customers. The head quartz guy wher the slab came from is the who enlightened me about what happens when an alloy comes in contact . I asked him why his sales people didnt advise customers about this and he said he would make sure they do frpm now on. He says it happens on all quartz , but not as easy to notice. He likened it to the marks you get on fine china from silverware

Hi! I have Della Terra quartz counter tops (purchased from Arizona Tile) and experiencing the same scratching issue. It is driving me nuts! I'm wondering if it a chemical reaction with the metal and the surface as you all indicated above. My husband and I have been going back and forth with the management team for months now with no end in sight. I agree that it should noted during the selling process. If anyone has luck getting these stains out, please let me know.

Same issue. 1 week in from white Quartz from Arizona tile and I have tea stains and black scratch marks. I can't get them off. Used Bar keepers, soft scrub with bleach on the tea thinking I could bleach out the stain like I do in my cups, nothing is removing the ring or scratch.

Use Scrubbing Bubbles without bleach and a mr clean magic eraser. Then rinse with water and wipe off. It will come right off!

Wow, sorry it didn’t work for you like it did for me! I would call ROLAND at AZ TILE IN SCOTTSDALE. He is head of Quartz dept and is the one who told me what to use. He even was willing to come out if I couldn’t get rid of my marks. Are u in AZ?? If so, call him, as I’m sure he would help you. Between you and me, the granite in my last house was much easier to maintain!!!

My quartz countertops went in in April. I noticed a raspberry stain after my July 4th party. It was really set in. I may have done some damage to the countertop (used the green scrubber side of the sponge) before I read about cleaning up stains. I have been careful, but truthfully, anxious about my countertops since then. Yesterday I discovered another pink stain, about the size of a box of raspberries - BUT I cannot for the life of my recall when this may have happened. I have to buy some Barkeepers Friend today as I cannot rub out the stain with a sponge (used some vinegar but I'm also worried this may affect the resin finish).

To do it over again I'd of done Wilsonart formica. That's right, just like my mom's kitchen, formica. When I sold her house the 50 year old countertops were white! The construction guys left a can of turpentine on the counter and there was 6" rust ring from the can. Soft scrub got it out! BTY formica is now made to look like solid stone countertops - no 4" lip running up the wall, no rounded edges etc. Seriously, check it out. (White looks good BUT fake granite & marble still look fake.)

AmericanSue: What brand did you get? was it quartzite or quartz? I was thinking of updating to white or light marble-look quartz. My silestone held up beautifully, but I no longer really like the flecked pattern I chose.

I’m in the U.K. with a white marble effect quartz worktop installed a few months ago and it’s staining like crazy from tea and red wine. I chose quartz for low maintenance as have kids & lots of get togethers. I’m constantly wiping down every few minutes & can’t enjoy friends over without a cloth in my hand! - a drop of tea left for a few seconds stains. There’s now lots of rings from cups & glasses etc. It’s a nightmare!

I have a white and splashes of grey quartz counter and I have rings if glass stains all over counter and even dribbles of water sitting on counter plus it seems to scratch easy . What can I do to get rid of ring stains and what could I put on it to protect it from happening again?

I have quartz in Brunello (white with some grey veining). I love it!! It cleans easily with Clorox wipes. The company where I purchased the quartz stated that if it ever stains they will fix the problem no questions asked.

WOW - this is very interesting being that people get quartz to avoid the maintenance of other counters. I've decided I'm going to make my heart sing and get the marble I've always wanted. Might as well clean that.

I am so thankful to find this post! We just moved into our new home and chose MSI Calcatta Laza. We aren’t having any issues with stains from coffee or tea, but we most definitely are having issues with the black marks. We chose quartz because of the “low maintenance”, but I am going crazy obsessing over these marks. I’ve tried the liquid Barkeeper’s Friend and a lot of elbow grease with some success. I am totally getting a can of Scrubbing Bubbles and a magic eraser tomorrow! Fingers crossed. For those who have tried this, have you noticed any loss of shine?

I have Cambria. The dye from a plastic grocery bag stained our counter.
I used simply green and it got the stain out.
Sharpie markers also stained counter and again Simply green got the stain out.
Cambria suggested this and if it didn’t work - I was to call them back. These counters should not stain.

The joke is on us!!! Low Maintenance... I think not! i might as well have gotten the marble as well!!! Or I should have stayed with the quartzite in the kitchen, as I used it in all the bathrooms and not one problem there. Recently , I had some grey marks that the scrubbing bubbles and magic eraser did not work on. I was fit to be tied again! AZ Tile called Stone Solutions and had someone from that company come out and they used some gritty white stuff to buff the area out. It worked! So he told me what to purchase and where online to get it. Called Resin cleaner 2. I got it from a company called GRANQUARTZ online. It was about $32 with shipping. He used a round spongy buffer but said I could just use a cloth. It worked thank god! It did not remove the shine. AZ tile paid for these people to come out. I asked the guy what they charge if I was paying on my own and he said the minimum is $500 if they have to come out! Whoa!!! Anyway, WHAT A SCAM WHEN THEY CALL QUARTZ LOW MAINTENANCE !!

Yep - this is insane. I guess I will add Simple Green and Resin Cleaner 2 to my list. I just don’t understand how the majority of reviews and information do not contain our experience. :-( I’m sorry for us all!

I wonder if Silestone was made better than the new quartz. I was the first person I knew to put in a quartz countertop. I've had it for 12 years and have not had one single stain on it. One time a dish of beets spilled some juice and the stain was there overnight. It came out with a dot of softscrub with bleach with no issue.

Is it a light color?

Since Quartz has become so popular because of it's so called low maintenance, could it be that more companies are trying to jump on the bandwagon and are making an inferior product? Would a US made product be better? Does it matter where the actual quartz comes from or the percentage of quartz to resin? Are Silestone and Caesarstone better brands? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

We’ve had our Cosentino Silestone quartz counters since 2003 (so, 16 YO). It’s multicolor though (different shades of cream/brown, black, white, grey), not white. We’ve had spills and splatters on it (tomato paste sauce, red wine, coffee, chocolate, turmeric, etc) but they haven’t stained the quartz. We’re not careful with our counters. I use my kitchen counters as workshop too (crafts, repairs/creations, painting, sawing, drilling, hammering, gardening, etc. ).

@ Sally - Yes, mine is white with veining - the popular "marble look".

We have MSI Calacatta Leon. Don't mind the tiny kitchen window... we're still in the middle of renovation, replacing that and the nearby 5' hinged patio door with a 10 foot sliding patio door.

But in regards to your question, we don't have staining issues. I feel like you need to take more care of granite and stone than quartz.

Would not see grey marks then. Anything that has metal in it reacts to the hard quartz light service like fine china

I also have cambria quartz because they told us it was maintenance free, life time warranty and very durable. I have chips in my counter top on the surface - no idea how I got them. The warranty does not cover chips, etc. It takes a lot of work to keep the surface clean. I should have gone for granite as that was our first choice. Friends have granite and they have had no issues.

I have a positive update to share. The MSI cleaning instructions state to use Bar Keepers Friend for “tough stains” I had been using the cleanser on the left without success. Today, I reread the instructions and saw it said BKF Powder I purchased the powder cleaner on the right. I used a small amount on a gentle scrubbing sponge, and it literally came right off. I screamed with joy. I then successfully removed all of the black marks from our countertops! Hope this helps someone else.

Careful with the BKF please. If you get overly aggressive, you can alter the factory finish on estone.

MSI recommends it for tough stains on their care guide. I realize it could definitely do damage if left on and not rinsed properly. It did the job in seconds. Have you seen it damage quartz?

Has anybody used a finishing product, wax, sealer, or other on their quartz to protect it? I am wondering with all these issues if something is out there to help protect against the staining and marking.

Tenax Quartz Toner, although I'd shop for a pint. It'd take me a couple years to use that quart.

Never, ever seal your quartz countertops. You will void your manufacture warranty.

We have white quartz counters and I’ve had red wine (sitting for a few hours that I didn’t realize) coffee and raspberries (from my lovely 3 year old) caked on them and it all comes off with mrs Meyers all purpose cleaner or all purpose Lysol and wipe it down. I’ve even had boiling hot turmeric hit the counters and it comes off fine. I’ve been using this kitchen for going on 3 weeks with no issue. If I see it’s dirty I wipe it down. It’s the same maintenance as having wood floors. See water, wipe it down.

The only thing that ever stained my silestone was tumeric, but it came off with soft scrub with bleach

The only issue we have had is black marks from metal. We have spilled coffee (and left spots overnight on accident), tea, and berries. Everything comes right off except the black marks.

Yes, the alloy marks like on fine china when using anything metal. Read all the comments from the beginning of this thread and you will fix your black marks

We are considering purchasiing silestone that is white with gray veining. Quartz doesnt seem as durable as they say now that i have done some research. Anyone with white silestone? Wondering what your experience has been.

Hi there, we had Silestone Miami white installed in our kitchen and silestone white Zeus extreme in the utility room a month ago. I keep them clean and shiny with water and dry soft cloth to buff. I’ve spilt tomato sauce, coffee and curry and wiped it off immediately. It has never stained. I was so worried about the white but it’s been lovely and looks perfect. Maybe it depends on the make you get but I’d say you’ll be fine with Silestone. We’re happy with the choice. Go for it!
