I currently have a pine ceiling with 3 large beams like this and am doing a reno. We are considering painting the ceiling white and leaving the beams a natural wood to match the dark flooring (much like this). I am trying to get a beach feel to the room (we live on the lake). Our kitchen and family room is all one room and our new kitchen will be white with dark quartz counter. Would your colour scheme and fire place be appropriate? Our patio doors and cupboards on fireplace wall would be white to match the kitchen.

This would look great with that! I would paint the wood ceiling white and stain the pine a more gray tone to get a weathered wood feel which is kind of beach-y. It would go with all the colors in this room but be a little more casual. I hope this helps!

Our kitchen and family room is all one room as well. We have cherry cabinets for bookcases on each side of the fireplace & cherry cabinets in the kitchen. I am trying to break away from the dark cabinetry & would love an elegant fireplace. Do you think this would work?? I love this look!!

Yes! I have done this in another house with full cabinets on either side of the fireplace and it looked really nice. I think if the fireplace is light-colored and the cabinets are dark, it's really important that the walls also be a light color.

I don't, but the tile come in 3 sizes - 2x9, 3x16, and 4x24. Each row only has one size tile in it. The tile came from Materials Marketing in San Antonio and is called "Vintage Vein"

My kitchen and counter top are white. The family room is seperate but adjoining. We were considering putting in decorative beams like these. Would you put dark beams or paint them white to continue the theme of the cabinetry in kitchen which is white. I feel as though the fireplace mantle should be the same as the ceiling beams. Our floors are a warm honey hardwood. The window frames are also white in kitchen and family room.
