You could go light or dark, but make sure the choice works very well with the tile floor too.

are you doing the kitchen bit by bit and do you have a long term inspiration idea? the appliances being black and silver I would opt for a darker countertop to tie them in. Unless you plan on replacing them soon.

It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but I think absolute black granite would work well with your cabinets, appliances and floor.

I agree a darker color. I have used a granite called "coffee" from Triton. nice dark background and brown accents. would go nicely with the white cabinets and your floor tile.

Just about any granite could match your cabinets. You need to decide what colors and how much pattern you like in the stone. I love absolute black granite with white cabinets, but it is very hard to keep clean looking. Water spots, streaks, etc. really show. Word of warning about granite: slabs vary a great deal, even with the same name.

I would use black with veins of brown and white running through it. If you plan to change your floor, then go with mostly black with some white veins....I like veins better than stones because they make the granite flow. You probably don't need to buy a whole slab. Ask to see remnants and save yourself some money. Have a template made and actually get down and dirty and choose the exact pieces of granite you want in your kitchen.
