Our design firm prefers to use it in patches rather than as the principal color -- but when it's used well and for the right project, it can't be beat. The first image is of extravagant spa lighting in a residential project -- the dazzling purple was really the cherry on top of resort-style enjoyment. For planting, the second and thrid photos show the concentrated areas of purple in a cooler tone of purple. It may be more restrained but the pollinators love it just the same!

I'm going to have to look for the purple sofa discussion. I have a purple sofa that looks very similar to the one pictured here, but no tufting. I got it from Funky Sofa where they can make anything you want. Next for me is an animal print recliner from them. Anyway, I like all colors and love purple. There is no "bad" color if used properly. My house is in the southwest desert and is a muted shade of purple stucco with muted purple tile roof. It matches the sunset off the canyons. In a previous house, I painted the master bedroom ceiling with Ralph Lauren's metallic purple. There was a copper ceiling fan against it and it was fabulous! My landscape is also full of purple. I don't really understand how anyone could say they "hate" a color. My thoughts on that is that they have never seen it done correctly.

Purple flowers, lollipops, gum okay. Purple houses ? I politely will have to decline. my aunt always wanted purple house. I was like 10 years old at the time and she was 12 when she mentioned that. And i thought, Really ???

As an accent color, purple is superb as towels in a white-on-white bathroom or standing tall in the garden outside.

Love it! It is a romantic color and can be used in a vibrant hue, pastel lilac or subdued to a taupe.

The purple velvet creates great contrast with the white rug.

Love the deep shades ... indigo, eggplant. The lighter and brighter ones, not so much, though I make an exception for that brilliant door posted by Renovations by Aaron Sherwood. Wow!

I would choose purple only for a dress or nail polish. Would love purple flowers in my garden too but wouldn't want to have it inside my house.

This colour reminds me of older ladies who colour their hair and wear bright clothing; it's just called menopausal purple to me.

Hmmm... Sorry all, but I think purple is a great colour! You can call me a purple freak, but I have it all over the house, even on the outside (front door, window frames, pergola and gravel!). And Curt, my birthday balloons were purple too. I just don't understand how people can not like this colour.

Walked thru a display house that was 2200 sq ft of eggplant purple! Flooring, wall paper, paint, upholstery etc. By the time I go through touring the house I was nauseous!! Nope!!

I do like purple in nature, but purple in home decor is very unsettling and garish to me.

I have purple accents in every room; towels, main colour in quilt, throw pillows ( purple & red), files in office. I have to say never in a million years did I think I would decorate with purple and red. It just sort of happened....

Purple is one of those colors that elicits a strong response, most of us either hate it or can't get enough, there doesn't seem to be much middle ground.

I am on a fence about purple -- literally -- (1) love it in the garden with my dark blue shutters and lime green evergreens next to a red brick house with white trim -- purple pulls it all together -- and I keep buying purple plants -- like yesterday - hydrangeas. And (2) my late aunt's favorite color was purple -- I have been sending purple everything to her for years. And (3) I wear purple well, but not everyone does, so in my home I prefer blue, not purple, because like people to feel comfortable and at ease -- and not have to sit in a chair or next to a drape that they know does not flatter their coloring. Loved Pantone Purple at first, but am already looking forward to next year's color and it's not even July 4th. Perhaps I don't like purple because I live in a "purple" state -- Virginia. Olive green, anyone? Military khaki olive green? Or on the yellow side??

We think purple can work - as can just about any color, actually - in the right place, in the right amount, with the right accent colors.

I love color + use purple as an accent to pop neutrals. Might even do a "purple room " for a pre teen ... knowing that she'll want to change it in several years! QUADRILLE + MANUEL CANOVAS in particular offer good purple patterns. Solid linens + silks look good too. I love purple in the garden used as "collective clumps" i.e. Pansies for Spring, Petunias for Summer and iris, Honeywort,Salvia, Aster, "Bellflower Dalmation" and Delphinium.

I find certain shades of purple to be gorgeous, especially when combined with sage or olive hues and creamy vanilla trim (indoors or out). I usually lean toward purples that are muted. Ah, but I just have to say that the vibrant purple door that Renovations by AaronSherwood posted is absolutely divine and would be a color I would love to have as an accent or focal point in a flower garden or on a porch, patio, or deck.

My Greenwich clients loves the warmth + luxury of HICKORY CHAIR'S purple velvet wing chairs. MANUEL CANOVAS' purple spices up their Raj toile in Living Room pillows. I planted purple colchicums to light up my Fall garden. Purple passion!

Small amounts because it's so strong. The odd vase or a picture with bits of purple in it is nice.

It's a love/hate relationship for me. For myself, I get tired of it fast, but if a client loves it, I love some of the combos. Especially with gray, all different shades and saturations look nice with gray. Definitely, in a more contemporary setting for sure.

Love purple as clothing...not big on "purple furniture". It is a colour that quickly becomes an eye sore (literally...my eyes start to lose focus and my vision vibrates = migraine) if I look at something like some of the intense colours/pieces shown above, I would have to leave within an hour of entering a space.

My Master bath is a pale lavender & I love it! Our Master bedroom which is located off that bathroom is relaxing sage green & those two colors compliment very well. Our Entry way/foyer is also a shade of Lavender. I've gotten a ton of compliments on it from family & friends. {P.S. I'm pretty sure Prince would have liked it.......R.I.P. Prince Rodgers Nelson.}

I like it as accents in small doses, as in my family room.

In the right instances, purple can be amazing. It's one of those colors you have to be smart about using though. In this poll's picture, those purple chairs look awesome! It can be great in a movie room, lounge, bedroom, or wet bar to create some dramatic effect.

I have notice that purple seems to be a colour with which both females and males ( married) are comfortable. I have seen purple sofa set in married couples living rooms, on tv settings for a show, but I think a large majority of bachelors might not go for that colour if buying alone , the ladies probably would,
I personally love the colour but not so much that it will dominate a room, otherwise, it demands, a careful consideration of other furnishing to match it.
