I would move the changing table to bare wall. Looks funny having the two pieces so close together. Hang collage (which is beautiful) above the changing table. How about a big tree decal behind your crib? Or how about her name or monogram or initial? I love personalizing the room.

What about that Target rug, in green? A nice apple colour would look great with the chocolate brown. Pair it with plain cream coloured curtains -- you already have enough colours in the toys and enough pattern in the rug.

Have you tried moving the crib over by the window, and then using the change table and the dresser on the two walls where the crib is currently? Yes, some decals above the crib would be nice. Have fun making the room special for your daughter.

Two items to consider for bedtime-- a nightlight (provided it's not too bright) and a music box (or a combination of both). A comfy chair or rocker might also be nice. Sweet dreams to all!

Not so decorative but those "busy box" or "fish tank"toys that attach to the crib will entertain toddlers. Watching play fish can sooth them to sleep. Our oldest would wake up and play with the busy box instead wail for mom. The next two were not as easily amused and went straight to toddler beds or trundles around two. We'd made a big deal about their choosing sheets like their little mermaid and princess Jasmine pillowcases. You can pick rugs, curtains etc. to go with their favorite characters and be neutral enough to grow up with the child.

First of all put a almost 2 year old in a twin bed. With really cute bedding let her go and help pick out. That way she will be involved in the move to her own room. You can start by moving her playpen she now sleeps in to that room. Then change out to the big girl bed. Add white dresser small furn like a table and chairs. Add her toys and cute pictures on walls is there something she loves? Again letting her be part of it will encourage her to be a big girl in her own bed. A crib is for a baby.

Love your paint too! May I suggest accents of soft pink among the milk chocolate tones. Give her a Neopolitan ice cream room:
Brown patterned rug, her name on the wall, frame a light pink frilly dress that she has outgrown or buy one & dress a big teddybear. Entice her- to go to her room

Letting her be a part of the process will encourage her to move into her own room. It is a little difficult to see the dimensions of the room. Painting in colors she likes (even though you may not) and adding special things that again interest her. If she has books she loves ask her to pick out what she would like in her room (paint, décor, etc.) and let her be a part of the makeover.

We always kept our room cozy, but very simple as I believed that the bedroom was for sleeping/ resting (I am also fortunate enough to have another room for toys and play, which not everyone has the space for, so is completely your choice of course)
I agree with jimandjoy...she is 22months and can help in all sorts of ways - that is going to make her transition easier, more so than the theme you choose, I promise! If you would rather not let her decided EVERY element, I have seen some fun art projects on Pinterest and other sites that might be of interest to you - you could do a couple of projects together;
- Wall hangings made with her hand + footprints (turning them into animals) + frame them
- A bunch of buttons or glass beads glued onto canvas in the shape of her first initial (you outline the letter + she can fill it in with some help)
- cheap and cheerful mirrors from Ikea are great as they really start to love watching themselves make faces, show emotions, learn body parts, dressing themselves, etc...
- I made a wall hanging by painting some canvases + decoupaging letter for his name and 2 of his very first baby pics (see attached). THEN I put the left over decoupage paper in a simple white frame on the opposite wall - so the colours and patterns were identical, the paper wasn't wasted (a sheet was $3 but then I only used a tiny bit on the name plate), and it was super cheap (Ikea frame $8 + paper)...
- Ikea has great storage bin options for the change table too - measure your table and you can search on their website without having to go all the way to the store if you want
- lastly, a nice cozy chair for the area by the window might be great - and you can get some small shelves (either for floor or the wall) to put books in and start her library...storytime each night is a great way to wind down and share time in her special space

I saw a cute and simple idea: various fonts of the alphabet, cut out in wood, were placed on a high plate rail (just a simple square ledge). They were painted in a variety of colors that complemented the room's color scheme. You could do the same with animal shapes. It gives interest to the top part of the room without taking up floor or other decorative space.

I like the cream target rug--leaves all color options open for the future. Also a pretty patterned curtain will add some detail, softness and a focal point to the windows. Usually beds are placed opposite the entrance to the room.

She's nearly two. It's going to be time soon for a "big girl room." I agree with the comment above about a twin bed. I would work towards creating her new room, the one she'll have for eight to ten years at which point it will need redecorating for a teenager.

Room seems tad dark with the beautiful dark flooring. Maureen above shared some really really good inexpensive ideas to brighten the room and make it fun. The idea is get your daughter to dearly love love 'her room' then very soon go to a real 'big girl bed' which will last her years. And yes quickly get her in her own room. Have Fun!

When my children were transitioning from a crib to a twin bed, I started by putting the mattress on the floor. That way, if they fell out of bed in the middle of the night, it wasn't far enough to hurt them or even wake them up very much. Once they learned where the edges of the bed were and could stay "in", then I put the mattress on the bed frame.

When my daughter moved to her own room, I gave her a choice of wallpaper borders and let her make the final selection. My children also got to pick out their own sheet sets.

So glad to get your response to my comment. It's wonderful that you are an exception to the norm.

I like the green rug of the ones you posted with your wall color.

The teacher in me must chime in with some advice. In the next two years your child will be focusing on pre school skills; so pull some decor ideas out of those ideas. Get some big 3 d letters and numbers from michaels---made of brown papier-mâché like material, she can help you "paint" them different colors and spell her name. Put her name over her big girl bed. Put numbers on a higher shelf and take them down when you work on number and counting skills.

Sight words and pictures, starting with her name, colors, shapes, pets, jungle or zoo animals, and counting 1- 20, these will be her world of discovery. You need some sorting baskets to put all these things in categories and for storage. The categories can change over time but you can start with toys she has: animals, shape blocks, letters, etc. put a picture on the basket of what goes in it. Then help her "sort" her toys. You'll be building receptive vocabulary, sight words, counting skills and building her ownership of her things and her room.

As far as sleeping in her room, I agree with others who suggested that you transition her to a youth or twin bed. She has negative associations to the crib, so a change is not only inevitable but may be easier to accomplish. Spending time in the room doing learning activities will connect positive attitudes to the space. Having large baskets for toys and such makes it easy to move them out when it's time for bed.

Most importantly just enjoy this project and time in your life because she will grow up so fast---store all these happy moments and memories up while you can.

i suggest that you sand her crib and change it to another colour.
