Hi there, these were designed/built by our team. A light wood that's porous and takes stain well is White Oak. To achieve this finish the following steps were taken:

- Soak steel wool in vinegar overnight
- Brush/rub vinegar onto wood and wipe off with a rag. Repeat until grain of wood is as "dark" as you like (The vinegar brings out the black in the wood grain.) Let wood dry completely before next step.
- Then use a grey stain on all of the boards to stain the lighter parts of the wood. Let dry before next step.
- Use clear varnish to finish
