How to make this look better

I need ideas on how to make this look better. My style is transitional. I like the placement of the TV and fireplace but don't know where to start. Help?

    I agree with the other posters so far. A chunky mantel, perhaps framing the fireplace with travertine, marble, or granite, depending on your preference. You could also use stacked stone on the entire wall, with a mantel - but that might be too much, as I'm not sure of the dimensions of the wall. Hide the TV wires and perhaps lower the TV just a few inches. I love the pictures that Anne and David posted. Very cool ideas.
