Dining room decorating help

I need colour in this room and also some ideas as to how to decorate the table and side board. The large wall on the right leads to the basement but could also use something to spruce it up. It is visible from the kitchen and dining room. Ideas?

If it is so visible from the other two rooms, it needs to fit in with them. Comment here and use the Attach Images button to add more pix of this and the other two spaces.

It's a new house so I'm just starting to decorate. There will be a khaki sectional in the living room I the house to feel modern yet comfortable and casual feel. Blinds in the living room with be bamboo and I have off white blinds with a burn out modern floral patter on the 4 panel dining room windows. Also wondering if I should have drapes on the ends of the windows to soften the windows and blinds

I'm not too crazy about the rug and think in might work better in the other space. The chandelier looks too "outdoorsy" to me and is much to rigid and rectangular for the curved chairs and round mirror. I'm guessing that your stair railing and the mantel are somewhat matched. With all the white trim and kitchen cabinetry, I'd consider painting the wood of the railing white like the other woodwork, or black like the island since it contradicts your table/buffet finishes and the other woodwork. I don't think you need curtain panels in the dining room - the shades look to be sufficient and add interest. In the other space you could add them if you want. Try big colorful art and a pair of matched credenzas flanking the FP. Have you considered painting the dining set and buffet? What is your accent color in this space?

You could also warm up the space by adding something like what they've added above the nightstand s in this this image to each side of the mirror. I've also attached another gallery wall idea for the staircase that's more symmetrical.

These are great! Thank you, WD. Would you put something under them on the table or side board such as a runner or mat, or just on their own?

A water wall would look great on that wall leading to the basement.

A pale grey-green color on the wall (think clay) would be warm and attractive with what you already have in the space.

A waterwall would be incredible! I never thought of that option

Lori, your idea for a photo gallery and your other suggestions are good too. Thanks

Since you love earthy colors, add a deep rust color on the end wall.(mirror Wall)
Benjamin Moore, Warm Sienna 1203, would add warmth. Window treatments with a golden glow would support your earthy feel as well and still work with your black and white theme. You need art on the walls. Filling a large wall with a hand-made art quilt is both economical and sound aborbing. A larger rug that covers the floor with the chairs pulled out would give you the opportunity to add some color too.

I would suggest you get another round mirror that matches this one and then display one mirror far enough to the left and the other far enough to the right so that the light fixture does not block either one. I also would suggest a mural or collection of framed pictures for the wall above the basement stairs. It you could have some sort of ceiling trim or beam above the rail, it would help set off the dining room space and would make your chandelier look centered.
