Firstly, the room is obviously long and narrow, so your dining room table really wouldn't fit any other way but the way it is currently in there now, so status quo. However the room could definitely use some changes & some pops of color. I noticed you already took the highboy out of the room & put the buffet, lamps, & artwork in its place.

1. I would recommend changing your area rug for one with more color, see samples below for ideas.

2. I would recommend a more colorful centerpiece for the table, not necessarily flowers in a vase. Perhaps 2 large, more colorful vases, empty . .

3. I would recommend changing the overhead lighting to a large, more updated, classic pendant, ideas below.

4. Replace the darker curtains with lighter patterned wall panels, 2 on each window, & use nice tassels to hold them back on each side of window. Ideas below.

5. Place some classic unframed artwork on the short wall with 1 window, and elsewhere in the room, over the buffet etc. see ideas below

6. Add one or two 6 foot trees in the corners of the room for some greenery, ideas below.

I'm feeling like the room needs some color. I'm planning on having two more curtain panels made. I think that will help. I just replaced the light fixture so it has to stay.
Do you like the buffet on that wall with a mirror over it? Or under the peacock?

I also just purchased all of the art work so I would like to work with it. I would be willing to replace the cases though.

Is this painted buffet too casual for this room?

I'd move the buffet out and move china cabinet to its place. The art above the chairs on either side the doorway are too large and hung too low. They should be 6" above the chairs. Ideally get something smaller...maybe 2 round mirrors about 18 - 20" in diameter.

Rainy morning whenever I remove the buffet or the chairs I can't help to feel like the room is so bare.
