Rug atop Terra Cotta Tile Floor

Just bought house with large terra cotta family room floor. Not sure what kind of rug to put over...oriental vs modern? will pattern be too much? Advice???

    Depends on your personal style - but as you can see here, a traditional oriental carpet works quite well in this modern space.

    Yes it does work well. At first I was hesitant about the pattern with the tiles, but now I will try some traditional oriental rugs as well as patterned modern rugs. I love the color of the rug in the photo...

    Be mindful of the other fabrics in the room. The rug works in this library because it is not competing with any other patterns. It you have strong patterns elsewhere in the space, you might try a rug with an interesting texture, instead of a pattern. Sisal and Flat Woven rugs will fit well with the terra cotta as well, with its earthy feel.
